Klutzes (idiots) are against dancing and against moderate drinking.

Ted, David Cloud is still a lousy source. He is still off base scripturally,
intellectually and logically making him a poor so-called expert to place a
lot of weight on.
May God bless,

I read a few paragraphs of this with some amusement.
I guess the authors of your silly web page never attended a Jewish
wedding or a Jewish barmitzpha.
Our Lord Jesus attended BOTH, and I PROMISE you, He danced at both!
(it WAS the custom), and He danced with FEMALES (at LEAST with His
mother and His sisters! He likely danced with His cousins, and
family/school FRIENDS.

Not that I disagree with you, but I believe that I will remember that
argument for future reference for other things.

Er....I don't know if it was the custom to dance with members of the

Who told you that.

What, that dancing was pretty? I think dancing is pretty...most of the
time. I love 'Dancing with the Stars," don't you? Mind you, I think that
this coital reinactment that sometimes happens on the dance floor among
teens is going a bit far, but then I'm a little old fashioned. In "my day" a
dance called the 'jerk' was banned...and I honestly don't see the grace in
hip hop. The athleticism, yes--the grace? not so much.
Oh, yeah...dancing in the mid-east then...and now...was segragated; men with
men, women with women.
As to who told me?
Research, man, research. Does wonders for one's credibility. Going to
dances. Dancing. You know, research. ;-)

I read a few paragraphs of this with some amusement.

I guess the authors of your silly web page never attended a Jewish
wedding or a Jewish barmitzpha.

Our Lord Jesus attended BOTH, and I PROMISE you, He danced at both!

(grin) you have decided that Jesus danced because it was the custom of the
day for jews to dance? ;-)

????? It's my impression, and the impression of the scholars I
discussed THIS issue with (and His consumption of alcohol, as was
CUSTOMARY), that-- so long as the Jewish custom wasn't SINFUL-- some
were-- He would "fit in."
What was the point of Him creating almost 200 gallons of fermented
wine at the wedding if it wasn't Him "fitting in." ??
Now, if you want to call that "license?"
Picture this: Jesus in NO way controlled the behavior of those
around him, nor were people -- by default-- inclined to their best
behavior when He was around. (proof incident: The cleansing of the
temple. They didn't stop sinning when Jesus walked in)
Picture Jesus at a bachelor party when He's 25. An old buddy is
getting married (Jesus hasn't yet begun preaching/He's just another
young Jewish man, if well known) Jesus arrives at the party, delivers
a gift; say it's a case of good kosher wine.
Within 15 minutes of Jesus' arrival, as was customary in some
circles, the "dancing, stripping *****" shows up. As she begins
gyrating, taking this off, then that, kissing "the It" guy
passionately, rubbing herself against him provocatively, then grabbing
the next guy, and then the next, intending to "do" every guy there,
does Jesus "hang around for His "" turn""? Or does he say, "This isn't
cool!" Gets ignored (hey, it's the CUSTOM), and apologizes, then
leaves?
It's the custom among young males His age (let's pretend it is), but
it's sinful.
He excuses Himself and leaves before ANY contact with the young
*****.
He partook of the customs when there was no sinful activity
involved.
If there was sinful activity, if a few words from Him didn't STOP
the activity, He would leave.

Not that I disagree with you, but I believe that I will remember that
argument for future reference for other things.

Fine, as long as you try to apply scripture, and not just "win a
round."
And I will not promise to "get into it" with you, since I don't
consider us "equals" by any stretch.
I am born again; I believe you follow "false gods."

That's "bar mitzvah," you blithering idiot. You've been corrected about that
a couple of times now. No, I haven't been to many Jewish weddings or Bar
mitzvahs. Or Bat mitzvahs. In fact, I haven't been to any. However, my
daughter works for an Orthodox Jew, and she not only has been to many, she's

Certainly Orthodox Jews don't mix sexes in the dance NOW.

The point behind Orthodoxy is that they keep, as much as is possible, the

You know, Diana, it seems to me that it's not "self-righteous,

problem is when you think someone has done it to you (because
obviously, you're quite comfortable operating in that manner

john, john....you honestly believe that you are 'born again,' and consider
yourself better than me?

???? "Better than you?" I don't believe I used those words. Nor
was that my intent. Are you going to truly start the New Year by
putting words in people's mouths, intent in their hearts?
tsk tsk
I am born again; you are not.
That's what I said; that's what I meant, and what I mean.
And, Mormon, Roman Catholic, Christian Scientist, Jehovah's Witness,
Jew, Atheist,
if you truly wanted to follow after God, right on His coat tails,
this issue of "being born again"...
(Jesus said "if you want to enter the Kingdom of God, you MUST BE
BORN AGAIN)
Being born again wouldn't be a hindrance.
Being born again is a hindrance because you choose to follow MEN,
rather than God.

