Hiding behavior is very common with spiritually sick people and
addicts. Anytime I feel ashamed or feel the need to hide things from my
family or others it is a signpost to me that I am heading in the wrong
direction.
You're hiding your name from us, so I guess you're heading in the wrong
direction?
Once I got to work with spiritual recovery with the 12
steps and started to balance my life up and repair the wreckage of the
past things got better for me. I would hide my finances, debts, drugs
and anything else I felt ashamed of from them. I had to restructure my
life and make it transparent to my family and others. If you have any
questions about addiction recovery feel free to ask.
Why ask you if you're heading in the wrong direction?

Yes, Neil you are correct, I hide my name.
I hide not from shame, but for security and fear of injury.
Many years ago I was threatened by an unbalanced forum member and had
to stop using my name. I adopted the first letter 'V' of my email
address. I wish one was able to go about the business of life without
such precautions, but unfortunately life is not always as we wish.
Do you think I have been less than candid with the group just because I
use a letter for a name? Lots of hatred at this group for me. What
would I achieve from using my name? At Internet Infidels I received a
virus from someone there as well as getting the boot? Lots of sick
people in the world that try to destroy others.
What about principles before personalties? Then we are free to
concentrate on 'what' is written instead of 'who' writes what. Or do
you discount that since it is a saying from 12 step groups?

Yes, they can. Unfortunately, enforcement of Usenet's rules and
conventions is uneven but enough complaints from different members of an
ng will often prod an abuse department into some kind of action.
The reason there's two is he's using Google as his Usenet provider but AOL
as his ISP.

Ah, okay. Useful information! >:|
A lot of ISPs are dumping Usenet access which is why we're seeing more
Google access. But either way, your ISP doesn't have to be your Usenet
provider. In fact, if you're a heavy Usenet user, it's not a bad idea to
have a separate Usenet provider. Things stay the same even if you change
ISPs for whatever reasons.
And it's usually cheap. Unless you do a lot of binaries that is. Text only
Usenet (which is about all I do) doesn't take all that much bandwidth. I
have a 2 gigabyte per month limit with Giganews and never exceed it much
as I post.
My current ISP has a Usenet server but I found it to be badly synced and
sluggish. It's bad enough I'm (currently) stuck on a modem. Add in a
crappy Usenet server and... BLEAH...

I do hide BECAUSE there are psychotic assholes out there.

V:

So by your own words, you either hide from shame (not the case here, so
you claim...I'm not so sure), or YOU HIDE THINGS FROM OTHERS, WHICH IS
A SIGNPOST YOU ARE HEADING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. Clearly you are
hiding things from others, so you should conclude that you are heading
in the wrong direction. Generally, if strangers want to harm you it's
because you're an *****. It says something about them, too, but it
also says something about you. Personally, I know you haven't got a
thing to fear from any of the atheists in here. Well, maybe you might
not want to ***** off Douglas Berry in person. I don't really care if
you use your name or not but I am pointing out that you're being
hypocritical in lording over anybody about your moral superiority.
You're no better, and no worse, than the rest of us.
Many years ago I was threatened by an unbalanced forum member and had
to stop using my name. I adopted the first letter 'V' of my email
address. I wish one was able to go about the business of life without
such precautions, but unfortunately life is not always as we wish.
You're avoiding the point. You're hiding something from others.
Do you think I have been less than candid with the group just because I
use a letter for a name?
Yes, as a matter of fact. I think you're not candid with yourself at
all.
Lots of hatred at this group for me. What
would I achieve from using my name?
You would conquer your fears, for one.
At Internet Infidels I received a
virus from someone there as well as getting the boot? Lots of sick
people in the world that try to destroy others.
We're ATHEISTS. Do you know what that means? We would be put to death
in a lot of places. And in a recent poll in your country, atheists
ranked lower than pedophiles (have I got that right? it was somebody
bad) in terms of public hatred. And we use our names, for the most
part. We're braver than you are, have some respect. Like I said, I
don't care if you use your name, but you're a hypocrite if you don't
and you continue to say things like you did to Robyn. You don't know
her, you have no idea if she is "spiritually sick." And if you spent
time listening to her instead of just assuming things about her, you'd
realize she's a fully functioning and quite fun adult. For some of us,
me included, that is the pinnacle of humanity. That's my main goal in
life. And that's what I think the goal of your 12 step program is, by
the way. To make fully functioning adults out of people who can't
function because of their addictions. So you might want to have some
respect for people who have figured all that out on their own, and be a
little humble. And be a little liked. Going out of your way to be
disliked doesn't mean you are living up to some Buddhist ideal, it can
also mean you have a martyr complex.
What about principles before personalties? Then we are free to
concentrate on 'what' is written instead of 'who' writes what.
If you could follow your own advice that would be fine.
Or do you discount that since it is a saying from 12 step groups?
Sometimes it is important to consider who is saying what. I don't
discount it just because of the source, I simply don't agree with that
statement.
