False Prophecy |
2 Peter 1:16
For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known
unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were
eyewitnesses of his majesty.
2 Peter 1:17
For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came
such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son,
in whom I am well pleased.
2 Peter 1:18
And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him
in the holy mount.
2 Peter 1:19
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that
ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the
day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
2 Peter 1:20
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any
private interpretation.
2 Peter 1:21
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men
of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost.
I have always wanted to hear God say to me "This is my beloved son in
whom I am well pleased." In Jesus case, the apostles heard the voice.
I would be happy to hear it even if no one else did. But, we have
something that is more sure than what God said to Jesus Christ. We
have the word of God.
The usages of "prophecy" is the words spoken by God directly to Jesus
or to us through holy men of God. Prophecy is one of the
manifestations of the spirit and the context bears out that the
prophecy spoken of in the above verses refers to revelation received
by word of knowledge.
Holy men of God received revelation from God and in turn "spake" the
words that God wanted spoken and because those words came from God
through holy men of God, they are holy words and are not to be
privately interpreted. The word "privately" from "idios" means "ones
one" and the word "interpretation" from "epilusis" means
"interpretation" or "explanation." The first thing that we have to
know is that the prophecy of the scriptures are not to be of one's own
interpretation.
The private interpretation does not relate to the holy men of God, it
relates to those who receive it. The holy men of God could not be the
ones to privately interpret the scriptures because they were given
verbatim via revelation.
I am not Catholic and never have been, but the Pope has been sick
lately. There are those who say that the Pope is the Anti-Christ.
There are those that spend a lot of time saying what the prophecies in
the Bible mean. These are people that "privately interpret" the
scriptures which is made up of prophecies in violation of the precepts
contained in the above verses.
You see all kinds of posts on Usenet where people say that the Bible
foretells this and foretells that and you also see the arguments that
result from such posts. Why do people do this? What is their
motivation for making guesses about will happen in the future? Why is
the book of Revelation so important to believers who live today when
what it reveals are a lot of future events that have no immediate
effect on the church of the body of Christ? Revelation is not even
written to the church of the body. It is there for us to learn from,
but for the most part is not for our application. We can not do most
of what the book of Revelation reveals. We are supposed to be doers
of the word. So "do" what Revelation says to do. You can't, nor can
I because the time has not come for those things to be done and
certainly not with the bodies we have now.
I want to take us back to Christian 101 and remind people of things
they should already know.
Revelation 1:1
The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto
his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and
signified [it] by his angel unto his servant John:
It is written to the servants of Jesus Christ. Which servants?
Revelation 1:4
John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace [be] unto you, and
peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and
from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;
More specifically it is written to the seven churches which are in
Asia. In what period of time do these churches exist - past, present,
or future?
Revelation 1:10
I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great
voice, as of a trumpet,
When is the Lord's day? It is not Saturday or Sunday as the context
bears out. It is a period of time that occurs after "a great voice,
as of a trumpet." The word "behind" relates to time, not place. When
does the "a great voice, as of a trumpet" take place?
1 Thessalonians 4:13
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them
which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no
hope.
1 Thessalonians 4:14
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also
which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
1 Thessalonians 4:15
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are
alive [and] remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them
which are asleep.
1 Thessalonians 4:16
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the
voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in
Christ shall rise first:
1 Thessalonians 4:17
Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with
them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever
be with the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 4:18
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
It takes place when the Lord Jesus Christ returns "for" His church.
Revelation speaks about when the Lord Jesus Christ comes "with" His
saints and other events that take place after the Lord Jesus Christ
gathers together the church of the body. So what about all the stuff
people say about the prophecies, etc.? They can say whatever they
want, but I am a Christian and will be off this mud ball before the
events take place. Look at the following verses.
2 Thessalonians 2:1
Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and [by] our gathering together unto him,
2 Thessalonians 2:2
That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit,
nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at
hand.
2 Thessalonians 2:3
Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come],
except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be
revealed, the son of perdition;
2 Thessalonians 2:4
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or
that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God,
shewing himself that he is God.
The words "a falling away" in verse three are translated from the
Greek word "apostasia" which means "a defection," "a forsaking," "an
apostasy." Bibles preceding the King James Version (Crammer Bible in
1537, Tyndale Bible in 1539, and the Geneva Bible 1560) translated
the words "a departure first." The son of perdition will be revealed
after "a defection first," or after "a departure first."
Verse one speaks of the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our
gathering together unto him. We are not supposed to be concerned
about or deceived about the day of Christ being at hand. Why? The
day of the Lord is the day of Christ and takes place after the coming
of the Lord "for" His church. We will be gone when the son of
perdition is revealed. There must be a departure first of the church
of the body before the son of perdition is revealed.
But what about all the stuff that is said about the Pope or others
being the Anti-Christ? Well, if he is not revealed until after the
coming of Christ for His church how would anyone know who it is? I do
not think it is very smart to call a brother or sister in Christ the
Anti-Christ - kind of falls under the category of sin. The spirit of
anti-Christ is another matter and has been working since the time of
Christ. Also, Satan does not know when Christ will come for the
church and must have a candidate to be the Anti-Christ. But no one
knows who that candidate might be.
How many people have wrongly divided the word of truth when it comes
to prophecy? Many people have come up with all kinds of doom and
gloom theories that are contrary to what the Word of God says.
People should use the common sense approach when they read the Bible.
Only God knows what will happen in the future. No one else knows the
future unless God reveals it to him. That means that Satan does not
know what will happen in the future. Many of the prophecies in the
Word are not understood or known until after they come to pass. If a
man can understand or know what will happen and when it will happen;
Satan can know it, too. If you read the Word of God you will pick up
on the fact that God keeps a lot of information from Satan until it is
too late for him to use the information. I pay very little attention
to people's interpretation of prophecy because the Bible says we are
not to interpret prophecy.
I am not talking about expounding the scriptures because we are
supposed to do that. But expounding the scriptures does not mean that
you quote "Jesus wept," toss your Bible down and prance around yelling
and screaming at the congregation about them all going to hell because
they didn't tithe enough - and then telling everyone you got
revelation and was prophesying.
Expounding the scriptures is not going on a rant about God and Magog,
the Pope being Catholic and Kermit the frogs involvement with the CIA
in a plot to burn down Baptist churches in the south.
Remember these verses?
Ephesians 4:11
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists;
and some, pastors and teachers;
Ephesians 4:12
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for
the edifying of the body of Christ:
And what context do they set in?
Ephesians 4:1
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy
of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
Ephesians 4:2
With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one
another in love;
Ephesians 4:3
Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Ephesians 4:4
[There is] one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope
of your calling;
Ephesians 4:5
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
Ephesians 4:6
One God and Father of all, who [is] above all, and through all, and in
you all.
The Word of God is for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of
the ministry, and for the edifying of the body of Christ. We are the
body of Christ and are supposed to walk as Christ walked. How much of
Christ's time was spent predicting the future and when he did speak of
the future who did he discuss it with? He discussed it with trained
mature disciples that had a need to know.
What I have been seeing is believers fighting over guesswork.
Believers professing themselves to be wise and becoming fools in view
of new converts and in full view of those that are the enemies of God
who attack the new converts. If the shoe don't fit don't put it on,
but if you are giving the enemies of God ammunition with which to pull
new converts away from the Word, then please turn off your computer.
We all love God in our own ways and we all show God our love in our
own ways and we all want God to be proud of us. All I am saying is
that we need to be more thoughtful about how what we write affects the
body of Christ. What we right should edify the body even if it is in
the form of reproof.

