The external entity is called FATE aka CHANCE aka RANDOM *****. The
ancient Greeks understood this point (never mind their silly
polytheistic myths and the butt-fucking). The highest power is FATE, a
power so great even Zeus fears it. The fact that fate can be so
fucking unfair is the psychological motivation for people to believe in
some kind of religion. All religions do that (except for rare
aberrations). Theists have a God or Gods who will dispense justice and
correct all unfair happenings in the world. Hindus and Buddhists have
karma and reincarnation; if my neighbor has suffered unfairly he will
have better luck in his next life. Same theme --- things will be made
right in the long run. It's a nice comforting thought, but where is
the evidence?
If you believe in a higher power you are right. A higher power does
exist (fate), but it is not your foolish conception of a personal God.
