Jeb Bush
intervenes
Florida governor signs last-minute
legislation, orders feeding tube restored
to Terri Schiavo

With only a few hours remaining before she
slips beyond the point where she can be saved,...

Hopefully NOT, for HER sake. Especially if she has conscious
awareness, and is TRAPPED in the interminable and unthinkable
**hell** and **torment** of knowing what's going on, and being totally
unable to respond. Hour upon hour, day after day, month after month, for
13 long YEARS already. And **now**, thanks to a collection of mindless
and selfish assholes, NO relief from that in sight! What a ***HORRIBLE***
condition that would be!

Florida lawmakers delivered Gov. Jeb Bush
legislation empowering him to order Terri
Schindler-Schiavo's feeding tube reinserted and
the governor signed and implemented the ...
law two hours later.

Thus PROVING that both the majority of Florida's legislators AND
our Warmonger-in-Thief's unscrupulous brother are inhuman and cruel,
total horses' asses!
I guess there's no surprise THERE!

Good, now it is time to arrest the Husband, his lawyer, and that
idiot judge and have them charged with attempted murder, and
conspiracy to commit murder.

Right on.

ROTFL!!!! Two peas in the same loathesome, bigoted,

We are not the one's who want to starve another human to death.

Who cares what we want, what about what Terri wants... or should I say
*would* want?

Why don't you ask her? She's not braindead or uncounscious.

Why do more men than women support legal abortion? Abortion is a man's
best friend. It enables him to pressure his woman to kill her offspring
and allows her man to enjoy sex without consequences. Abortion. What a
beautiful choice.

I'm a little concerned by the belief that sex must be accompanied by a
consequence, or at least a consequence other than an orgasm.

Then you are a fool.

You are half right. She is not 'brain dead'. She has, on the other
hand, been unconscious for several years, and the medical testimony
says she will stay that way, with no hope of recovery.

Actually she is conscious, and doctors feel that she can be taught to feed
herself.

Have you seen the videos showing her not to be unconscious? Did you
notice where her blank look turned to a smile? Or how about her face
and eyes followed the balloon being moved passed her? And the medical
testimony you refer to is from court-appointed doctors, and their
testimony is countered by those doctors asked by the family to examine
Terry. So do the court-appointed doctors warrant more believability
than those the family consulted? Why not try and rehabilitate her,
something the husband has refused to do?

???. It laughs, it's a human being that has a life.

Better off erring on the side of life in this case. It's a pity the media

Still, it's no surprise to find the pro-aborts in here clamoring for the

further indicates your negativity and love for death.

If someone crosses the road safely at the same place hundreds of times
and then one time they happen to be knocked down whilst doing so that
this proves that crossing that road at that place is sure to knock

As such is the thinking of the pro-death nihilist.

Have you seen the videos showing her not to be unconscious?

I've seen them. They are consistent with her being unconscious - that is,
unaware of what's going on around her.

Did you
notice where her blank look turned to a smile?

Sure, PVS people reflexively smile, grimace, raise their eyebrows, roll
their eyes, make chewing movements, grunt and moan all the time. The point
is, would Terri have wanted to exist for decades and decades like that?
Thank goodness she *is* unconscious - if she were conscious and aware of her
state what a nightmare that would be. We do have laboriously-obtained
accounts from people who are suffering from "locked-in syndrome" - they are
as unable to speak or control their bodies as Terri, but are as fully
conscious as you and I. Their lives are a living hell, "appalling
suffering". They long for death.
Talk about irony: Terri's family say they want to bring her devices so that
she can communicate with them, perhaps by indicating a letter with her eyes.
Jean-Dominique Bauby, a Frenchman with locked-in syndrome, wrote an entire
book that way (shortly after which he mercifully died: "He notes that a
stroke such as his is usually fatal, but 'improved resuscitation techniques
have prolonged and refined the agony.'" ). Imagine Terri's likely first
sentence: FOR GOD'S SAKE LET ME GO!
Of course, she *won't* be able to communicate by making consistent eye
movements, but I'm sure her parents will interpret her random eye rollings
to assure us all how glad Terri is to be alive.

Or how about her face
and eyes followed the balloon being moved passed her?

Take a look at that video again. Why does the camera move in for a tight
shot of Terri's eyes rather than staying on the balloon? Undoubtedly
because that's when her eyes *stopped* following it. If they had been, the
camera would have been kept back far enough to see the balloon, the way it
is at the beginning.

And the medical
testimony you refer to is from court-appointed doctors, and their
testimony is countered by those doctors asked by the family to examine
Terry. So do the court-appointed doctors warrant more believability
than those the family consulted?

Yes. They have no axe to grind.

Why not try and rehabilitate her,
something the husband has refused to do?

