Object: Becoming a Christian: An Invitation
Becoming a Christian
by Ron Rhodes

Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?
A personal relationship with Jesus is the most important decision you could
ever make in your life. It is unlike any other relationship. For if you go
into eternity without this relationship, you will spend eternity apart from
Him.
So, if you will allow me, I'd like to tell you how you can come into a
personal relationship with Jesus.
First you need to recognize that . . .
God Desires a Personal Relationship With You
God created you (Genesis 1:27). And He didn't just create you to exist all
alone and apart from Him. He created you with a view to coming into a
personal relationship with Him.
Remember, God had face-to-face encounters and fellowship with Adam and Eve,
the first couple (Genesis 3:8-19). And just as God fellowshipped with them,
so He desires to fellowship with you (1 John 1:5-7). God loves you (John
3:16). Never forget that fact.
The problem is . . .
Humanity Has a Sin Problem that Blocks a Relationship With God
When Adam and Eve chose to sin against God in the Garden of Eden, they
catapulted the entire human race - to which they gave birth - into sin.
Since the time of Adam and Eve, every human being has been born into the
world with a propensity to sin.
The apostle Paul affirmed that "sin entered the world through one man, and
death through sin" (Romans 5:12). Indeed, we are told that "through the
disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners" (Romans 5:19).
Ultimately this means that "death came through a man...in Adam all die" (1
Corinthians 15:21-22).
Jesus often spoke of sin in metaphors that illustrate the havoc sin can
wreak in one's life. He described sin as blindness (Matthew 23:16-26),
sickness (Matthew 9:12), being enslaved in bondage (John 8:34), and living
in darkness (John 8:12; 12:35-46). Moreover, Jesus taught that this is a
universal condition and that all people are guilty before
God (Luke 7:37-48).
Jesus also taught that both inner thoughts and external acts render a person
guilty (Matthew 5:28). He taught that from within the human heart come evil
thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit,
envy, slander, arrogance, and folly (Mark 7:21-23). Moreover, He affirmed
that God is fully aware of every person's sins, both external acts and inner
thoughts; nothing escapes His notice (Matthew 22:18; Luke 6:8; John
4:17-19).
Of course, some people are more morally upright than others. But we all fall
short of God's infinite standards (Romans 3:23). In a contest to see who can
throw a rock to the moon, I am sure a muscular athlete would be able to
throw the rock much further than I could. But all human beings ultimately
fall short of the task. Similarly, all of us fall short of measuring up to
God's perfect holy standards.
Though the sin problem is a serious one, God has graciously provided a
solution:
Jesus Died for Our Sins and Made Salvation Possible
God's absolute holiness demands that sin be punished. The good news of the
gospel, however, is that Jesus has taken this punishment on Himself. God
loves us so much that He sent Jesus to bear the penalty for our sins!
Jesus affirmed that it was for the very purpose of dying that He came into
the world (John 12:27). Moreover, He perceived His death as being a
sacrificial offering for the sins of humanity (Matthew 26:26-28). Jesus took
His sacrificial mission with utmost seriousness, for He knew that without
Him, humanity would certainly perish (Matthew 16:25; John 3:16) and spend
eternity apart from God in a place of great suffering (Matthew 10:28; 11:23;
23:33; 25:41; Luke 16:22-28).
Jesus therefore described His mission this way: "The Son of Man did not come
to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many"
(Matthew 20:28). "The Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost"
(Luke 19:10); for "God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the
world, but to save the world through him" (John 3:17).
But the benefits of Christ's death on the cross are not automatically
applied to your life. God requires you to . . .
Believe in Jesus Christ
By His sacrificial death on the cross, Jesus took the sins of the entire
world on Himself and made salvation available for everyone (1 John 2:2). But
this salvation is not automatic. Only those who personally choose to believe
in Christ are saved. This is the consistent testimony of the biblical Jesus.
Listen to His words:
* "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal
life" (John 3:16).
* "For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son
and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise
him up at the last day" (John 6:40).
* "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me
will live, even though he dies" (John 11:25).
Choosing not to believe in Jesus, by contrast, leads to eternal
condemnation: "Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does
not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name
of God's one and only Son" (John 3:18).
Free At Last: Forgiven of All Sins
When you believe in Christ the Savior, a wonderful thing happens. God
forgives you of all your sins. All of them! He puts them completely out of
His sight. Ponder for a few minutes the following verses, which speak of the
forgiveness of those who have believed in Christ:
* "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness
of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace"
(Ephesians 1:7).
* God said, "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no
more" (Hebrews 10:17-18).
* "Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins
are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord does not
count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit" (Psalm
32:1-2).
* "For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is
his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the
west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us" (Psalm
103:11-12).
Such forgiveness is wonderful indeed, for none of us can possibly work our
way into heaven, or be good enough to warrant God's good favor. Because of
what Jesus has done for us, we freely receive the gift of salvation. It is a
gift provided solely through the grace of God (Ephesians 2:8-9). And all of
it is ours by simply believing in Jesus.
Don't Put If Off
It is a highly dangerous thing to put off turning to Christ for salvation,
for you do not know the day of your death. What if it happens this evening?
"Death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart"
(Ecclesiastes 7:2).
If God is speaking to your heart now, then now is your door of opportunity
to believe. "Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is
near" (Isaiah 55:6).
Follow Me In Prayer
Would you like to place your faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of sins,
thereby guaranteeing your eternal place in heaven along His side? If so,
pray the following prayer with me.
Keep in mind that it's not the prayer itself that saves you. It is the faith
in your heart that saves you. So, let the following prayer be a simple
expression of the faith that is in your heart:
Dear Jesus:
I want to have a relationship with you.
I know I can't save myself, because I know I'm a sinner.
Thank you for dying on the cross on my behalf.
I believe you died for me,
and I accept your free gift of salvation.
Thank you Jesus.
Amen.
Welcome to God's Forever Family
On the authority of the Word of God, I can now assure you that you are a
part of God's forever family. If you prayed the above prayer with a heart of
faith, you will spend all eternity by the side of Jesus in heaven. Welcome
to God's family!
If you've just become a Christian, I want to help you. I'd like to send you
some free materials that will help you grow in your faith.
If you're already a Christian, I'd like to hear from you too. I have many
free materials that will help you mature as a Christian.

Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?

Non of the Gods that I ever heard of have been forthcoming with the personal
relationship thing, like Loki may have been good for a laugh.
If Jesus did turn up for a chat I would hope he would do something about the
gore and splatter often associated with Christian imagery of him. It would
make a bit of a mess oozing and dripping all over the furniture unless he
left some miracle cleaner or something.

GOD'S LOVE FORGIVES
by Ann Shorb
I John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and
to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Isaiah 1:18
Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they
be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
At this special Valentine's season, our thoughts turn to love and the ways
in which we can show others that we care. Love is multi-faceted and there
are thousands of ways that we can exhibit our love for another person. None,
however, is more powerful than giving the gift of forgiveness to one who has
hurt you or sinned against you. The story below demonstrates this powerful
truth.
"There was a little boy visiting his grandparents on their farm. He was
given a slingshot to play with out in the woods. He practiced in the woods,
but he could never hit the target. Getting a little discouraged, he headed
back for dinner. As he was walking back, he saw Grandma's pet duck. Just out
of impulse, he let the slingshot fly, hit the duck square in the head, and
killed it. He was shocked and grieved. In a panic, he hid the dead duck in
the woodpile, only to see his sister watching. Sally had seen it all, but
she said nothing.
"After lunch the next day Grandma said, 'Sally, let's wash the dishes.'
"But Sally said, 'Grandma, Johnny told me he wanted to help in the kitchen.'
Then she whispered to him, 'Remember the duck?' So Johnny did the dishes.
"Later that day, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing and
Grandma said, 'I'm sorry but I need Sally to help make supper.'
"Sally just smiled and said, 'Well that's alright because Johnny told me he
wanted to help.' She whispered again, 'Remember the duck?' So Sally went
fishing and Johnny stayed to help Grandma.
"After several days of Johnny doing both his chores and Sally's, he finally
couldn't stand it any longer. He went to Grandma and confessed that he had
killed the duck.
"Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug, and said, 'Sweetheart, I know. You see,
I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing, but because I love
you, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long you would let Sally make a
slave of you."
Poor Johnny! He suffered needlessly. He let himself be held captive by his
own failure to confess and seek forgiveness. Sadly, we do the same thing. No
matter what you have done, or how you have failed, God knows. He was
watching all the time, ready for you to come to Him and pour your doubts,
fears, failures and sins before Him. My friend, don't run from Him, run to
Him. God's love forgives and it will set you free.
Loving Father, thank You that although You see every detail of my life, You
love me enough to forgive my offenses against You and against others. Help
me to turn away from my sin, and run to your loving arms.
---
I know you are very angry with God for some reason and He is saddened by it,
but He still loves you and will forgive you of your misplaced anger for He
is a forgiving God if you ask Him to forgive you.
May God bless,
Carl

