Why do you bother with the bilious blather of David V.?

Are you really that much of a fool?

Probably so, but my foolishness does not negate the fact that your posts
are so much bilious blather. How long did you have to concentrate to
come up with that profundity? Are not your words merely an example of
the ad hominem logical fallacy? I know this post is longer than two
sentences and your attention span is real short, so think real hard and
try to stay with me. If you have to, read one or two lines and then go
rest for awhile, watch a few minutes of Sponge Bob or Dora the Explorer
or Sesame Street, and then come back and try really hard to get through
the next couple lines. Repeat this until you get all the way through.
You can probably do this if you try really, really hard. Well, maybe .
.. .
Wait a minute . . . let's see here: "Pastor Dave" and "David V" . . .
both tend to give replies such as "No, it does not" and offer no
rebuttal evidence. Both "Pastor Dave" and "David V" have a habit of
ignoring all information that negates their pet theories. Both "Pastor
Dave" and "David V" have very short attention spans and are totally
incapable of responding to any assertion longer longer than one or two
lines of text. "Pastor Dave" and "David V" habitually snip and ignore
all evidence that demonstrates the foolishness of their posts. Both
"Pastor Dave" and "David V" have pet theories that defy all known
concepts of reality such as evolution did not happen and atheism is not
an active negation of a prior assertion . . . and utterly fail to
discern their (his) own blindness to reality and illogic in the face of
overwhelming evidence that his positions are absurd, not to mention
contradictory.
Hot damn, I believe the mystery is solved. Both "Pastor Dave" and
"David V" are the same person using diferent identities trolling the
news groups with his bizarre and screamingly obvious absurdities . . .
And none of this nonsense about different header information in this
guy's posts. That can be easily forged . . .

But your rather bizarre individualistic notions of historical method and

So you claim. Do you understand that vague claims and generalizations
concerning unidentified "historians" are not sufficient to support your
vacuous assertions? Can you name two or three of these historians? How
about a few citations from the work of these historians that you believe
support your bizarre notions? And yes, your notions of historical

No, it's not a claim,

You clueless, nattering nincompoop . . . Yes, it indeed is exactly your

backing up your claim with anything more than your own sillyass opinion.
If you could have, you would have.

Of course, but I am quite certain I can handle it, you see, I graduated
from collge . . . quite likely before you were born. Why not try me? I
have read in historical method and historiography to greater depths than
you obviously have. I can safely state that assertion because it is
manifestly obvious you are totally ignorant of historical method, and
have never so much as read even a simplistic introduction to the
discipline, so anyone having read a single article or book trumps you.
Why not run Professor Bloch's theory by me? How about Gotschalk's?
Barzun's, perhaps? How about Beard's Marxist method?
The fact is that you concocted this nonsense you consider to be
historical method out of your own sillyass prejudices to support your
juvenile constructs of atheism and your vitriolic hatred of religion.
Your reply is precisely the same sort of dishonest and bilious blather
we have all come to expect from Paster Dave and John Weatherly, which
conclusively proves that fundamentalist Christians have no monopoly when
it comes to posting childish pap and illogical bilge.
You failed to put up even a scrap of evidence for your sillyass notions
of history because you are not capable of doing so. Now why not try to
shut up? A truly forlorn hope . . . but hope springs eternal . . .

Ah... What's the matter, grasshopper? Did I hit a nerve? Are
you so sensitive about your little jesus that you cannot
even understand that you have absolutely no basis to claim
he was historical?
It seems you're the one that failed. You have failed,
miserably, to provide any contemporary evidence that the
jesus of the bible ever existed. Now that's "contemporary"
as in; a person of nearly the same age as another, or
belonging to the present time; "contemporary leaders", or
occurring in the same period of time; "a rise in interest
rates is often contemporaneous with an increase in
inflation"; "the composer Salieri was contemporary with
Mozart", or Living or happening in the same period is
contemporary.... you get the idea yet? The garbage you've
been trying to pass of as true has been at least 100 years
*PAST* being contemporary with the biblical jesus.
Now run along, grasshopper. You need to study more.

Ah... What's the matter, grasshopper? Did I hit a nerve?