Prophecy 101 Study
ftp://\guest:guest@65.13.76.157/bibleweb/prophecy101/index.html
What is the World Coming To?
The Bible contains 8,362 predictive verses about 737 different matters and yet
prophecy is one of the most neglected subjects in the Church today. Understanding
prophecy is an essential and fundamental issue for every serious Christian.
But where do we start?
This teaching series has been designed to give you a strategic overview of prophecy;
past, present and future. This series will encourage the new believer and strengthen
the faith of all who study it. Now, more than ever, it is important that we have
answers for people who are seeking the truth. We need to equip ourselves to be ready
to give an answer to every man for the hope that lies within us.

The Rapture Study
ftp://\guest:guest@65.13.76.157/bibleweb/cbsc-the-rapture.sht
There continue to be many questions concerning the "Rapture" of the Church and
its apparent contrast with the "Second Coming" of Jesus Christ. Where does this
strange view come from? Is the term "rapture" even in the Bible?
Clearly, the idea of the Rapture can be considered the most preposterous belief
in Biblical Christianity. The situation regarding the doctrine of the Rapture
is painfully similar to the famous quote by Dr. Richard Feynman, speaking of
quantum physics:
I think it is safe to say that no one understands quantum mechanics...
in fact, it is often stated of all the theories proposed in this century,
the silliest is quantum theory. Some say that the only thing that quantum
theory has going for it, in fact, is that it is unquestionably correct.

prophecy spoken of in the above verses refers to revelation received
by word of knowledge.
John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace [be] unto you, and
peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and
from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;
Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come],
except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be
revealed, the son of perdition;
If a
man can understand or know what will happen and when it will happen;
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists;
and some, pastors and teachers;
With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one
another in love;
Ephesians 4:3
Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Ephesians 4:4
[There is] one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope
of your calling;

Clearly, the idea of the Rapture can be considered the most preposterous belief

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any
private interpretation.

The above links are to media files and the download speed is way too
slow. Download speed is less than 2K/s. I am pulling in other files
at almost 500K/s. Maybe there is too much traffic.
Got anything in writing?
Thanks
BB
