Object: Women told 'drink less' to avoid rape
This Police Chief will no doubt come under a barrage of criticism for
speaking the truth. When women treat themselves with more respect, men show
them more respect. A little decency goes a long way.

A POLICE chief sparks controversy today by suggesting the number of rapes in
Scotland could be substantially reduced if women drank less.
Neil Richardson, assistant chief constable of Lothian and Borders Police,
bases his claim on new research which identified victims' alcohol
consumption as significant in a third of attacks.
The senior officer said "a lot" of the 1,100 rapes a year could be prevented
"by people not allowing themselves to be in a vulnerable position".
Richardson - who stressed he was not blaming women - spoke out after a study
of more than 120 rapes revealed alcohol intake was a major factor in 40
cases.
Detectives concluded that the women were more likely to be targeted in the
first place and less able to prevent the attack.
Even though 13 of the 124 women claimed their drinks had been spiked with
"date rape drugs" the research found no evidence of any such substances
having been used.
Richardson said: "In many cases the women reported being victims of date
rape drugs but analysis shows it was far more likely they have just fallen
victim to alcohol."
He added: "We know that drink reduces inhibitions and we take more chances,
therefore we can make an assumption about the vulnerability that goes with
that.
"I do think a lot of these attacks could be prevented by people not allowing
themselves to be in a vulnerable position.

The number of rapes would also be less if women were forced to wear
burkas and stay out of the public view. But like most misogynists you
like to blame the victim for your own inability to control yourself.

When women treat themselves with more respect,

When they do as you say, in other words.

I'm wondering what statistics this police chief was looking at.
Something made him think that alcohol was a contributing
factor to too many rapes, for some value of "too many".
I don't think there's anything wrong with reminding people that
there are predators out there, and they should use some common
sense and think about what they can do to reduce the danger
they expose themselves to. If your daughter is going out with
some friends, are you telling me that there's no "use your head"
advice of yours you'd want her to remember?

I can't fathom why Jerkoff Young would criticize that cop.

That's like telling a woman that she can avoid getting raped if she closes
her legs.
What do you think burglars do, check the door then leave if it's locked? Of
course not. That's why it's called _breaking_ and entering.

Regardless of how vulnerable a woman makes herself, whether intentional or

Yes.
I think my point was that advice telling women to drink less to avoid
rape is more on the level of telling people to lock up their possessions
to avoid having them stolen, than telling them to have less possessions.
It is not really new either, there was a big campaign last summer for
people going on holiday, warning women especially not to get drunk and
go back to their apartment alone.
Of course, it is a little more complex. It is generally accepted that
if you don't take care of your possessions you risk losing them and I
feel many people would say you share much of the responsibility for
that; only women haters like Young would say the same about rape.
Young's twisted reading of things is as always, deeply disturbed

You are truly stupid Adam.
While I don't necessarily agree completely with what the Police Chief
is saying, he is correct in saying that when women treat themselves
with more respect, men show them more respect.
I doubt that women drinking less will lead to any significant reduction
in rape; however, it's true that when we do drink we act in ways that
we normally might not act when we have a clear mind. Rape is wrong,
regardless of any aggrevating circumstances. When a woman says no, she
means no and a man should respect that. Alcohol consumption does lead
to irresponsible behavior. A woman may place herself in a situation
where rape could happen, or she may act in a manner in which a man or
men might take her actions into meaning she wants sex. And she may
very well be acceptable under the influence.
But for you to compare a wealthy person having money to women and/or
men consuming alcohol and acting irresponsible only shows your own
ignorance and stupidity. The two are not even related.

And that whole screed from you only emphasizes your inability to read
for any nuance whatsoever.

I can't even say that this tendency was revealed - you're just not
smart enough to have hidden your lack for this long.

You really are full of hate and you just can't handle the fact that you
are not always right.

Well, if my post annoyed you that's fine. It was intended to show you
your fallacy, but if you are not open minded enough to understand that
and choose to be annoyed, very well.

I've been gone quite awhile. I had this fantasy that Osprey might have
learned his lesson. (And that there would be peace in the world.)
Still hope for peace, I suppose.

You fantasized about "Osprey" while you were gone? Talk about obsession.
