What a bizarre thing for a supposed Christian to say! Why would
anyone translate it?
"Gave"? So the Son is gone forever? "*Only* begotten Son"? Did
poor God go impotent after that, or is it just that virgins are so
hard to find?

Somewhere I've got a little book called (I think) "The Bible in Many
Tongues", that has it in _way_ more languages than that.
But it's not a GIF or a JPG. ;-(

That might be "Book of a Thousand Tongues," edited by Nida; there were a
couple more editions that brought the tongues well over 1000 but didn't
change the title. It's no longer available, but it's a useful source for
a glimpse of lots of scripts. (Of course a large majority of them are in
a variety of roman alphabet.) The last edition was quite coffee-tablish.

Mine's called "The Gospel in Many Tongues", British and Foreign Bible
Society, 1965. It has 875 languages, with useful indices and maps at the
back. They use John 3:16 where available, otherwise Matthew 4:10, Mark
3:35 or Luke 15:10. The preface says "This little book first came into
being more than a hundred years ago...", suggesting in-house origins at
BFBS, but it's not clear when it was first published.

incidentally, is John considered the most peculiarly "christian" (for
example, trinitarian) of the gospels? I have encountered translations of
this particular gospel only in languages with majority non-christian
speakers.

It is also the most anti-semtic of the Gospels. It would seem that John
of the Gospel hated Jews.
And for perfectly good reasons.
There are no good reasons.
Anyone who hates Jews is an unbridled reprobate and has no place in the
Church.
Do bridled reprobates?
or unbridled probates?

I think some sort of bridle is required, for the church is the Bride of
Christ.
