Object: ??? about The Passion of Christ
It's probably all old news for many of you by now, but I didn't
get around to watching it until recently. I was of the impression
that it's supposed to follow what the Bible says fairly accurately,
and I'm wondering about some things.
· when Jesus is praying before he is taken prisoner, a being
shows up and starts telling him: "No one man can carry this
burden... Saving their souls is too costly...". Is all that in the
Bible?
· when they are being crucified, one of the thieves insults
Jesus and shortly a Raven comes along and eats his eye
out...is that in the Bible?
· a building (the temple?) splits due to an earthquake right
after Jesus dies. I remember the curtain tearing, but did
a building split in half? If not, it would have been better for
a couple of reasons to have shown the curtain tearing in
the movie, imo.

===>NO

And it is not really an insult.
And the men were no "thieves" but LESTAI, i.e. ZEALOT REBELS,
as was Jesus, their leader.
The other man states that they were under the same sentence
of condemnation!

===>That would have been less dramatic.
Curtains tearing are more common than buildings splitting.
BTW, it is interesting that a passage in Josephus 14.12.3
written before the Gospel was produced,
alludes to events such as a darkness
which came upon the land
following the death of Julius Caesar!
It seems the author of "Luke" adapted a lot of his material
from Josephus. -- L.

A lot of the stuff in TPOTC comes from visions of various Roman Catholic
saints over the centuries. Interestingly making it in Latin and Aramaic
only was a howler. If there was a Jesus his first language would have
been Aramaic. Pilate's first language was Latin; but, if they had a
conversation it would have been in Greek.
