BASE YOUR LIFE ON FABLES? |
Intelligent adults do not normally believe in myths and fables.
They do not believe that Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, The Wizard of OZ,
Harry Potter or Aesop's Fables are real. They believe correctly that they
are fiction.
Do you want to base this only life on fictional tales?
Why do people believe in THOUSANDS of Gods? Again there is NO - NADA
objective verifiable evidence for the existence of any of these Gods. All
there are is ancient texts written by hundreds other men of totally unknown
veracity. There are no original documents in existence because they were
written on parchment which has long since rotted away. All that exists are
copies of copies etc. of unknown authenticity and veracity.
Isn't it logically obvious that if any of these documents were the word of
any 'real' god that he would have taken steps to preserve and demonstrate
their authenticity?
They are mostly myths, fables, contradictions and impossible tales.
Of all these different Gods and belief systems which is the true one, if
any, and which are fakes? None of the ancient religious documents are any
objective 'evidence'. They are all documents written, hand copied,
interpreted, modified and further copied, over the centuries, by errant men
with their own personal and selfish motivations. These documents were all
written before the invention of the printing press.
Man can directly communicate with the whole world via TV, the Internet,
Phone and Radio. IF there is a real God, why does he not announce to the
whole world from his heaven, by at least an equally effective means, that he
is the real God and all the others are fakes? And why does he not tell us
clearly and directly what he expects from us instead of using hundreds of
vague, ancient, contradictory, unoriginal documents, compiled by different
religions and hundreds of men of unknown veracity? Why does he not expose
and smite all the false gods?
I'll tell you why. The real objective evidence is that no Gods CREATED MAN
but quite the opposite; that man created gods!
There are thousands of different god beliefs. Here are just a few;

Read Genesis, about the FALL. These statements make me think you
believe that the current state of the world is what God created, BUT
it is not. The current state of the world is also explained in Romans,
as the first Adam sinned, the whole world is now in a fallen state, and the
last Adam, Jesus Christ will bing the consumation of the original Eden
back to the new state of the world in the near future.
You need to get into a Bible study, so that these things are explained

Why couldn't God leave the world the way he created it? What compelled
God to downgrade us?

Bible study won't help. They will only tell you what they think you should
read into the Bible. People should read the Bible for themselves.

Bill wrote:
Intelligent adults do not normally believe in myths and fables.
Don't they?
Are you so certain of that?
I am quite certain it is normal to believe in myth and fable and
abnormal to reject your societies myths and fables.
In fact rejecting the especially prized myths and fables of ones
communitee can make tyou a ctarget of hatred and suspicion.
I think you are possibly in the thraw of a powerful delusion.
(If you mean what you say.)
They do not believe that Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, The Wizard of OZ,
Harry Potter or Aesop's Fables are real. They believe correctly that they
are fiction.
Those story characters are designed (intended by their creators) as
entertainments.
Holy stories - myths and scripture are designed for a different purpose
- to teach moral and spiritual truths - or what the creators of those
stories believe are moral and spiritual truths.
Do you want to base this only life on fictional tales?
No people want to be happy and at peace with themselves and the world (
for the most part).
If a story tells people that they have a place in the world and a
purpose then a story can be a way of achieving what is desired.
No one desires to base their lives on fables - if you believe that then
you completely misunderstand what motivates actual people.
Why do people believe in THOUSANDS of Gods?
They believe because they need to have some purpose and meaning in
their lives and they need to make some sense of a hostile and
bewildering existence.
What the hell did you imagine they were for?
Again there is NO - NADA
objective verifiable evidence for the existence of any of these Gods.
Evidence schmevidence.
People want happiness and purposefulness and belonging not "evidence".
Isn't it logically obvious that if any of these documents were the word of
any 'real' god that he would have taken steps to preserve and demonstrate
their authenticity?
No - that would presume many things about the nature of God and its
purposes.
Do you have the list of Gods true atributes Bill?
No?
Didnt think so - so you are just making meaningless noises yet again.
They are mostly myths, fables, contradictions and impossible tales.
Yes - and people find meaning, beauty, and dare I say it , truth in
them.
Now what I have found is that some of these myths contain evil vile and
ugly things - "false" in the sense of being against the good and the
compssionate and the postive.
For example the Bible contains messages of oppression against women and
hatred for "other nations". So it doesnt matter whether the characters
in the story are real - what is really impostant (life and death
important) is holding up an evil example and naming it good.
Do you understand?
Of all these different Gods and belief systems which is the true one, if
any, and which are fakes?
None of them are (totally) true (not even the real ones) and none of
them are fakes.
(As I have carefully explained before.)
None of the ancient religious documents are any
objective 'evidence'.
You seem to think that is important for some reason but cant seem to
say why.
<snip wild speculation about "God">
No one knows Bill - so stop asking - just make something up if you
really need an answer - that's what most people do.
I'll tell you why. The real objective evidence is that no Gods CREATED MAN
but quite the opposite; that man created gods!
There are thousands of different god beliefs. Here are just a few;
Buddhism
Sorry - you are wrong again - Buddhism is not a "god belief" it is a
philosophy and system of beliefs and principles about the nature of
personal existence and the nature of suffering and how to be a better
person .
You may be a Buddhist and believe in gods (Not a very good one in my
not particularly humble opinion) but it is not part of Buddhism.
To be a Buddhist you must seek enlightenment by accepting the 4 noble
truths and following the eightfold way - both of which were taught by
the Buddha.
There is no reason an atheist cannot accept the 4 noble truths and
follow the eight fold path. All that superstitious god belief would
just get in the way - more illusion - when what you seek is clarity and
escape from illusion.
Mark.

