It is not sufficient to have a ³religion.² Heathens have a religion, too,
only a little different from ours. God is not concerned about our
religion. In times when he is unable to come down and help, he even
prefers to let people become irreligious. In Egypt the Israelites could do
as they liked, and they went to rack and ruin. Yet he sent his help to
them; for his help does not depend upon human religion but upon God¹s
faithfulness, mercy, and power, and upon hearts that wait for him to come
down.
