Yum Cimil JAGOTD |
Yum Cimil
Mayan (Yucatec, classical Meso-american) [Mexico].
A god of death of course. As is typical with gods in this region, his
iconography shows a bare skull, bare ribs in the vertebrae. Sometimes
the vertebrae will have spiny projections. an alternative to bloated
flesh that has dark ranks to indicate decomposition. However, he has
been known to dress up by wearing bell like ornaments fastened in his
hair. If you were lucky enough to be a sacrificial victim, you got to
be drowned in the sacred pool, which was called a cenote.