JN 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,

that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.<

[ You MUST be born again; and YOU aren't interested. ]

17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,

but to save the world through him. <
v
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not
believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the
name of God's one and only Son.
^
v
19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved
darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
^
20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the
light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by
the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that
what he has done has been done through God."

My, my.

...and you don't see a small difficulty with that?

I see a problem with you putting words in my mouth.

(it WAS the custom), and He danced with FEMALES (at LEAST with His
mother and His sisters!

Er....I don't know if it was the custom to dance with members of the
opposite sex, sir.

Correct: You do not know.

You evidently haven't been to many Jewish weddings or Barmitzphas.

That's "bar mitzvah," you blithering idiot.

^ ^ ^ Wow! That's civil.
Clean up your attitude, or we can stop communicating with this post.
You've been corrected about that

a couple of times now.

Not that I was aware of. If you are of the false impression that I
read your every post, and hang on your every word-- your every gem--
be corrected. I do not.
No, I haven't been to many Jewish weddings or Bar

mitzvahs. Or Bat mitzvahs. In fact, I haven't been to any. However, my
daughter works for an Orthodox Jew, and she not only has been to many, she's
organized more than a few...and trust me on this one. Orthodox jews do not
dance with members of the opposite sex at weddings. In fact, the sexes are
separated by a curtain.

That's contrary to the information I have been given.

Certainly Orthodox Jews don't mix sexes in the dance NOW.

I don't recall it ever being said that Jesus was "orthodox."

Oh, good grief. What, you think He was Reformed, Conservative or Humanistic?

That was never spelled out.
Scripture doesn't specify, so I doubt seriously if "your sources"
have better information than I do.

The point behind Orthodoxy is that they keep, as much as is possible, the
customs of the time when there was a Temple. You know, the time of Jesus.

^ ^ ^ ^ Thanks for clarifying that. No, I was not aware that there
was a temple in Jesus' day.
That's why His statement, "Destroy this Temple, and in 3 days, I will
rebuild it" always puzzled me.
The "cleansing of the Temple" scenario also always confused me.
"How could He have cleansed the Temple-- or destroyed it? There was
no temple!"

There is a great deal of speculation that Jesus may have been very
influenced by the Essenes---in which case you KNOW that He never danced with
a woman.

Key word: "Speculation."

john, don't you ever do any research? Really?

?????? I could perhaps ask you the same question. Likely, you
trust the contents of the Internet FAR more than I do.
I trust my scholars. And frankly-- as I tried to indicate-- I could
certainly be wrong about Jesus dancing with women.
I don't recall that topic ever coming up at church OR in seminary.
It was my understanding that He did.
It's not an issue I wish to get hung up on.
Is THAT clear enough?

I get the distinct impression from scripture (COULD be wrong,
certainly) that He partook in many / most of the customs of His day.

CUSTOMS. Not just observing the written law.

Careful there. The CUSTOM of the day was that any young male Jew of Jesus'
age had to be married.

"Careful?" I said "He partook in MANY/ MOST..." I didn't say
"all."
Indeed, it was unheard of for an unmarried Jew to

I believe I said, "He partook in MANY / MOST..." I didn't say

you have no clue what you just said.

I am born again; I believe you follow "false gods."

john, john....you honestly believe that you are 'born again,' and consider
yourself better than me?

???? "Better than you?" I don't believe I used those words. Nor
was that my intent.

No? In what, then, are we not 'equal'?

Are you going to truly start the New Year by
putting words in people's mouths, intent in their hearts?

tsk tsk

I am born again; you are not.

You know that, do you?
<snip preaching to>

That's "bar mitzvah," you blithering idiot.

^ ^ ^ Wow! That's civil.

That's earned. If you are going to correct my grammar and spelling, you
cannot afford to goof up yourself, even once.

Clean up your attitude, or we can stop communicating with this post.

Promise?

You've been corrected about that

a couple of times now.

Not that I was aware of.

Liar.

If you are of the false impression that I
read your every post, and hang on your every word-- your every gem--
be corrected. I do not.

I didn't say that *I* had corrected you.

No, I haven't been to many Jewish weddings or Bar

mitzvahs. Or Bat mitzvahs. In fact, I haven't been to any. However, my
daughter works for an Orthodox Jew, and she not only has been to many,
she's
organized more than a few...and trust me on this one. Orthodox jews do not
dance with members of the opposite sex at weddings. In fact, the sexes are
separated by a curtain.

