I'll thank you not to thank liberties with my name, Goeff. I'd hate to
think you were showing a lack of respect that would contribute to the
degeneration of this discussion into a mud-slinging event.
I was simply referring to those who chose not to study the arguments
offered by the religions that promote the concept of monotheism, rather
than assume the atheist argument simply on the ground that it suits
their own intuition.

That'd be because the blissful ignorance you mention is not a hallmark of
atheism (please note the correct spelling). Ignorance is a symptom of
religion, my friend. And common sense is actually not common at all. Is it
common sense to believe in a supernatural something whose attributes are
self-contraditory, and whose actions can be explained naturalistically? Is
it common sense to live life according to a collection of scribblings and
rants, written by bronze age nomads, much of the contents of which have been
shown false? Is it common sense to worship somebody who has the power to
significantly alleviate, if not end, the pain and suffering of innocent
people, yet does not do so? Is it common sense to look at the mountains of
evidence for evolution, and then say that some god placed it all there to
test our faith?
Ignorance may be bliss, friend; but knowledge is freedom.

You can't prove a negative. You do
know this, right? Asking someone to prove a negative assertion in order to
disprove a positive one is a grade school mistake. Here's why:
Me: Can you prove you didn't beat your wife?
You: What?
Me: Can you prove it?
You: But I don't beat my wife. I've never beaten my wife.
Me: But you can't prove it, can you?
You: Well, no, I guess not. I mean, she's not even here.
Me: WIFE BEATER! YOU ARE A WIFE BEATER!
----
See why it doesn't make sense? You guys, Christians (I'm assuming you're a
Christian) claim there's a supernatural being out there. It's up to you to
prove he's real, not up to me to disprove it. I could claim I can levitate,
right? But the proof would be if I demonstrated that I could. A demand for
you to disprove that I could levitate would be futile.
Hope this helps.

Quoting from works of fiction doesn't help prove your point, does it?

I am not trying to "proove" anything: we are talking about the matters of
BELIEF, you moron.
But the quotation from Shakespeare put things in perspective (of course, for
those who are capable of seeing things in perspective...)

You DO know how to remove a group from a reply before you post it,
right? Remove alt.atheism, and you won't be trolling in an atheist
newsgroup.

To be fair, this is another stunt by Abeles who claims to be atheist. I
know most of the time theists start the xposting fests but not this time.
In *fact, most of the times I've seen spats between alt.atheism and a
Jewish newsgroup, Abeles is not far away...
