because if you do, you will go to hell.
The devil has one goal: to keep you
from trusting for salvation in ONLY Christ.
That goal always remains the same,
but the way to keep people from
trusting in Christ ALONE changes
with the times:
In the days of the apostle Paul,
the attempt was to use the law of God
to partly take trust from off of Christ.
In the days of the Reformers,
the attempt was to use church and
baptism and sacrament and efforts
to partly take trust from off of Christ.
In our day, the attempt is to use
personal intent, personal resolve
("make a commitment",
"surrender" in submission,
"make" the Lord, Lord)
to partly take trust from off of Christ.
If the devil succeeds in keeping you
from trusting solely and totally in Christ
for your salvation, he will have you.
It makes no difference if you feel good,
or if you feel reborn, or if you feel peace,
or if you speak in tongues, or if you
have miracles or work miracles,
you are saved ONLY if you take your trust
from off all else for salvation and put
that trust solely and totally on Christ
to be your righteousness and eternal life.
