Death Destroyed |
Melito of Sardis: "Who will contend against me? Let him
stand before me. It is I who delivered the condemned.
It is I who gave life to the dead. It is I who raised up
the buried. Who will argue with me? It is I, says Christ,
who destroyed death. It is I who triumphed over the
enemy, and having trod down Hades, and bound the
Strong Man, and have snatched mankind up to the
heights of heaven."
St. Athanasius: "Now, however, that the devil, that tyrant
against the whole world, is slain, we do not approach a
temporal feast, my beloved, but an eternal and heavenly.
Not in shadows do we shew it forth, but we come to it in
truth. For they being filled with the flesh of a dumb lamb,
accomplished the feast, and having anointed their door-posts
with the blood, implored aid against the destroyer. For
no more does death reign; but instead of death henceforth
is life, since our Lord said, 'I am the life;' so that
everything is filled with joy and gladness; as it is
written, 'The Lord reigneth, let the earth rejoice.'
For when death reigned, 'sitting down by the rivers of
Babylon, we wept,' and mourned, because we felt the
bitterness of captivity; but now that death and the kingdom
of the devil is abolished, everything is entirely filled
with joy and gladness. And God is no longer known only
in Judaea, but in all the earth, 'their voice hath gone
forth, and the knowledge of Him hath filled all the earth.'
(Letter 256, Part 3)
Odes of Solomon: "Because He is my Sun and His rays have
lifted me up and His light hath dispelled all darkness from
my face. In Him I have acquired eyes and have seen His holy
day: The way of error I have left, and have walked towards
Him and have received salvation from Him, without grudging.
I have put on incorruption through His name: and have put
off corruption by His grace. Death hath been destroyed
before my face: and Sheol bath been abolished by my word."

The reign of death ended with the giving of the law: "death reigned from

not all accepted the sacrifice and the gift of eternal life, allowing death
to linger to the end of the world to come, and it is the last thing
destroyed at the judgrment before the new heaven and new earth.: "The last
enemy that shall be destroyed is death" (1 Cor. 15:26).

So the people who lived until Moses had no chance to overcome death, but
when God gave the law, people could try to overcome death by keeping it,
and it was written on the hearts oft hose whom He called His. :-) But
keeping the law is impossible for humans. Only Jesus could keep it, and
as He gave himself as a sacrifice for our sins, He, who was without sin,
we no longer live under the law but under God's grace. I cannot
understand why people reject His free gift of eternal life to them while
there is nothing they have to do but believe in Him, trust Him. They all
prefer death as it seems...
But God said that He sent His Son for all the people. Why do they not
just rejoice and be happy about it?
For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that
whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For
God didn't send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the
world should be saved through him. (John 3:16-17 WEB)

the pit (Ezek 26:20) died in sin before the law was given. That is why Satan
tried to claim the body of Moses (Jude 1:9). With the giving of the law,
death was deferred to the Judgment, and Satan's claim to Moses' body was
rebuked. In the meantime the price was paid at the cross. If interessed, for

Did not God bury Moses Himself? That must have annoyed Satan. Wait a
minute... There, I have found that passage...
And the LORD said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham,
unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have
caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over
thither. So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of
Moab, according to the word of the LORD. And he buried him in a valley
in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his
sepulchre unto this day. (Deuteronomy 34:4-6 KJV)
Now I know why the Lord buried him Himself at a place which only he knew
about...
I don't understand not accepting the gift either, and the time will
come when they will wonder too.
True, but then it will be too late. They should start to seek God now,
as long as there is time for that.
But God said that He sent His Son for all the people. Why do they
not just rejoice and be happy about it?

That judgment was coming was already established, and the Lord came

Oh yes, now I see. It was still a result of the disobedience of men in
Paradise. But God has never stopped to love his creatures. We must learn
to listen to God and seek His voice in the silence, and in all the
noise.

