A European team claims to have obtained the first direct image of a planet
beyond our own Solar System.
The "extrasolar planet" is said to orbit a star called GQ Lup - thought to
be like a young version of our Sun.
Similar claims have been made in the past, but sceptical scientists believe
the pictures merely show objects that share the same view in the sky.
The GQ Lup object is far more certain claims Ralph Neuhaeuser's team in the
journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.
GQ Lup and its companion are located in a star-forming region about 400
light-years away.

Gidday BS,
Everyone has options on UFO's mine is that they are testing a top

Then why assume it is true? It's been shown, by investigations performed
by the Skeptic's Society (www.skeptic.com) and James Randi
(www.randi.org) that most, if not all, UFOs can later be actually
identified.
And can I ask - are you actually thinking that this "top secret" plane
can turn invisible??

I don't want to get into the subject of UFO's as I'm sure there is
another newsgroup that welcomes posts on UFO activity.

Why do you happily believe any vague shred of physical evidence that
the ark existed, but ignore the mountain of evidence that it did not?
Physical evidence is either important or it is not. Make up your mind.

There have been many interesting programs on the Discovery Channel and

I wish I could tell you what the program was about and how they had

I may have it recorded on video tape.
If I find it on tape when I'll watch it again and full you in on the
facts.

How stupid are you ? A documentary on TV is NOT an argument, I saw a
documentary on Discovery Channel about UFO's, some of the people in this

existed ..... do you believe in UFO's too ? Is this how you get all your
science ?

LOL .... it's not even a start..... that Documentary is years old ....
Turns out the 'shape' was a rock formation ...... kind of like the 'face

inspection it's just a bunch of rocks ..... do try to keep up here Boy
Wonder ..... go and buy yourself a copy of 'Scientific American' ....
You're clutching at straws here BS, basing all your evidence on one old,
satellite pic ...... which has since been shown to be some rocks .......
while completely ignoring all the evidence that says it NEVER happened .....
I'll repeat it for you, NO ONE has ever found ANY evidence for the
existence of the Ark ..... lots of people have 'claimed' it, but none of
these claims has ever withstood even the slightest scrutiny ....
and despite your silly claims .... Mt.Ararat has been well and truly
scaled, mapped, explored and documented ......it's been famous for quite
some time now, as you are probably aware, even the US military has
comprehensively imaged it from their satellites...... guess what ?
no Ark .....

Gidday BS,
I said SOME evidence by scanning parts of the earth.
What do you mean by "scanning"? Satellite photos?
It's just a
matter of time before hard evidence can be found.
Really? Then explain to me why, after literally dozens and dozens of
expeditions, that no evidence has been found. We are even told pretty
much exactly where to look, if you check out the biblical passages.
People did not believe that pictures could be send through the air and
now we have television.
And this has what to do with the ark...? You realise that people once
thought disease occurred because you were inhabited by demons, right? Or
that angels pushed the sun around the earth?
Just because some people believe in something whacky doesn't make it
true. :)
There have been many interesting programs on the Discovery Channel and
History Channel that use science to make discoveries.
Okay, firstly I don't have cable (here in Australia it's quite
expensive). Secondly, I don't watch tv. And finally - science quite
definitely shows that the ark could not and did not exist. Besides all
the problems with a global flood, the ark itself has major engineering
problems, none of which can be overcome by iron age humans.
However, if you wish to discuss this further, I have no problems. :)
Cheers,
TGHO

discoveries possible. Some say it's impossible and I say it's
possible. Just like some said sending pictures thru the air was
impossible.

There is a science that tries to prove that the bible is false by
offering alternative explanations and there is a science that is
trying to prove that the bible is correct by making deeper
discoveries.

Neither of these approaches has anything to do with science. Science looks
for the truth.
The geological evidence is strongly against any world wide flood that
covered the entire Earth at one time in the last 6000 years. But that's the
smaller point. The geological evidence totally disproves the theory that all
fossils on Earth were laid down in a single deposition following a single
flood.

shed more light on this.
This is untrue. Mount Ararat in Turkey is relatively accessible to
tourists and scientists. The Turks tend to frown upon people going there
because it's near one of their big military bases, but as long as you
are accompanied by government or military officials, they will let you
go.
The main problem the Turks have is the constant stream of christian
"scientists" who keep telling the outside world that the Turks blocked
them from taking artifacts or geological samples, purely as an excuse to
try to lay blame for not finding the ark.
All I'm saying is that good progress in science development has made
discoveries possible. Some say it's impossible and I say it's
possible. Just like some said sending pictures thru the air was
impossible.
The science behind archaeology and paleontology have been pretty solid
for many, many years - roughly sixty or so. More, if you're dealing with
big, solid objects. Sure, there are always advances, but the basics
don't change.
What I'm saying here is that if there had been an ark to be found - it
would have already been found!
There is a science that tries to prove that the bible is false by
offering alternative explanations and there is a science that is
trying to prove that the bible is correct by making deeper
discoveries.
Incorrect. Totally and utterly.
Science has only one goal, and one goal only. That is to deepen our
understanding of how the natural world works. It has absolutely no
interest in religion, the supernatural, mysticism or magic.
If the bible doesn't match up with the modern understanding of nature,
then the reason for this is because it was written well before humans
actually understood nature. Trying to force nature to match the bible is
just plain silly.
Because you've never seen it happen does not mean it didn't happen.
True, I'll accept that. However, all events leave evidence. And
something as big and as devastating as a global flood would leave a huge
amount of physical evidence - none of which has ever been found.
What you choose to believe is a personal thing.
Again, true. However note that reality follows a set of laws and
theories that have nothing to do with belief, and are not affected by
whatever we humans believe.
Cheers,
TGHO

• A few years ago CBS produced a special on Noah's Ark. The
investigators went to Mt. Ararat and allegedly brought back a piece of the

Long Beach, California. Perhaps this was a harbinger of the Dan Rather
