Object: Baptists Support Anti Gay Amendment
The Southern Baptists are doing their part to protect marriage as
delegates at the annual Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) in Indianapolis
today overwhelmingly passed a strong resolution calling on Congress to
pass the FMA. I've been at the convention the past few days meeting with
pastors from across the country and promoting our next three simulcasts
which are designed to encourage Christians to take a stand for
traditional marriage and to get out and vote in November. Over 700
churches nationwide broadcast our May program and we're hoping to surpass
that number for our simulcasts in July, August and October. Upcoming
simulcasts will feature Dr. James Dobson, Chuck Colson, the SBC's Richard
Land and Al Mohler and talk show host Janet Parshall. If you'd like to
receive information about FRC's upcoming simulcasts, contact us online
at: https://www.frc.org/get.cfm?i=PG04F04.
In a conference call this morning with a handful of pro-family leaders,
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) told us that the Senate will
vote on the FMA during the week of July 12. Based on the so-called hate
crimes vote we mentioned above, we have our work cut out for us in making
sure all Senators understand that the majority of their constituents do
not support special rights for homosexuals and that they do support an
amendment to the U.S. Constitution protecting marriage. No Senate office
should be spared a barrage of phone calls between now and July 12. It's
imperative that they hear from you, your family and your friends, both
over the phone and in person when your Senators are at home prior to the
July 4th holiday. Contact your Senators at the link below.

Please, the Southern Baptists fought tooth and nail for slavery, when
they lost slavery, they fought tooth and nail to save the Jim Crow laws.
Every step of the way for equality, the Southern Baptists have been
there trying to stop it.

Homosexuality is as harmless as being left-handed is, and just

Please do not refer to this as the "anti-gay" amendment. It is a positive
statement for the sanctity of a one-man/one-woman marriage and family issue.
It is for maintaining the moral integrity of the our society and for
maintaining the male/female relationship in marriage. Marriage is not a
right; it a special relationship in which a man and woman become one unit;
bringing the strengths and weaknesses of both genders into the union. The
sex act is a minimal part of the marriage union; the melding of the two
genders into one entity being the goal.

However you choose to dress it up, it is an anti gay amendment. I have
to wonder if the reason for such bigoted rhetoric is the number of
studies there are that suggest that the highest divorce rate in the US
is among fundamentalist christians in the bible belt. I am assuming
that that would include the southern baptists.
http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_dira.htm
It would not surprise me if they were making this large amount of
noise to deflect people from finding out that it is, in reality, them
that is ruining the sanctity of marriage and allowing two gays to get
married will only make them look worse.
People who live in glass houses really should not throw stones. Still,
I have yet to meet a fundamentalist christian who is not afraid of
looking totally hypocritical.

Please do not refer to this as the "anti-gay" amendment. It is a positive
statement for the sanctity of a one-man/one-woman marriage and family issue.
It is for maintaining the moral integrity of the our society and for
maintaining the male/female relationship in marriage. Marriage is not a
right; it a special relationship in which a man and woman become one unit;
bringing the strengths and weaknesses of both genders into the union. The
sex act is a minimal part of the marriage union; the melding of the two
genders into one entity being the goal.

If you're so worried about the "sanctity" of marriage, why don't you come up
with statement and Laws forbidding DIVORCE?
By my guess, of the 5% total of gay/lesbian people who would actually get
married, those that would form couples and actually DO IT might be 1%, yet,
60% of opposite-sex marriages end up in divorce.
Where is your public outcry and Law-making about THAT??? Why not make a
Constitutional Amendment requiring ALL marriages to last forever?
Hypocrites.

Glenn confuses me...

Not surprising, I am pretty much *slot proof*, as I think for myself,
sometimes extreamly liberal, or conservative, depending on the issues.
Religiously I am of a 'dead' sect, an Ebionite, this sect is
Jewish-Christian, with some Gnostic-like beliefs. I am well traveled, being
raised in a military family (thus many of my *hawkish* points of view)...
Put it this way, I don't fit in any pigeon-hole (as Craig Chilton can attest
to), so don't bother to try.
I am niether Republican, nor Democrate (nor attached to any political party,
for that matter)
I DISPISE Bush (voted for Gore), BUT support the War On Terrorism, including
Iraq (which I think is what confuses you, because the *peace-niks* INSIST on
pigeon-holing war supporters as *Bush-worshippers* (a pet-peave of mine)

Just when I'm ready to put him in the
intollerant fundi camp he has the ability to make me drop all my
guards and think he's actually a fair-minded, Good human being and
christian.

Why THANK YOU :-)

Look more closely at what Glenn writes. And you'll find that at
bottom, he's a fair-minded egalitarian most of the time. (But CAN
hide that pretty effectively, when he wants to. Perhaps just to enjoy
the debating.) (A.k.a., playing "devil's advocate.") Early on, a
few years ago, I was excoriating him for being an Anti-Choicer... but
then discovered a post in which he made it clear that he was
PRO-Choice throughout the first trimester. When I confronted him
with that, he fairly and good-naturedly admitted that I'd caught him
in his actual sentiments, and so that game was up.
