Definition of a false prophet
To read the Bible in one year, today Read: Revelations 13-15
To Know:
³Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that
leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is
narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are
few.² (Matt, 7:13,14)
The crowd swept us toward a specious gate. Hundreds were streaming through.
The entrance opened into a courtyard behind the Pope¹s private chapel. It
was a Wednesday and we had tickets for the weekly audience of Paul IV. As we
neared gate A we double-checked our tickets. The one we had were for Gate C.
Gate C was quite a distance down the wall. After we passed Gate B we were
walking alone.
Gate A was the easiest to enter. No one was checking tickets. Gate C, on the
other hand, was closely guarded.
This gate did not lead to a courtyard; instead, it leads into the very
presence of the Pope himself. When we stepped into the chapel it was just
beginning to fill up with the dignitaries of the church. When the Pope
finally entered, we were so close to the pontiff that he practically brushed
by us. Obviously this particular gate was restricted for a select few.
Jesus warns the world not to be swept along by the crowd. There is a wide
gate toward which every natural man is being driven. Beyond that gate waits
certain destruction. There is another gate. It is Jesus himself. Whoever
goes into the presence of God by faith in Jesus Christ will live forever.
To Do:
There are preachers and teachers that urge us to reject Jesus¹ claim to be
the worlds only hope. These are false prophets.
To Ask:
Father, thank you that there is a narrow gate.