SheBlew,
I still think you are a Christian playing crazy atheist to make people
think atheists are nuts.
But if you have seen God's *****, you should be able to tell me whether
it was a brown ***** or a black ***** and whether it was really bigger
than a donkey. Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a white ***** which a
symbol of something which I forget for the moment. So I think God's
***** would be white. If you have a picture of it you can post it to
the free.christians.binaries group.
I do find it hard to believe that a nice animal like an ***** would
laugh at the plight of children. An ***** can talk, I suppose, under
special circumstances - but I don't that it would laugh at children.
Were you using drugs when you saw God's *****? Are you sure you really
saw God's *****? Maybe you saw a farmer's ***** that you mistook for
God's *****.

Actually if you read the actual prophecy, Zechariah 9: 9 Rejoice greatly, O
daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh
unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an *****,
and upon a colt the foal of an *****.
The hero comes riding on both an *****, and upon a colt.
In Matthew, in order to fulfill this prophecy, Jesus actually send his
disciples to get the same.
Matthew 21: 2 - Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and
straightway ye shall find an ***** tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and
bring them unto me.
Note, he orders them to bring him an *****, and a colt with her. THEM!!
And then I guess by using the bible, one could get the idea that Jesus did
in fact have a fat *****. See Matthew 21: 7 -
And brought the *****, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they
set him thereon.
If Jesus sat on both the *****, and the colt, it would definitely indicate
that his ***** was fat enough to sit on both of them at the same time.
So Glad that I could clear that up.
Smile.

It's odd that someone who is so fond of quoting scripture would pass up
the chance now. When Jason put together his post-resurrection
chronology, I put it into a matrix so you can actually read the verses
that are being compared. For anyone that's interested, I've done the
same for this attempt:
http://www.geocities.com/chastity403/bible-bob/post-resurrection.chronology.html
Note that the scripture that appears in dark red have not been
referenced by Bible Bob. One verse precedes his references, and I
thought it reasonable to include it to help understand the pronoun in

chapter for the four books, and there's one chunk (Matthew 28:9-10) that

Tell you what. If you can do the following for me I would have to
reconsider my position, and this is a little thing, Carl, surely a
knowledgeable Christian such as yourself can do it.

The four gospel accounts of the Resurrection Morning are very
contradictory. If you can harmonize them and show what happened in
what order and then show me Who First Saw The Risen Jesus, I would
have to consider strongly becoming a Christian again.

Want to take a stab at it?

Would you like to place your faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of sins,
thereby guaranteeing your eternal place in heaven along His side? If so,
pray the following prayer with me.

Jerry,

You would!??

Kewl.

Just the resurrection morning. That's easy enough.

Mar 16:1, Luk 23:56a
Mat 28:1, Luke 23:56b
Mat 28:2-4
Joh 20:1,2
Joh 20:3-10
Mar 16:9 out of chronological sequence, Joh 20:11-17
Mar 16:10,11 out of chronological sequence, Joh 20:18
Mat 28:5-8, Mar 16:2-8, Lk 24:1-8
Mat 28:11-15
Luke 24:9-12
Mar 16:9-11 (from above),12,13, Luk 24:13-35

That should do it.

Since I believe and have believed for a long time that you are a child
of God with the spirit of God in him who turned atheist, I will not
break it down for you because I have given you enough so that you can
work it out yourself with the help of the spirit of God. But, if you
run into any problems; I will try to help.

Besides, if I gave it all to you I would be robbing Carl of an
opportunity.

It's odd that someone who is so fond of quoting scripture would pass up
the chance now. When Jason put together his post-resurrection
chronology, I put it into a matrix so you can actually read the verses
that are being compared. For anyone that's interested, I've done the
same for this attempt:

Grinder, Jerry is in Afghanisatan and this is a text group where a
four column html document might not work. My web site don't work so I
can't put it up there. Fret not, ole BB has every intention of
putting something pretty together for Jerry. But I did have to leave
room for Carl to respond as I told Jerry.

http://www.geocities.com/chastity403/bible-bob/post-resurrection.chronology.html

Hmm. You already did. Kewl and thanks. I was going to do something
similar with a column preceding the four Gospel columns to enumerate,
time, and explain some points.

