Zen and the art of Pistol shooting |
I am trying to learn Zen, the NRA recommends it for improving my
performance in Pistol competition. I think I have one of the main
tenets down, ***** Happens. Seriously is this kinda correct.

Diarrhea happens, a ***** is planned.
Isn't zen meditation? Isn't meditation falling asleep? Isn't
it unwise to fall asleep with a gun in your hand?

Not in Nam :-)
Also if the weapon is fully loaded and the safety is off, it is
completely safe.
I used to asked the men in my platoon, how many people have been
accidentally shot with a loaded weapon with the safety off. 0

Are you in Nam now? Isn't it desirable to be alert? Doesn't
zen cause drowsiness?

Exactly, since it is completely controlled.

There's zen, and now.... ;)

Are you supposed to become one with the target and
then simply shoot yourself?

you might be looking at it from the wrong angle.
Sit down and relax, sit down and think, do something that just makes you
chilled, now, realise the purpose and meaning of life, throw away the
guns :)
See how easy that was?

Two of the books recommended was the Zen and the Art of Archery and
One Arrow One Life. I have also read part of Five Stones. So Zen isn't
exclusive of weaponry. I love to shoot, to make groups as small as
possible, to be at one with the pistol, the front sight, and the
target. Breath. Ommmmmmmmmmmm! Bang, Breath. Ommmmmmmmmmmm! Bang.
I like Zen and will try to understand it, I will endeavor to make it
simple and not difficult.
