the final judge of us will not forget, you can't starve your pet, but
you can Teri, this is insane.

Cruel to whom? 90% of her brain is liquid. How can the termination of
her life be cruel when she lacks the brain mass with which to suffer?
I mean, do you even realize what her condition is?!
Her body may be there, but she's not. What remains is a living corpse;
a living mass of doner organs that have to be artificially fed by a
machine in order to survive.
This may be hard to accept for a lot of religions conservatives, but
Terri Schiavo, the person, is ALREADY dead.

means of ending our own lives when that becomes the
least bad alternative.

We're not interested in your histrionics. You spend 8 years trying in
vain to get your wife to give a single indication that she exists
mentally. Then you can come back here and tell us all about what's right

What's insane is that terri is long gone and never comming back and
these Ghouls want to keep her mindless, souless, empty body around like
a trophy. It's sick.
They should be happy with photos and memories.
Let the poor guy burry his wife and get on with his life.
The really bizare thing is that the exact same people that want to keep
this womans body hanging around after her spirit is fled are the ones
that tell us that we are more than our bodies.
The EXACT same people.
What if I could chop of your arm and then keep it alive?
You are dead cremated dust - but I have your arm hooked up to a machine
that circulates oxygenated blood through it and I can keep it alive for
years.
Would it be "murder of the cruelest kind" to let your arm die?
Are you your left arm?
Are you your left arm plus your torso?
Are you your left arm, torso and one leg?
If I was keeping an arm, a torso and a leg alive in a hospital bed
would it be "murder" to cease keeping it alive?
A person is their mind - their memories, their emotions, their hopes
and dreams and thoughts.
Without these things we are just a piece of meat.
She is dead - all that you are keeping alive is the body that she once
inhabited.
She is gone. Treat her body with respect out of respect for the person
that once lived in that body.
Give it a decent burrial/cremation.

You obviously don't understand life or humanity.

The "soulless" part is debatable, I suppose (though I personally do not
accept the existence of "souls".)
The "mindless" part is simple fact. The human mind resides above all in
the neocortex, and to a lesser extent in the more "primitive" parts of the
cerebral cortex.
Teri Schiavo doesn't have a cortex anymore.

This is what the worship of Science has brought us -- regard a human
being, weigh his or her brain in a pan, decide if there is enough to save.
Why, if the victim doesn't have the pain part of their brain working
then killing them doesn't really matter - or to put it more properly,
the unthinkable becomes 'debatable.'
You've managed to identify parts, but fail to see the whole. We've used
our microscopes to identify and map every cell in our bodies and lost
our souls in the process.
I'm left thinking.. what next?
What horrors are next?

Gotta love the capitalization of Science.

Exactly! Why are we being told that Terri is a veggie and she doesn't know
anything that's going on around her or in her own mind...and at the same
time we're told that starving her won't cause her any pain or discomfort?
If she doesn't know anything, what's the difference?

The fact that you see a contradiction here is quite telling. If she
cannot feel pain it's because she isn't aware of anything that's going
on (pain would count as something "that's going on")
Awareness of pain requires at least some awareness of one's surroundings.

If she doesn't know anything, what's the difference?

You tell me, I'm not the one arguing that removing her feeding tube is
cruel and inhumane.

Well, even if he *is* an "old-school" Republican (which, in my opinion,
is the best kind of Republican), shooting or poisoning a dog is NOT a
good thing to do, no matter how "humane" it supposably is.

Even seen a sick, poor, and pitiful dog? It is not a pretty sight.

Before my dog got out of the gate and got ran over by a car, he was a
old sick dog. I'm sure he much rather be alive than dead. You know
how I know he was happy. He wagged his tail all the damn time, even
though he didn't have as much energy as he did when he was younger
didn't mean he would rather be dead.

OK, maybe he *was* wagging his tail all the time, and maybe he *did*
appear happy in every way...but surely he must have been suffering. Who
are you to try to understand what he's feeling? I mean, think about the
cost of food you're throwing away on him, when he is just going to die
someday anyway.
In case anywon can't tell, the above statement was intended as irony.
Peace, I'm out. GO REDS!!1

Pull the head off a fundy and it will bleat for about ten minutes.

You let an old, sick dog suffer by keeping him alive? Kinda inhumane,
no?

Yeah I'm pretty sure if my dog was really sick, he rather wait it out