Note that the scripture that appears in dark red have not been
referenced by Bible Bob. One verse precedes his references, and I
thought it reasonable to include it to help understand the pronoun in
the succeeding verse. I've gone ahead and included the rest of the
chapter for the four books, and there's one chunk (Matthew 28:9-10) that
has just been skipped in BB's references. I left it in "chronological"
order.

I'll check it out. I probably messed up something in my rush to
respond. No excuses for bad workmanship.
Oh, Jerry wanted the resurrection morning stuff. The women watching
was at the burial by Joseph of Arimathaea. Then comes Nicodemus and
his servants wrapping the body with spices, then the posting of the
gaurd, then the women buy and prepare spices and oils, tdhe women rest
on the Sabbath, and then came to view the sepulchre near sunset, then
earthquake and angel, them while yet dark Mary <agadalene leaves and
finds Peter and the other disciple, then Peter and the other disciple
go to the Sepulchre with Mary Magdalene. I failed to include the
events from Joh 20:1,2 and 20:3-10.

If you're interested in interested in Jason's stab, it's here:

http://www.geocities.com/chastity403/jason-gastrich/post-resurrection.chronology.2.html

Hmm. Very pretty. Wish I knew how to prepare pretty documents like
that. I'll have to look at the contents later when I have time. Gotta
go for now.

I will try to get it together for you today and rent some webpage

only about 24K, but the linked files will make it larger. Could you
receive an email under 3MB?
Hey, you're a Puter man. I use Abyss Web Server but can't get it to
work on my new compter which runs on XP Pro SP2. I use No-IP to get
around the dynamic IP system that roadrunner uses. I was going to
switch to IIS but IIS is not installed and I don't have the XP disks.
The partition I assumed held the operating system is empty. Do you
know where I could get the files I need to get IIS to work? I tried
Microsoft but to be honest don't really understand what to download or
where to download it from. If I get and install IIS do I have to use
Frontpage or can I use another Web Page program?

Get Apache for Windows, it's easier to configure manually for the
inexperienced,
and easier to get going. You need to first check that port 80 is open
on
your firewall
and listed in the exceptions.

Get out of town! There is a Windows Version of Apache? I never even
looked. Thanks, Rod.

Yea, and it's pretty darned GOOD to ! It's easy to configure and get
running
as a service or manual standalone.

Would you like to place your faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of

Jerry,

You would!??

Kewl.

Just the resurrection morning. That's easy enough.

Mar 16:1, Luk 23:56a
Mat 28:1, Luke 23:56b
Mat 28:2-4
Joh 20:1,2
Joh 20:3-10
Mar 16:9 out of chronological sequence, Joh 20:11-17
Mar 16:10,11 out of chronological sequence, Joh 20:18
Mat 28:5-8, Mar 16:2-8, Lk 24:1-8
Mat 28:11-15
Luke 24:9-12
Mar 16:9-11 (from above),12,13, Luk 24:13-35

That should do it.

Since I believe and have believed for a long time that you are a
child
of God with the spirit of God in him who turned atheist, I will not
break it down for you because I have given you enough so that you can
work it out yourself with the help of the spirit of God. But, if you
run into any problems; I will try to help.

Besides, if I gave it all to you I would be robbing Carl of an
opportunity.

So, who first saw the Risen Jesus?

Jerry,

God in His foreknowledge and then the angel.

You didn't say but I assume that you were talking about SAB calls a
contradiction. I handled that in what I put together.

I put the whole thing together for you yesterday (except some links
and proofreading) but had to stop when relatives came to visit. My
web site is down and it can't get up. Need's Life Alert or something.

I will try to get it together for you today and rent some webpage
space someplace so that your can read it. Do you have access to the
free.christians.binaries group? If I put the html files in a zip or
rar file is there someway I could email it to you? The document is
only about 24K, but the linked files will make it larger. Could you
receive an email under 3MB?

Hey, you're a Puter man. I use Abyss Web Server but can't get it to
work on my new compter which runs on XP Pro SP2. I use No-IP to get
around the dynamic IP system that roadrunner uses. I was going to
switch to IIS but IIS is not installed and I don't have the XP disks.
The partition I assumed held the operating system is empty. Do you
know where I could get the files I need to get IIS to work? I tried
Microsoft but to be honest don't really understand what to download or