Don't be such an idiot. Posting information on gods in a deist newsgroup is
fully appropriate.
Are you some minister that relies on your followers to provide your income
and social status?
Do you have ANY objective verifiable factual evidence to support your views

by facts?

I must have read Chris's post completely wrong. I thought it said "we do
not like it when theists troll alt.atheism". That suggests to me that he
considers himself an atheist. Maybe I misunderstood? Or maybe, as is
often the case with other angry people on the religion-related groups, you
simply think you know him better than he does?
Do you have ANY objective verifiable factual evidence to support your

Views? I saw only the statement that atheists do not like it when
religious types troll their newsgroups, and a rather presumptuous apology
made on your behalf. Aside from the cynical few who quietly appreciate
such trolling by theists in alt.atheism because it gives them something to
be indignant about, in most cases I would say the first part was pretty
obvious. If you have a problem with the second I would not particularly
blame you.

Yes, I was out of line with the second bit. I was annoyed by the fact
that he does to theists exactly what we wish they wouldn't do to us,
and as such perpetuates the common view that atheists are god-haters
and the like.

Well, if it is any consolation, you are not alone. I am regularly told by
people who do not know me at all that I am atheist, or Christian, or
Jewish, or Muslim, or a devil worshipper, or white, or black, male, or
female, left-wing, right-wing, liberal, Nazi... Basically whatever the
other person hates the most at the point when they decide they hate me too
- usually because I have asked them a question or disagree with something
they have said. Quite often this insistence that I am what they believe me
to be continues even after I have corrected them.
Some people have a very narrow view of the world that can accommodate only
two possible positions: the one they support and the one they hate.

No that is not a myth. It is based on the fact that there is no objective

believing there is

You have evidence??? Ok, show it.
Take a course in basic logic, Duke.
Basic logic says that just because you can't see it does not preclude it's
existence.

Duke, you have never once been able to show that what you post is true.
Where is your evidence? Why should anyone believe you? You don't even
manage to agree with the Roman Catholic Church, yet you keep telling us
that you are one.
Do you have ANY objective verifiable factual evidence to support your views

by facts?
You mean like that myth that there is no almighty God?
Where is your evidence that this God exists?

My evidence is everywhere's around you. Where is your evidence that there is no
God??? You are clearly confused over what God means to us. It's the promise of
life after life - for all eternity. There are only 2 options - eternity in the
loving arms of God or eternity in the loving arms of satan. Your choice.

Vague assertions are not evidence. I have repeatedly asked you for
specifics and you have repeatedly failed to offer any.
Where is your evidence that there is no God???
Until you provide evidence to support your claim, you have lost. I don't
need to provide evidence that gods don't exist until someone presents
evidence that one god or another does.

I choose neither. There is no evidence that Satan exists, either. Heaven
is a doctrine that has no evidence to support it. Hell is a doctrine
that has no evidence to support it. No evidence supports the doctrine
that there is a soul. No evidence supports the doctrine that the soul is
eternal.

to agree with Roman Catholic doctrine once in a while.

So, nothing about the Big Bang implies that any gods of any sort exist,

I used to be mad at God because he didn't do what I
wanted him to, bashing religion in a religious group is
what I had felt like doing in those times too (but I
didn't)... When all was going wrong (homelessness,
open heart surgery, no job, no possesions, etc) and
no one was there to help me, I get mad and angry at
myself but took it out on others.

Why, that's a myth right there!
It's also a fairly transparent appeal to ego.

are fiction.
Fiction is not synonymous with myth.
And the Wizard of Oz was itself has been widely seen as an allegory,

No, your illogic about drinking is nonsense. Take a bath if you're

your kids a healthy dose of beer? Tell 'em knock yourselves out.

I've always said, religious groups don't generally get the better class
of atheist, any more than the atheist group generally gets the better
class of theist.
Good answer to the original post, by the way.
