OUR MISSION
About Christ rising from the cross
To read the Bible in one year, today Read: Numbers 16-18
To Know:
³For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his
life as a ransom for many.² (Mark 10:45)
³To take Christ to the world, to nurture, equip and mature Godıs people and
to live to the glory of God² is the mission of the Byfield Parish Church.
Jesus Christ came to earth on a mission. He came to give himself as a ransom
for many and to make known his ransoming act everywhere on earth. Wherever
we turn in the New Testament we meet with the cross. Matthew, Mark, Luke and
John each devote half their gospels to the final week in Jesusı life that
ends on the cross. The sermons in the Book of Acts reveal that the cross was
the subject of apostolic preaching. Peter declared, ³Men of Israel, hear
these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty
works and wonders and signs which God did through him in your midst, as you
yourselves know this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan
and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless
men. But God raised him up, having loosed the pangs of death, because it was
not possible for him to be held by it.² (Acts 2:22-24)
Paulıs letters lifted up the cross. ³When I came to you, brethren, I did not
come proclaiming to you the testimony of God in lofty words or wisdom. For I
decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.² (1
Cor. 2:1,2) Johnıs letters too expound the cross. ³If we walk in the light,
as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of
Jesus his Son cleanses us from all unrighteousness.² (1 Jn. 1:7)
Lauren Bellinger designed the logo of the Byfield Parish Church to symbolize
our mission. Her design appears on the Sunday bulletin and church
letterhead. Our fourth meetinghouse was graced by a rose window. Lauren
represented Christ rising from the cross to picture what we say in the
pulpit. The hope of the world is this that the one who bore our sins has
risen from the dead and he is Lord. Lauren portrayed what Christians have
preached from the day that Jesus commanded the apostles to make him known to
all the world.
