Americans.
This is an exaggeration. Japan could not have gone on for much

That's apparently not what the Democrat president was thinking at the

No he wasn't. He wanted the war ended quicker. I am not saying he was
hasty in his decision, but I just don't agree with it.
"We shall continue to use it until we completely destroy Japan's power
to make war. Only a Japanese surrender will stop us." (Public Papers
of the Presidents, Harry S. Truman, 1945, pg. 212).
They were GOING to have to surrender. Or just stop fighting,
Truman did not think so.
Maybe. He might've wanted the war ended sooner anyway.
NOW--what were Hiroshima and Nagasaki supposed to protect America
from???
Dunno, what were they dropped to protect us from? Why were they
necessary?
All very good questions, which I was asking moron here.
Wow.If you read my posts at all, (which you obviously didn't), you
would see that i think they WERE NOT necessary. Way to have reading
comprehension. They were dropped to stop the war. I don't think they
stopped the war all that early, and I think the world would have been
a better place without opening the can of worms marked nuclear
weapons.
So why aren't you fighting?
Because I am a female and too old. There is no place in combat for
women, old or otherwise.
There is a place in combat for young women.
And whoever wants it may have it.
Okay, just making clear what you were actually saying.
Or are you one of the "greater good?"
Depends on what you are comparing. Comparing a free society with
repressive terrorist nations like those in the Middle East, I'll side
with the US.
Not that the U.S. is anywhere near perfect...
No one said it was.

If doing bad things to eradicate things that are worse, then you must
be against lawsuits, police apprehension, prison sentences, etc.
I think you are worse.
Worse than what?
I think Bush is worse.
Worse than what?
Does that mean it is
time for "eradication?"
You tell me.
As for "lawsuits, police apprehension, prison

Is putting someone in a cell (bad) a just reaction to theft and murder
(very bad)?
Would you prefer that thieves and murderers were free to roam the
streets to continue stealing and killing unchecked?
Innocent people always die during war. Democrats killed innocent
people, too, in WW2 and Vietnam.
You blame American deaths in WWII and Vietnam on JUST the Democrats?
Actually, it was clearly the conservatives who were unwilling to lose
face and allow more Americans to die.
Not a bit partisan are you? Vietnam was both parties' fault. Nixon,
LBJ, etc. It wasn't one party. WWII had almost unanimous support,
except for the unrealistic isolationists.
The reason was simple. They were scared shitless of "communists."
Today Bush and the Republicans are scared shitless of "terrorists."
No argument there. That doesn't make it acceptable.
It does if the innocent people dying unintentionally is for a greater
good, to solve a worldwide problem, or to eradicate a great evil.
Appeasement doesn't work and never has.

That is easy to be sure of in hindsight, but there had been a war for
over four years and the Allies wanted to insure the Japanese would be
unable to regroup and start over again. There was no need to stop the
advance and spend the time necessary to force some other solution when
a weapon was available which would end it immediately.
I wish thy had not let the emperor off.

murderers be free in society.
Go ahead.
Would you prefer that thieves and murderers were free to roam the

And being elected President?
That was a yes or no question.
Let me put it another way:
What should be done with people who break into the houses of innocent
citizens, rape them, murder them, and steal their possessions?
(Bush is both a thief (he was arrested
for it)
So, since arresting people is bad, do you think the police should do