That's contrary to the information I have been given.

Consider yourself corrected.

Certainly Orthodox Jews don't mix sexes in the dance NOW.

I don't recall it ever being said that Jesus was "orthodox."

Oh, good grief. What, you think He was Reformed, Conservative or
Humanistic?

That was never spelled out.

Scripture doesn't specify, so I doubt seriously if "your sources"
have better information than I do.

john, I am quite aware of your doubts. I discount them.

The point behind Orthodoxy is that they keep, as much as is possible, the
customs of the time when there was a Temple. You know, the time of Jesus.

^ ^ ^ ^ Thanks for clarifying that. No, I was not aware that there
was a temple in Jesus' day.

You are kidding, right?
(He's kidding, right?)

That's why His statement, "Destroy this Temple, and in 3 days, I will
rebuild it" always puzzled me.

The "cleansing of the Temple" scenario also always confused me.

"How could He have cleansed the Temple-- or destroyed it? There was
no temple!"

Oh. My. He's not kidding.
Yes, john, there was a temple. It wasn't destroyed until 70 AD, by the
Romans. Here; go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_in_Jerusalem and
read all about it. I think that Wikipedia is good for you.

There is a great deal of speculation that Jesus may have been very
influenced by the Essenes---in which case you KNOW that He never danced
with
a woman.

Key word: "Speculation."

john, don't you ever do any research? Really?

I was correct. You don't do any research.

?????? I could perhaps ask you the same question. Likely, you
trust the contents of the Internet FAR more than I do.

What, is your watchword "If it's on the internet, it's NOT true?" john, Go
to your library. open a real book. You will STILL find out that the second
Temple, authorized and built by Cyrus and renovated by Herod, existed and
was accepted by the Jews...and by JESUS, who was extremely upset at its
desecration...existed during His life.

Ah. You have to admit that you were wrong, and you don't much like the idea,
so you want to move on now.
OK.

"all."

Indeed, it was unheard of for an unmarried Jew to

preach in the synagogues, yet He did. Are you going to claim now that He
had
to have been married?

I believe I said, "He partook in MANY / MOST..." I didn't say
"all."

You are truly NOT a detail person, are you?

Oh. If that's the problem, that's an easy fix. You can't killfile with
google.
If you are using Outlook Express, you open the message from the person you
want to killfile, go up to the top toolbar to the word 'message,' select
'block sender,' and you've done it.
I believe that the operation for most other usenet readers is fairly
similar.
I hope that helped you.

Yes, you do. True, I am being entertained, but quite frankly, baiting you is
an unworthy use of anybody's time; it's a little like tying cans to the
tails of really poisonous lizards; it may be easy, the lizard may fall for
it every time, and it may even save lives because the lizard is too busy
with the can to go after an innocent. However, ultimately it is beneath one.
The trouble is, I can't seem to resist the temptation.
Therefore, if I have given you the tools to remove yourself from my
temptation, I will be very happy for it.

(laughing very hard.....) You are an endless source of amusement, john.

:-) Why, Thank you!
I hear that a lot.
People tell me constantly how I make them laugh.

I

just wish you understood what the funny part is.

tsk tsk. Your delusions return!

I really hate knowing that

you have no clue what you just said.

smirk.

I am born again; I believe you follow "false gods."

john, john....you honestly believe that you are 'born again,' and
consider
yourself better than me?

???? "Better than you?" I don't believe I used those words. Nor
was that my intent.

No? In what, then, are we not 'equal'?

I believe I made that CRYSTAL clear.

As clever as you OBVIOUSLY are (cracking jokes I don't get), I'm
surprised that you would say such!

Are you going to truly start the New Year by
putting words in people's mouths, intent in their hearts?

tsk tsk

I am born again; you are not.

You know that, do you?

I KNOW that if you are a Mormon, you are not born again. I know more
than you may think I know about Mormon dogma.

<snip preaching to>

^ ^ ^ ^ Now, THAT ^ wasn't polite!

That's "bar mitzvah," you blithering idiot.

^ ^ ^ Wow! That's civil.

That's earned.

smirk. So, now you are judge, jury, executioner?

Last I looked, He is the Judge!

I see NO scripture where He appointed you, or stepped down!

If you are going to correct my grammar and spelling, you

cannot afford to goof up yourself, even once.

no one's perfect, except.. MAYBE you!

Clean up your attitude, or we can stop communicating with this post.

Promise?

Absolutely!

And since that seemed as snippy as before,

G'bye!

I AM a man of my word.

We'll see.