I am quite certain you failed to notice that your words in this post are
still nothing more than your uninformed and wrongheaded opinon. You
still failed to put up by providing evidence. And you also failed to
shut up. As I anticipated.

Are
you so sensitive about your little jesus that you cannot
even understand that you have absolutely no basis to claim
he was historical?

It seems you're the one that failed. You have failed,
miserably, to provide any contemporary evidence that the
jesus of the bible ever existed.

As you still have not grasped even the most rudimentary concepts
concerning historical sources, you might try pages 48-49, and then pages
52-61, paying special attention to page 59, of Louis Gottschalk's,
"Understanding History." You will find that helpful. Then you should
proceed to pages 154-180, paying special attention to page 157 and pages
159-62, of Jaques Barzun's and Henry F. Graff's "The Modern Researcher."
Then you should examine pages 39-78, examining with special care the
last paragraph on page 41, page 47, paragraph 2 on page 48 through the
first paragraph on page 50, pages 53-54, page 56, and pages 60-64 of
Marc Bloch's "Apologie pour l'Histoire, ou Metier d'Historian"
("Historian's Craft" in the English edition, although the French is
better as it does not suffer the pitfalls of translation). Those
gentlemen are all rather accomplished historians and professors,
Gottschalk from the University of Chicago; Barzun of Columbia and
Cambridge Universities; Graff of Columbia University; and Bloch from the
University of Strasburg and later the University of Paris, as well as
co-founder of the "Annales" school of history and "Annales d'histoire
economique et sociale" (Roughly "Annals of Economic and Social History"
but the translation is mine, but since you assure your erstwhile readers
you have some knowledge of historical method, you must assuredly be
familiar with these men and their work, right? Oh, do you mean that
you, David V., have not the first clue about these men and their work?
Golly, I must confess that does not surprise me . . .)
Then you might consider picking up the first volume of Titus Livius' "Ab
Urbe Condita" ("The Early History of Rome" in the English language
Penguin edition) and take a look at pages 33-34. Polybius in his
"Histories" ( In Greek, but is titled "The Rise of the Roman Empire" in
the English language Penguin edition) discusses the nature of historical
method in several places, but I draw your attention to pages 44-47,
especially the first paragraph on page 45. Then examine "Annals" of
Cornelius Tacitus, ("The Annals of Imperial Rome" in the English
language Penguin edition) and note especially pages 32-34, 38-39, and
132-33.
The upshot of all this is that no modern and no ancient historian
supports your very own, highly personalized, and uninformed assumptions
concerning historical method. Yes, I refer to the gobbledygook you
authored immediately below as a prime example of your ludicrous
assumptions. Wherever did you dream up such fantastic folderol? And
why do you try to pass your junior high school twaddle off as legitimate
historical method when it is, at best, inane bombast?

Now that's "contemporary"
as in; a person of nearly the same age as another, or
belonging to the present time; "contemporary leaders", or
occurring in the same period of time; "a rise in interest
rates is often contemporaneous with an increase in
inflation"; "the composer Salieri was contemporary with
Mozart", or Living or happening in the same period is
contemporary.... you get the idea yet? The garbage you've
been trying to pass of as true has been at least 100 years
*PAST* being contemporary with the biblical jesus.

Have you noticed that those are your words above? And most assuredly not
"those of historians that know much more
than I [you, Mr. David V] do," which you claimed to be able to produce,
but failed to Gee, one cannot help but wonder why . . . Anyway, your
pretentious bombast is not evidence of anything except your own sillyass
opinion. Nor are your words even a reasoned argument, for that matter.
And those facts will not change no matter how many times you post them.

Now run along, grasshopper. You need to study more.

It seems I have studied, and produced certain results above, but do not
consider those results exhaustive as there is not a single tome
concerning historical method that supports you. Can you counter those
sources above by genuine experts in historical method with work by real
historians? I don't think you can. You cannot produce a single
credentialed and practicing historian who backs up your bilious blather.
And until you do, you remain the clueless, nattering nincompoop you are,
David V., not capable of backing up your ridiculous claims with anything
more than your own sillyass opinion and absurd assumptions. If you could
have, you would have. By the way, insulting me is also rather
pointless, as gigabytes of insults directed at me are irrelevant to your
position in all cases.