No one likes war. Don't be stupid.
You should run

It's too bad you can't get a refund for your public school education,
which is really the only place you can learn something so irrefutably
wrong.
Then refute it.
Unbelievable that a person actually has to debate fourth-grade US
history with leftists, they are so ignorant.
"The Japanese began the war from the air at Pearl Harbor. They have
been repaid many fold.
"If they do not now accept our terms they may expect a rain of ruin
from the air, the like of which has never been seen on this earth."
(Public Papers of the Presidents, Harry S. Truman, 1945, pg. 197,
199).
That doesn't say the bombing was about Pearl Harbor, simple minded
one....
Yes, it does.
No, it doesn't.
"Having found the bomb we have used it. We have used it against those
who attacked us without warning at Pearl Harbor, against those who
have starved and beaten and executed American prisoners of war,
against those who have abandoned all pretense of obeying international
laws of warfare. We have used it in order to shorten the agony of war,
in order to save the lives of thousands and thousands of young
Americans.
"We shall continue to use it until we completely destroy Japan's power
to make war. Only a Japanese surrender will stop us." (Public Papers
of the Presidents, Harry S. Truman, 1945, pg. 212).
NOW--what were Hiroshima and Nagasaki supposed to protect America
from???
Japan and Imperialism.
How was Japan or their imperialism a threat to the US?
You need read your history.
Now we are the imperialists.
How is that?
The world.
Communism WAS bad. So is terrorism. But neither justified our
reaction.
If doing bad things to eradicate things that are worse, then you must
be against lawsuits, police apprehension, prison sentences, etc.
I think you are worse.
Worse than what?
Worse that what you were referring to.
What was I referring to? Lawyers, police officers, and judges? How
am I worse than a police officer?
<Yawn> I never said that.
I think Bush is worse.
Worse than what?
Worse that what you were referring to.
What, specifically?
You answer that. You were the one who initially said it.
If you don't know what you were
talking about, what does that say fore you?
Why don't you get on and make your case?
It was YOU who said it.
Does that mean it is
time for "eradication?"
You tell me.
You said it, not me.
I didn't use that word, you did.
No. Try to keep up. You said, "If doing bad things to eradicate
things that are worse, then you must be against lawsuits, police
apprehension, prison sentences, etc."
As for "lawsuits, police apprehension, prison
sentences," none is a panacea for "eradicating things that are worse."
Is putting someone in a cell (bad) a just reaction to theft and murder
(very bad)?
Depends.
On what?
Many different factors. The likelihood of recidivism, societies
purpose for imprisoning, the circumstances surrounding the crime - many
factors. It is COMPLEX, which is why the simple minded can't
understand it.
To the simple minded it probably makes sense, though.
Explain the subtle, complicated nuance that shows how prison sentences
for theives and murderers can be a worse idea than letting theives and
murderers be free in society.
Go ahead.
You clearly don't have what it takes to understand them and they are
far too complex to go into here. The fact that you think they can be
explained on a newsgroup only proves you fail to understand how complex
a subject you are dabbling in. You are a dilettante.
Would you prefer that thieves and murderers were free to roam the
streets to continue stealing and killing unchecked?
And being elected President?
That was a yes or no question.
That assumes false facts.
Let me put it another way:
What should be done with people who break into the houses of innocent
citizens, rape them, murder them, and steal their possessions?
What you are really asking is, what simple minded answer can we come up
with to deal with this complex problem. You are a Republican so you
need a simple minded answer. Sorry - this country is all sold old of
simple minded answer this week. The answer to the above is COMPLEX.
Books have been written on it. In other words, IT DEPENDS.
(Bush is both a thief (he was arrested
for it)
So, since arresting people is bad, do you think the police should do
nothing to fraternity people who steal Christmas wreaths as part of a
prank?
Who said arresting people is bad? And you are minimizing Bush's
thefts. (And murders.)
and a murderer.
How is Bush a murderer?
The same way Hitler was. He is responsible for the deaths of over
100,000.
So why aren't you fighting?
Because I am a female and too old. There is no place in combat for
women, old or otherwise.
The military takes females today.
Not in combat roles.
Tell that to Jessica Lynch. Besides, you are now avoiding the subject,
which I understand, since you are so quick to endorse others being
placed in danger while you sit at home and ***** that we need to have
more war.
Why not take up a support position?
What for?
You asked me why I wasn't FIGHTING, and that is why. Females do not
fight in the military.
And you are so simple minded that you think supporting a fighting unit
wouldn't be helping the war effort. Admit it, you are just another
chicken hawk.
http://www.symbolman.com/chickenhawks.html
Or are you one of the "greater good?"
Depends on what you are comparing. Comparing a free society with
repressive terrorist nations like those in the Middle East, I'll side
with the US.
We are no longer a free society
We are the freest nation on earth, anyway.
Not true. We are 14th, according to the latest analysis. We are
dropping.
and we are the repressive nation.
How?
We repress other countries. Why do you think we are so currently
hated? We are repressing Iraq, for instance.
People who think like you are dangerous and cowardly.
How is that, exactly?
You like war
No one likes war. Don't be stupid.
You apparently do. Bush does. Most Republicans do. But few
Republicans, like you, serve honorably.
You should run
for President under the Republican ticket in 2008.
Hm, I am not qualified to be the president.
It hasn't stopped Bush.
Because he IS qualified to be president, dork.
What makes him so qualified? He never left the country before being
aoppointed President in 2000 - even though he claimed he understood
international politics, he is a convicted criminal - twice, the highest
grade he ever received in college was a C, he never really held a job,
he has an estimated IQ of less than 100, he is responsible for the
deaths of hundreds before he was appointed President and hundreds of
thousands now, he avoided actually serving in a war he endorsed and
where others fought, he went AWOL, he was a heavy drug user, including
cocaine (something many people are currently in prison for - for life)
he ignored President Clinton's warnings about Al Qaeda and possible
attacks on the US before the WTC, he has ties to the Bin Laden family,
he was responsible for the Abu Ghraib scandal - and much more.
"One thing is for certain: There won't be any more mass graves and
torture rooms and rape rooms."‹Bush, press availability in Monterrey,
Mexico, Jan. 12, 2004

Answer the question, Mr. Know-it-all Leftist.
Now we are the imperialists.

