AN EXEGESIS OF PROVERBS 22:6
"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will
not depart from it." Pro 22:6
An Exegesis is a deduction or conclusion based on words which are not
found IN that text. For example, the phrase "Train up a child in the way
he should go" may be taken from the text, but it is not an exegesis
because it can be _underlined_ in the text.
What is "Exegesis"?
"Exegesis" is "a deduction drawn from text."

Exegesis (from the Greek, 'to lead out')

An example of an exegesis might be to deduce or infer that the phrase
"Train up a child in the way he should go" is a commandment or grants
the "Right" of a parent to train or educate their child as they see fit.
Since that "right" is not stated, it can only be an interpretation,
deduction or conclusion based on the text.
This phrase "Train up a child in the way he should go" contains two
parts. First is, "Train up a child," and second is "in the way he should
go."
The first fragment, "Train up a child" is the part mistaken for a
command. This is actually an instruction, the statement of a Parent's
Privilege and Responsibility, a parents Duty and Obligation inherent in
the nature of parenthood as given by God.
The second fragment, "in the way he should go" describes or identifies
the purpose of parenthood, the object or end result of procreation. But
this is not limited to survival, but does relate to the purpose of God's
Creation. That is, all parents should raise their children to honor and
worship God.
The second phrase, "and when he is old, he will not depart from it" may
be perceived as an absolute statement of a fact, truth or reality,
which, without fail, will produce a child who will live as they have
been taught. It is not.
First, it assumes that the parents and child are perfect, in a perfect
world, and that the child both loves his or her parents AND the way they
have been raised -- and will not rebel. (Col 3:21)
The unfortunate fact is that Satan may deceive the child or the parents,
so that the parents teach the child one thing with their mouth and
another with their conduct; or the child sees their human imperfections
and hates their life. This statement of Solomon’s works both ways,
meaning that parents who lie teach their children to lie.
Too many parents mouth the word 'Love' and yet live a life of anger and
strife, of Obedience to command, Obligation to duty, and unwilling
submission to Duress -- and harsh punishment. They mouth the word 'Love'
and yet remove willing submission, consent freely given, participation
given in kindness and generosity.
Such children, having been trained up in the ways of domination and
forced submission to commandments, have no idea what the love of God is.
Children who are raised to forced obedience, to unwilling submission to
commandments, to fear and duress, were NOT raised in the "way he or she
should go."
The father who teaches the false Doctrine of Spousal Rape raises his son
to be a rapist, and his daughter to be a victim of rape.
