THE DUTY AND PRIVILEGE OF MISSIONS.-Go ye therefore, and teach (make
disciples of) all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all
things whatsoever I have commanded you. Matt. 28: 19, 20.
MEDITATION.-When our Lord introduced the gospel on earth it was in
terms which give unmistakable evidence that he meant for it to go on.
He knew well that only the introduction was possible during the time
of his stay on earth and so he provided for agencies which would take
it beyond his day. Hence the business of Christian missions, the going
into all the world and preaching the gospel to the whole creation.
Christianity is a system of doctrines to be believed, a system of
precepts to be observed, a system of commandments to be obeyed,
privileges to be enjoyed. The great living words of the Lord Jesus in
which he sent his disciples out into all the world should be regarded
by us, as they were by the apostles, as both commission and
permission. Duty and privilege go ever together in the thought of the
gospel. Jesus in his sovereign authority commissioned his disciples to
evangelize the nations of the earth, and the apostle Paul construed
the obligation as a dispensation of "grace." We are to think of the
gospel as intended for all, and of ourselves a having our finest
discipline and our greatest earthly privilege in extending it to all.
SUGGESTION FOR PRAYER-We thank thee for the gospel, O God our Father,
and for the duty and privilege of carrying it out to the nations of
the earth. Help us to see the greatness and the glory of our task. O
that all may come into a like blessedness with ourselves!
HYMN.-- The morning light is breaking; the darkness disappears;
The sons of earth are waking to penitential tears;
Each breeze that sweeps the ocean brings tidings from
afar
Of nations in commotion, prepared for Zion's war.
SCRIPTURE READING.-Romans 1: 13-25.

These daily devotions come from an old book by Rev. Washington Bryan
Crumpton, 1842-1926. The book is called DAILY DEVOTION and was first
published in 1923 by the Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist
Convention.
This book is now extremely rare. These daily meditations are copied
exactly from a precious copy the Lord led me to. There is but one copy
now known to be available in an in depth search of the Internet,
although Rev. Crumpton wrote other books, one of which, ADVENTURES OF
TWO ALABAMA BOYS, can still be obtained for hundreds of dollars, or
can be downloaded free from the internet.
More information on W.B. Crumpton, including a picture of himself and
his brother, can be found at this URL:

A search of google.com will also glean tidbits about the role of Rev.
Crumpton in the history of the Southern Baptist church.
May you find as much joy, comfort, and love in these old fashioned
devotions as I have. God bless you all.
Love,
