Brotherhood of man ... OR ... Was Jesus a COMMUNIST? |
Was Jesus a communist?
Imagine no possessions,
I wonder if you can.
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man.

Was Jesus a communist?
Some aspects of what we know of his teaching suggest there might be
certain things in common, as I believe John Wesley thought, and
various others continue to think.
That said, Christians and Communists have a tremendous amount in
common if only in the sense of ideology, which is to say that while
the "facts" of arguments made by Christians and Communists differ, the
modes of argument are identical.
But the *really* interesting question for Christians: do you think
you'll own things in Heaven?
Imagine no possessions,
I wonder if you can.
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man.
I'd have been rather more impressed if it'd been written by someone
who *used* to be a multi-millionaire. But then as Iain M Banks
occasionally observes, money is a form of resource rationing and only
used by societies poor enough to require rationing.

No, no. Jesus was put to death by the Roman neo-Cons (who were goaded on by
the local Jewish conservative reich-wing leaders). Get your history
straight, for crying out loud.

The problem with the U.S.S.R. was not so much that it was a small 'c'
communist society, but, rather, big 'C' Communism is 'Godless'. The people
turned to alcohol and tobbacco in droves and wouldn't let up. On a typical
U.S.S.R. Monday morning 40 % (forty) were hung-over. Not good. The society,
burdened with alcoholism, tobbacco addiction and the expence of its
militarism had a small collapse and the U.S.S.R. was dissolved.
The idea of a Christian 'communist' society is not untenable and quite
possible and might even be successful ..

===>Only if it, like the Soviets, exterminated millions of those of us
who prefer a democratic republic to a theocratic "kingdom".
Of course the parable clearly shows such a case:
"But these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them,
bring them here and slay them in my presence." (Luke 19:27)
But you did not get my point: is communism compatible with
having a king? -- L.

Castro has lasted quite some time, despite - or perhaps because of - the
economic pressures from the U.S.
