THE SECRET OF THE LORD-The secret of the Lord is with them that fear
him. Psalm 25: 14. Judas saith unto him (not Iscariot), Lord, how is
it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us and not unto the world?
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my
words: and the Father will love him. John 14: 22, 23.
MEDITATION.-Spiritual things are to be spiritually discerned. It could
not be otherwise than that God must reserve his finest disclosures for
those who are prepared to receive them. Step out into the day and lift
up the eyes over forest and field, or into the night and look up into
the heavens, there is a glory of God that is readily visible to all.
But let the trained eye appear on the scene, the forest and fields and
heavens become at once another book for beauty and glory. The degree
of the revelation is measured by the capacity of the eye. So in the
world of sounds; it is the trained ear that catches the sweeter
symphonies of nature and art, the finer message of the music of the
spheres. God does not give him best to the world at large, because he
cannot, and because, if he could, it would be futile. How can he
communicate to eyes that see not and ears that hear not? It would be a
waste of energy, especially in the case of the incorrigible and the
scoffing. What can swine do with pearls or dogs with things that are
holy? God has his finest, sweetest disclosures for those who are the
most spiritual. Those who love him most hold the secret of the Lord.
SUGGESTION FOR PRAYER-Prepare us, O God, and keep us prepared for the
visitations of thy Spirit. Give us the seeing eye and the hearing ear.
HYMN.-- Love divine, all love excelling, joy of heav'n to earth come
down,
Fix in us Thy humble dwelling, all Thy faithful mercies crown.
Jesus, Thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love Thou art.
Visit us with Thy salvation, enter every trembling heart..
SCRIPTURE READING.-1 Corinthians 2: 1-15

These daily devotions come from an old book by Rev. Washington Bryan
Crumpton, 1842-1926. The book is called DAILY DEVOTION and was first
published in 1923 by the Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist
Convention.
This book is now extremely rare. These daily meditations are copied
exactly from a precious copy the Lord led me to. There are no other
copies known to be available in an in depth search of the Internet,
although Rev. Crumpton wrote other books, one of which, ADVENTURES OF
TWO ALABAMA BOYS, can still be obtained for hundreds of dollars, or
can be downloaded free from the internet.
More information on W.B. Crumpton, including a picture of himself and
his brother, can be found at this URL:

A search of google.com will also glean tidbits about the role of Rev.
Crumpton in the history of the Southern Baptist church.
May you find as much joy, comfort, and love in these old fashioned
devotions as I have. God bless you all.
Love,
