CHRISTMAS IS COMING

About cross darkness

To read the Bible in one year, today read: 2 Chronicles 34-36

To Know:

³The true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world.² (Jn.
1:9)

Did John the Baptist really need to tell the world that the light was
shining? Does not light bear witness to itself by simply shining? Does the
sun not announce its own arrival? Plainly the sun reveals itself to all
except to those who are blind. Bill Walker engineered Discoveries, the radio
outreach of the Byfield Parish Church. Bill was blind. Sometimes I would
walk into Billıs house and he would ask if the light was on. He needed a
witness in order to know if light was present. John the Baptist was sent
from God to announce to spiritually blind men and women; in Jesus Christ
light had come into the world.

Many have come into the world claiming darkness is light. According to the
Bible there is only one true light. That light is the Word of God. Those who
have their eternal hope in anyone other than Christ are in spiritual
darkness. He is the true light that enlightens every man. Man in the Bible
means human and includes males and females. When the Apostle John says of
Christ Jesus that he enlightens every man; he does not mean that every man
is enlightened. He means that those who reject Jesus are unenlightened in
regard to the person and purpose of God. Only Jesus Christ came from the
presence of God. Only he has seen the Father. Nine verses later John writes,
³No one has ever seen God; the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father,
he has made him known.² (1:18)

To Do:

Too many preachers use their pulpit to condemn the sacrificial death of
Jesus as primitive and unworthy of God. They call the cross darkness. John
the Baptist was born to point to Jesus as ³the Lamb of God who takes away
the sin of the world.² (Jn. 1:29) The witness of the Christian Church is the
same as the witness of John the Baptist. We are called to point sinners to
their Savior.

To Ask:

Father, give our witness success.
