Protesting at the memorial of a soldier would be an outrageous act
against all decency, and we were happy to see that the Rev. Fred
Phelps and his followers at the Westboro Baptist Church failed to show
at Marion’s funeral. Phelps had planned to use the funeral as a
backdrop for a protest. The group says the deaths in Iraq are God’s
punishment of America for tolerating homosexuality.
