Object: Did Huckabee State or Deny Baptist Position on Creation?
In the New Hampshire debate tonight, the following occurred:
MR. FAHEY:
.. . .
Governor Huckabee, at a previous debate, you and two of your
colleagues indicated that you do not believe in evolution. You're an
ordained minister. What do you believe? Is it the story of creation as
it is reported in the Bible or described in the Bible?
MR. HUCKABEE:
.. . .
I believe there is a God who was active in the creation process. Now,
how did he do it, and when did he do it, and how long did he take? I
don't honestly know, and I don't think knowing that would make me a
better or a worse president.
I thought Southern Baptists were firmly committed to inerrancy and the
six day creation in Genesis. Yet instead of saying six days, Huckabee
said he didn't know.
Is Huckabee deviating from Baptist orthodoxy?

I thought Southern Baptists were firmly committed to inerrancy and the
six day creation in Genesis. Yet instead of saying six days, Huckabee
said he didn't know.

Is Huckabee deviating from Baptist orthodoxy?

Technically, yes he is, but the Southern Baptists do not require
absolute following of their published doctrine. I believe they
probably had a vote on it and the creationist doctrine won.
I personally believe that the bible is inerrant, however,
we are still under the curse of Babel.
Our language keeps changing and sometimes our best efforts fall short.
I believe if we ever were able to translate the original correctly,
and understand it correctly, then it would be inerrant.
Check out Gerald Schroeders writings. He believes the
Old Testament's account and science are "BOTH" correct.
He is a physicist and a botanist.
He is not a christian, he is Jewish.

I believe both sides still have a lot to learn, but in the end,
we will be in complete agreement.
Have a good day!
