The freedom to enjoy fine cuisine without the restrictions of religious

The freedom to enjoy the company and touch of the opposite sex without the

Or same sex! Jews may have Shomer N'Gai; Catholics have their idiot
inhuman instructions for homosexuals. Homosexuals are instructed to
avoid friendships or serious interaction with members of the same sex.
Nice, huh?

I believe it's the instructions from the American Catholic bishops to
the parish priests. It's their teaching, which holds weight of church
law (not totally the same as Jewish law, in the sense that Catholic
lay people tend to ignore anything that isn't a sin*, and there are
two grades of sin anyway), but I don't think it comes directly from
the pope, so it isn't an infalliable teaching. (The sort that isn't
supposed to change, ever, but often does anyway over the centuries :)
*-or what they think is a sin
The current pope has let his goon Cardinal Ratzinger do all the
railing against homosexuals, which included the infamous "Halloween"
letter in the mid-1980's which defined homosexuality as "objectively
disordered" (a strange term even church scholars can't quite puzzle
out, but it has something to do with natural law, which seems to the
metaphysical touchstone of Catholicism--so-called "a priori" platonic
thinking, which somehow eventually comes around to accepting the
conclusions of real science ... centuries later ... a priori of course
.... nope, no a posteriori conclusions here ... move along ...).
Erm, anyway, included the Halloween letter and continues to this day.
Yeah, um, pope, not particularly compassionate on this issue, not
terribly bigoted either. He has some sort of soft spot for any victim
of Nazis and he's apparently het, one of those Mary-obsessed priests.
However, quite a few of the powerful bishops in the Church do have
something to hide, which is why you see extreme, virulent homophobia
issuing forth from Rome.
