You Reap what you Sow |
Our local Xtian fundie radio station is having a pledge drive. Their
pitch is, "the more you give, the greater God will reward you." It really
makes me sick. I think that churches should be required to get by on the
money they get from solid gold meteorites falling out of the sky and
landing in their back yard. That would be a fair test of how much God
loves them.

So call 'em up and pledge a thousand dollars out of the reward that
you'll inevitably be receiving.

Ha Ha. You're talking about a group that can rationalize the existence of
a benevolent God as evidenced by a) the presence of good in the world, and
b) the presence of evil in the world. I'm SURE they could come up with a
dodge for such a pledge as that.

How about sending 'em a check for a million dollars with a letter saying
that if it doesn't clear, it's because they don't have enough faith :)

There's a TV commercial that's usually on around Xmas time for a local church
with the priest asking for money and basically saying the same thing - something
along the lines of "If you help us, god will help you". My husband always goes
ballistic whenever he sees it ;p

You'd think God would be able to avoid the middleman.

Yup, trade in your charitable contributions for valuable prizes in the
afterlife.
Oops, that means your charitable contributions weren't charitable, they were
payment for services rendered in the afterlife.
Christians can never perform charitable or selfless acts since they believe
all such deeds are eventually rewarded in the afterlife, rendering the acts
NOT charitable OR selfless.
Only those who expect no reward can be said to perform charitable or
selfless acts.

During the holidays, my local God channel runs pledge pleas almost
constantly, with a little ticker running across the bottom of the
picture displaying mottoes like "Plant a seed" and "Share the
blessing." The ticker line sits right below the Visa/MasterCard logos,
which never seem to disappear from the screen.
Hmm...
"So if you're going to heaven, remember to bring your Visa. Because
though Jesus may take your sins away, he doesn't take American Express."

I am pretty sure that Pat Robertson's god takes American Express.
Unfortunately, you'll have to get your reward points in the afterlife.

You'd better not turn on TBN during Pledge-A-Thon week, then. They go on
for hours about how giving money to them is the best investment around.
