Object: Bible Statistics
Analyzing Mark 15.1-5, the hypothesis was submitted that it can be
classified into two opposite groups, using a version of the King James
Bible:
Group A: Vss 1-2 3b 4ab 5 9 12 14ab 15
Group B: Vss 3a 4c 6 7 8 10-11 13 14c
Using Runs Test for Randomness, my silly students (not I) get:
A/B/AA/B/A/BBB/A/B/A/B/A/B/A
or l3 Runs. So
Na = 8 Nb=8 and R= 13.
Referring to Runs Tables, for Na=8 and
Nb = 8, the 5% significance level is
4-14. R=13 is in the range.
Therefore, Runs test shows that the probability of WHATEVER we have
here is likely to occur by chance only 5 in 100, or 1 in 20 times, and is
therefore probably significant.
My question is: What does this mean here? Does it mean that the two
groups are probably opposite, and so that the division into two groups
supports the hypothesis?
My guess is that maybe it means SOMETHING. I haven't a clue what it
means.
As a footnote, both groups have 8 members, so is there some other
significance test that could be performed?

Crank "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe" through the process and see
what turns up.
