Object: Wonderful world of atheism
The freedom to enjoy fine cuisine without the restrictions of religious
dietary laws.
The freedom to enjoy the company and touch of the opposite sex without the
restrictions of religious laws.
The freedom to marry the person you love without the restrictions of
religious bigotry.

Since there has NEVER been any credible evidence that any messages
have ever been received from any gods, where does that leave you?

perhaps nothing you'd consider credible, but then, discrimination
generally not the calling card of the intellectual sophisticates.

| That'd be because the blissful ignorance you mention is not a hallmark of
| atheism (please note the correct spelling). Ignorance is a symptom of
| religion, my friend. And common sense is actually not common at all. Is
it
| common sense to believe in a supernatural something whose attributes are
| self-contraditory, and whose actions can be explained naturalistically?
Is
| it common sense to live life according to a collection of scribblings and
| rants, written by bronze age nomads, much of the contents of which have
been
| shown false? Is it common sense to worship somebody who has the power to
| significantly alleviate, if not end, the pain and suffering of innocent
| people, yet does not do so? Is it common sense to look at the mountains
of
| evidence for evolution, and then say that some god placed it all there to
| test our faith?
|
| Ignorance may be bliss, friend; but knowledge is freedom.

Formal logic is incapable of either proving or disproving existence of G-d.

Wrong! If the god in question is internally inconsistent, formal logic

Not at all. Looks like a snippage problem.

Get over it, oh arrogant one.

That's tantamount to saying that one of the advantages of not
seeing any police around is that you can commit crimes to your
heart's content.

Tell me, is the ONLY thing that stops you from commiting crimes the
idea that the big guy upstairs will see you and punish you in the
afterlife?

Or because it's against the Golden Rule.

Sure - if YOU say so...

*I* don't say so - LOGIC says so.

Wouldn't logic say that there *probably* is no G-d, rather than insist on

After all, just because you can't prove something exists doesn't mean that
it *can't* exist - right?

You're correct. Pure mathematical logic leads one to the stance of
agnosticism. Furthermore, a certain amount of thought will reveal that
almost anything that can be conceived is POSSIBLE--but this does not
mean it EXISTS. For example, the natural laws of our universe could be
different from what they are--heck, they could change at 2:05PM next
Tuesday and there would be nothing we could do about it.
Personally, I'm a physicist, and unlike mathematicians and logicians,
we physicists are a practical lot. We tend to simplify propositions,
go for the testable hypothesis, and do a lot of rounding and
approximating in our equations. When something is so unlikely or so
incredibly faint that we can't detect any effect, we tend to ignore
the whole thing until further notice.