What was I referring to? Lawyers, police officers, and judges? How

Then what did you say? What, exactly, am I "worse than" and in what
way?
I think Bush is worse.
Worse than what?
Worse that what you were referring to.
What, specifically?
You answer that. You were the one who initially said it.
No, I didn't. I don't drag George Bush into every sentence I type,
and I am not the one that compared him to anything I was saying,
either to say he was worse or better.
This argument is all you. Maybe you are debating yourself right now,
who knows.
If you don't know what you were
talking about, what does that say fore you?
Why don't you get on and make your case?
It was YOU who said it.
Said what? Which one of my many statements are you expressing
contention with?
Does that mean it is
time for "eradication?"
You tell me.
You said it, not me.
I didn't use that word, you did.
No.
Yes, I said nothing about eradicating anyone. You did.
Try to keep up. You said, "If doing bad things to eradicate
things that are worse, then you must be against lawsuits, police
apprehension, prison sentences, etc."
So are you?
As for "lawsuits, police apprehension, prison

(very bad)?
Depends.
On what?
Many different factors.
Such as?
The likelihood of recidivism,
Which has nothing to do with original incarceration, but rather
determination of the length of sentences which NO ONE was talking
about.
societies
purpose for imprisoning,
Why do societies decide to imprison people?
the circumstances surrounding the crime - many
factors. It is COMPLEX,
What is complex?
To the simple minded it probably makes sense, though.
Explain the subtle, complicated nuance that shows how prison sentences
for theives and murderers can be a worse idea than letting theives and

Go ahead.
You clearly don't have what it takes to understand them and they are
far too complex to go into here.
Oh, okay. Would it be easier for you to name reasons that theives and
murderers should NOT be given prison sentences for theft and murder?
For someone so complex, a person would think you were capable of
making at least one complex argument once in awahile. I'm
underwhelmed.
Would you prefer that thieves and murderers were free to roam the
streets to continue stealing and killing unchecked?
And being elected President?
That was a yes or no question.
That assumes false facts.
There's no such thing as a "false fact."
Let me put it another way:
What should be done with people who break into the houses of innocent
citizens, rape them, murder them, and steal their possessions?
What you are really asking is,
All I am asking is some kind of response to the above question.
what simple minded answer can we come up
with to deal with this complex problem.
How is murder and theft a complex problem? Are murder and theft
wrong/harmful or not? Do they require a response or what?
(Bush is both a thief (he was arrested
for it)
So, since arresting people is bad, do you think the police should do
nothing to fraternity people who steal Christmas wreaths as part of a
prank?
Who said arresting people is bad?
So incarceration and jail sentences are good?
So why is war ipso facto bad?
And you are minimizing Bush's
thefts.
As far as I know, that was the only documented case of Bush stealing
anything.
How is Bush a murderer?
The same way Hitler was.
Really? Bush rounded up innocent Jews and put them into death camps
to torture, starve, work, and gas them to death before incinerating
the corpses in ovens? Where?
He is responsible for the deaths of over
100,000.
So what? Truman, a Democrat, is responsible for many hundreds of
thousands more than that, many innocents. Yet history has vindicated
his actions in the context of war and nationalistic self-defense. If
you want to ***** on Bush and on war where innocent people die, then
Truman, Johnson, and Clinton all have to fall into the same
"irresponsible murderer" category.
So why aren't you fighting?
Because I am a female and too old. There is no place in combat for

since you are so quick to endorse others being
placed in danger while you sit at home and ***** that we need to have
more war.
Why should I stop someone from volunteering to serve in the military?
Adults make the decision to enlist, are given all the facts and they
are old enough to follow their own paths in life. Aren't you
"pro-choice?" If a person chooses to serve in the military and give
their time, effort, or life for their country, why should anyone stop
them?
Why not take up a support position?
What for?
You asked me why I wasn't FIGHTING, and that is why. Females do not
fight in the military.
And you are so simple minded that you think supporting a fighting unit
wouldn't be helping the war effort.
That's not what you asked me. You asked me why I wasn't fighting and
that is why.
Admit it, you are just another
chicken hawk.
Only a leftist would say that one must join the military in order to
be for supporting it politically.
Or are you one of the "greater good?"
Depends on what you are comparing. Comparing a free society with
repressive terrorist nations like those in the Middle East, I'll side
with the US.
We are no longer a free society
We are the freest nation on earth, anyway.
Not true.
According to who?
We are 14th, according to the latest analysis. We are
dropping.
Does that mean you'll be leaving soon for greener pastures?
and we are the repressive nation.
How?
We repress other countries.
In what way?
Why do you think we are so currently
hated?
I don't think that.
We are repressing Iraq, for instance.
How?
People who think like you are dangerous and cowardly.
How is that, exactly?
You like war
No one likes war. Don't be stupid.
You apparently do.
Where did I use the words "I like war?"
Bush does.
Really, where did he say that he likes war?
Most Republicans do.
Like which ones? What did they say?
But few
Republicans, like you, serve honorably.
I wasn't aware it was required. Although I'll ask my
honorably-discharged Navy veteran Republican husband about that to see
if you are right. And if he doesn't know, maybe his currently
honorably-serving Air Force officer Republican brother would know. Of
course, one of my former bosses and current friends who is a
Vietnam-era veteran Sea Bee and Republican would know if they don't...
Or, maybe I could call the offices of Bob Dole and ask him when I
exhaust my personal resources.
You should run
for President under the Republican ticket in 2008.
Hm, I am not qualified to be the president.
It hasn't stopped Bush.
Because he IS qualified to be president, dork.
What makes him so qualified?
The American voting public decided so.
