Lawmaker's son arrested on child molestation charges

The son of an influential Augusta lawmaker is in the Richmond County jail
on child molestation charges.
William Wesley Burmeister, 23, of Clayton County, was arrested on
aggravated child molestation charges Wednesday afternoon, Richmond County
sheriff's office Maj. Ken Autry said.
Burmeister is the oldest of four children of state Rep. Sue Burmeister
(R-Augusta). Sue Burmeister has carried some of the Republican party's most
important legislation - including House Bill 188, which would require
publishing the photographs of convicted sex offenders in local newspapers.
Burmeister is secretary of the majority Republican caucus in the House.