Strange that people have kept on dying over the past 20 centuries.
"Death" is not a person or thing that can be "destroyed. It is just a
ridiculous myth to comfort believers who fear death. -- L.

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself
up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every
thought to make it obedient to Christ. †2 Corinthians 10:5
Christ died for our sins, and God raised Him from the dead.
Rely on this work alone to escape hell and receive eternal
life (Jn. 3:16; 1 Cor. 15:1-3; Eph. 2:8-10; 2 Thess. 1:8-9).

Correct. =20
I second that ... also Correct and now it's our turn to join in the
fight and make our stand.
Eph 6:10 For the rest, my brothers, be strong in the Master and in the
mightiness of His strength.
Eph 6:11 Put on the complete armour of Elohim, for you to have power
to stand against the schemes of the devil.
Eph 6:12 Because we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but
against principalities, against authorities, against the world-rulers
of the darkness of this age, against spiritual matters of wickedness
in the heavenlies.
Eph 6:13 Because of this, take up the complete armour of Elohim, so
that you have power to withstand in the wicked day, and having done
all, to stand.
Eph 6:14 Stand, then, having girded your waist with truth, and having
put on the breastplate of righteousness,
Eph 6:15 and having fitted your feet with the preparation of the Good
News of peace;
Eph 6:16 above all, having taken up the shield of belief with which
you shall have power to quench all the burning arrows of the wicked
one.
Eph 6:17 Take also the helmet of deliverance, and the sword of the
Spirit, which is the Word of Elohim,1 Footnote: 1Isa. 59:21.
Eph 6:18 praying at all times, with all prayer and supplication in the
Spirit, watching in all perseverance and supplication for all the set-
apart ones;
Eph 6:19 also for me, that a word might be given to me in the opening
of my mouth, to be bold in making known the secret of the Good News,
Eph 6:20 for which I am an envoy in chains, that in it I might speak
boldly, as I should speak.

written, 'The Lord reigneth, let the earth rejoice.'
1 Corinthians 15:53-54 plainly states that when believer's
mortal, corruptible bodies put on immortality and
incorruption, that will be the fulfillment of the saying that
death is swallowed up in victory. The whole context of the
chapter clearly, repeatedly, and indisputably shows it is
referring to the resurrection/transformation of their physical
bodies.

Yes Randy, if you just keep saying the words,
"plainly states", time will stop, go in reverse
and all people will align themselves with you,
since no other interpretation is possible!
If you have an argument with the concept that
death has been destroyed, go argue with these
men that I quoted. As for me, I cannot believe
that someone who preaches that when we die
physically, that we go to Heaven and then says
something so ridiculous as the idea that it isn't
forever and that our goal is to have human
bodies again!
But hey, it's your life! Believe what you want!
The bottom line is, you don't like it that I am
providing proof that my beliefs do go all the
way back to the most ancient church! And
your big name Futurist buddies who write
books know that, which is why the best they
can come up with is, "The Apostles did indeed
ex[ect the return of Christ within their lifetime.
However, they were in error about this. Oh,
and by the way, the Bible is without error.".

Christ already positionally defeated angelic hosts on the
cross, yet Paul still warned believer's to pray because we
wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual
forces. Believers already had eternal life for their souls,
yet were offered the prospect of a resurrection from the dead.
The destruction of Jerusalem, in A.D. 70, did nothing to
change, contribute to, or define believer's spiritual position
or benefits in Christ, or the condition of the angelic realm.

Pagan Sun worshipping.. Gotta love this garbage.. "Because He is my
Sun"
Oh and it never does say that the devil is slain in the real
scriptures, "that tyrant
against the whole world, is slain"... another pagan that never made the grade..
Rev 20:2 And he seized the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the
Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years,
Rev 20:3 and he threw him into the pit of the deep, and shut him up,
and set a seal on him, so that he should lead the nations no more
astray until the thousand years were ended. And after that he has to
be released for a little while.