Your behavior is sillyand childish. You demand evidence, and for the
3rd time I provide sources, this time including specific page
references, in specific books by named historians, for precisely such
evidence, and again you tell me that instead of reading the evidence and
responding to the evidence, you claim to have deleted it because you
were not "interested in reading" it. You did not like what the Black
Monk wrote, but instead of attempting to refute his points with real
evidence and logical argumentation like grown ups do, you petulantly
claim to have added him to your kill file. Ignoring the sources and
evidence that disprove your pet theories does not alter the sources and
evidence nor does it make the sources and evidence disappear. The
sources and evidence are still there regardless of your juvenile
reaction to them.
And you still failed to provide the evidence you claimed to have. That
fact, added to the clueless nattering of your post here is yet another
justification for your appellation of clueless, nattering nincompoop.
Wear it proudly. It fits you so well.

ROTFLMFAO! You need to take a step back and look at
yourself, little one.
I'll make it simple for you:
Provide the names of all those that met this jesus and wrote
down what they saw. Hear-say, or something written 50 or
more years after the alleged events is not acceptable. Since
the authors of the NT were *NOT* witnesses, they never met
the dude and the authors of most, if not all, of the NT are
unknown. Just list the names. No big old long paragraphs of
excuses. Just the list. Is that too much for you to handle?

I personally do not believe that these exists any known extant recorded
or written, contemporaraneous, eyewitness account of the life of Jesus.
So what does that prove?
But then I have been saying that for some years right here in this very
same news group. But do not take my word for it, do a google search and
confirm that for yourself, or ask your alter ego paster dave.
All that said, how does that prove Jesus did not live?
You claimed to have the names of historians who agree with your
hypothesis that no human being ever existed unless there are extant
primary sources. You have not produced a single one. Nor will you.
One the other hand, I provided you with the anmes and citations of three
rather good historians who flatly refute your absurd notions. Where is
your list of historians who know more than you? Where is the name of a
single historians who believes that unless any and every human being is
documented by primary sources that these human beings never existed?

Where did this quotation come from? "I do not believe there exists a
single contemporaneous, eyewitness
account -- and that is by definition a primary historical source-- of
Jesus." Actually, I wrote and posted those words on 2003-06-20 14:40:27
PST. You can confirm this at:
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=historical+jesus+didymos&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&selm=X8LIa.5108%24C83.489168%40newsread1.prod.itd.earthlink.net&rn
um=3
Oh, and I have addressed this same issue many times over the years.
See, for example, this thread and note the date at
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=historical+jesus+pastor+dave&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&selm=ZUz6a.128%24M85.10934%40newsread2.prod.itd.earthlink.net&rnum=4.
Or you could try this one and note the date at:
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=historical+jesus+didymos&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&selm=itx0c.15719%24aT1.8530%40newsread1.news.pas.earthlink.net&rnum=1.
By damn, you yourself entered that very thread. Or was it a different
"David V."? And didn't someone using my name state rather baldly in
this thread that there is probably no known extant primary source for

Provide the names of all those that met this jesus

alleged events is not acceptable. Since the authors
of the NT were *NOT* witnesses, they never met the

Of course, Roger ***** also operates under the delusion that atheism

As a former theist/cradle Catholic, I can say that reality is far more
appealing when accepted for what it is.

Roger is one of those backwards people. His brain is wired

conservative and christian. I wonder.... brain injury?

Appealing, fascinating, wondrous, and all the stuff they're
looking for is right there without any need to create gods.
Part of their problem is that they need a replacement father
figure; someone that makes them the center of the universe.
A creator god does just that. Without that god they're just
an animal living on a small planet orbiting an average star
in a mediocre galaxy in a cold, uncaring, Universe.

And that so ties in with your "wired backwards" comment, since their

Could be. Christian programming starts early and is hard to
deprogram once it's set.

Now that's cool!
I play guitar and keyboard, but the alt. guitar groups usually end up

A noble endeavor. Music and laughter are two thing that bind
people together in a positive way.
My job is to get people to care a bit more for the
environment a bit better by showing it to them. I lead
nature hikes and get city people out into the woods to show
them how beautiful, amazing, and fragile nature really is.
When I did this in the San Francisco Bay Area I used the
llamas as a draw to get people to come on the hikes.
