BIBLICAL REINCARNATION

About multiple saviors

To Read: Jeremiah 35-37

To Know:

³Be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name
of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the
dead, by him this man is standing before you well. This is the stone which
was rejected by you builders, but which has become the head of the corner.
And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under
heaven given among men by which we must be saved.ı² (Acts 4:10-12)

Who will you be in the resurrection? For Hindus this is an unanswerable
question. Hinduism, the worldıs oldest religion, believes reincarnation is
the path to Nirvana. Hindus believe every living being is an eternally
existing spirit or soul or self that upon death leaves one body to inhabit
another. Lord Krishna (3,100 BCE) is said to be the reincarnation of Lord
Rama (5,000 BCE), who was the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Salvation
or Moksha is attaining Nirvana, which is not heaven; rather, it is the end
of the soulıs transmigration through the cycle of birth and death. Good
works earn a rebirth to a higher consciousness. Evil doing consigns the soul
to a lower form of worldly life. Eventual extinction is the Hindu hope.

Previous to the 19th century Hindu meant culture and race not religion. When
the British governed India, Christianity defined the foreign rule. When the
British imposed a periodic census, Hindus began defining Hinduism as a
religion in order to fit into the legal system. Some scholars defined
Hinduism according to the Vedas (writings), making them analogous to the
Bible and the Koran. In truth, Hinduism is a widely diverse and highly
complicated amalgam of changing philosophies and ancient traditions.

Major American denominations, in an effort to be all-inclusive, open their
pulpits to those who lump all world religions together as valid ways of
salvation. Now that non-judgmentalism is highly valued by American society
it takes courage to refuse religious pluralists ordination to the Christian
ministry. For the sake of the lost we need to keep faith with Christ, who is
the only savior.
