Yeah, the "miracle of life" usually goes nowhere (more than 50% of all
conceptions abort naturally). Unfortunately many of the design defects are
not
bad enough to prevent a live birth, just bad enough to prevent a happy
viable
human being. 1 out of every 28 live births has a serious birth defect
according
to The March of Dimes.

My wife and I have a friend whose niece just recently gave birth to a
baby.
After a while they noticed some oddities and the doctors examined it a bit
closely. Found out it was deaf in one ear and had some serious organ
failures
and problems that would have been fatal if not treated surgically very
soon, so
they rushed the baby into surgery. After the baby was out of surgery a few
days
they were able to bring it home. But the baby would cry as loud and as
hard as
it could continuously. In fact it was very difficult to even feed the baby
because the crying would cause the baby to gag on it's bottle. A little
while
later they realized something even more serious was wrong with the baby
when
the doctors did some cat-scans of the baby's head. It turns out that the
baby
is brain-dead because of severe calcification of the brain. This baby will
never recognize it's parents, never have any significant cognitive
function at
all, except apparently either a short-circuited crying mechanism or the
perception of extreme pain. It will be a vegetable indefinitely.

Apparently this baby's problems were the result of a very common virus,
called
the HPV virus. Usually it doesn't cause this kind of birth defect but in a
small minority of cases it does. This virus is the second leading cause of
calcification of the brain in babies, behind toxoplasmosis.

Needless to say the parents are emotionally devastated. This was their
first
child, after she had survived a harrowing Thyroid cancer right as they got
married.

If I thought there was a being that could have prevented this but didn't,
I'd
tell him to go ***** himself.