She can't be rehabilitated. The only point in keeping her alive is to spare
her parents the grief of letting her go. After all, death is final and
there's nothing after it. Once Terri is dead, she's lost to her parents
forever. They will never see her again, and they are behaving just as
anyone would who realizes that and can't bear to say goodbye.
Now, of course, if her parents truly, viscerally believed in God and Heaven
and an afterlife, they wouldn't be making all this fuss. While no believer
would seek or cause death, certainly no believer would throw up so many
roadblocks when someone's in this condition either. Why not let death
restore Terri to her life and health and happiness immediately, in the sure
and certain knowledge that the Schindlers are going to be reunited with the
fully-living Terri soon? Why keep her trapped here in this shell of a body?
As Antonin Scalia said about the death penalty, "[T]he more Christian a
country is the less likely it is to regard the death penalty as immoral.
Abolition [of the death penalty] has taken its firmest hold in
post-Christian Europe, and has least support in the church-going United
States. I attribute that to the fact that, for the believing Christian,
death is no big deal. Intentionally killing an innocent person is a big
deal: it is a grave sin, which causes one to lose his soul. [In other
words, intentional killing is "a big deal" for the killers - *not* for the
person who's killed.] But losing this life, in exchange for the next? The
Christian attitude is reflected in the words Robert Bolt's play has Thomas
More saying to the headsman: 'Friend, be not afraid of your office. You send
me to God.' And when Cranmer asks whether he is sure of that, More replies,
'He will not refuse one who is so blithe to go to Him.' For the
nonbeliever, on the other hand, to deprive a man of his life is to end his
existence. What a horrible act!"
Now, then, who's behaving as if Terri Schiavo's death is "a horrible act"?
Since they certainly don't have Mr. Schiavo's soul as their concern, the
Schindlers must be nonbelievers by Scalia's logic. As someone else said in
a local paper recently, in a letter responding to a story in which another
self-named Christian described his successful efforts to avoid death after
an accident (including his own desperate prayers and those solicited from
others among the things resorted to), "Is there a Heaven or not? Religion
postulates no reward for suicide. But when God hands you a valid ticket to
Paradise, how is it everyone - even the devout - starts checking into later
flights? I'm experiencing a crisis in other people's faith."

Why wouldn't we just let nature take its course?

Because "we" place more value on human life than you losers do.

Right. Because you are terrified of death and consider depriving someone of
life "a horrible act" - for *that person*, instead of for the one doing the
depriving, as real Christians would.
And that's because you place no value on the afterlife. Is there a Heaven
or not? Terri Schiavo has a valid ticket to Paradise, doesn't she? She's
not committing suicide or doing anything else to put *her* immortal soul in
danger, and she's not even going to suffer when she dies. So why, oh why
are y'all kicking and screaming and trying to force her onto a much, much
later flight?
Somebody please explain. Maybe Antonin Scalia will, when he argues that the
Florida legislature's act is constitutional.

There sure is.

Such as?

That is why even the doctors cannot agree.

You can hire doctors to not agree about anything, even the most obvious
facts. The court-appointed neurologist, not chosen by either of the two
parties, wasn't in doubt.

This is a very tough case to call.

As I said before, Terri looks awfully good for someone in PVS for 13+ years.
She looks much better than Karen Ann Quinlan did by that time, for example.
But that can be explained by the better care she's been receiving. At best,
she has a few more centimeters of living cortex than the average PVS
patient. That still doesn't make her alive as Terri Schindler Schiavo. I
agree that it's going to be terribly hard for her parents to let her go.
However, it's also going to create terrible problems for ALL OF US if her
husband, her nearest relative and next of kin, isn't permitted to decide
what she would have wanted and have her wishes carried out.

But if we are to let people like Terri
go, the least we can do is give them a quick humane way out, not a slow
death by starvation.

I think the only time I've agreed with Charles Krauthammer (M.D.) is when he
says that we may need to continue to ban euthanasia so that doctors will
always do it - and they *will* always do it, as Krauthammer readily
acknowledges - with fear and trembling when they inject that extra bolus of
morphine or whatever.

Even if they cannot feel it, it is still inhumane.

Why? It's not "a slow death by starvation" with the emotional content that
implies. How many people have you seen die this way? I've seen many. They
simply fall deeper into coma with progressively fewer and shorter periods of
restlessness in between. It's hard on the onlookers because the patient's
body swells up due to organ failure, and because *they* are aware that
"death" is occuring, but it is certainly a peaceful death.
How many deaths of *any* kind have you seen? If few or none, you might want
to observe the typical American hospital death for a while before you wax so
enthusiastic about keeping people alive until the last possible moment.

As I said before, Terri looks awfully good for someone in PVS for 13+

years.
Some doctors claim she is not in a vegetative state.

She looks much better than Karen Ann Quinlan did by that time, for

example.

But that can be explained by the better care she's been receiving. At

best,
No, Karen really was PVS and required a vent to breath for her.

she has a few more centimeters of living cortex than the average PVS
patient. That still doesn't make her alive as Terri Schindler Schiavo.

No one is claiming that.
I

agree that it's going to be terribly hard for her parents to let her go.
However, it's also going to create terrible problems for ALL OF US if her
husband, her nearest relative and next of kin, isn't permitted to decide
what she would have wanted and have her wishes carried out.

That is the point. Her husband does not have her best interests in mind.
Terri was going to divorce him. He has no business making any decisions for
her. The way she was injured is suspicious at best and never fully
answered. Her husband has already moved on and started another family, he
has been asked repeatedly over the years to finish the divorce process, yet
because of Terri's money that he wasted, he always refused. And even now
after he wasted all her money that was supposed to have been used on her
care, he still will not leave her alone.

But if we are to let people like Terri
go, the least we can do is give them a quick humane way out, not a slow
death by starvation.

I think the only time I've agreed with Charles Krauthammer (M.D.) is when

he

says that we may need to continue to ban euthanasia so that doctors will
always do it - and they *will* always do it, as Krauthammer readily
acknowledges - with fear and trembling when they inject that extra bolus

of

morphine or whatever.

It should be legal. There is no reason to have someone suffer.

Even if they cannot feel it, it is still inhumane.

Why? It's not "a slow death by starvation" with the emotional content

that

implies.

It sure is. Since no one knows for sure what these people feel, it is better
we treat them in a more humane manner. As is evident by the video's of
terry, she does try to move away from irratants, hence she has some sense of
her surroundings, and she can register discomfort.

How many deaths of *any* kind have you seen? If few or none, you might

want

to observe the typical American hospital death for a while before you wax

so

enthusiastic about keeping people alive until the last possible moment.

No one is trying to do what you describe, except for those that oppose what
Dr Kervorkian was doing.
We are just saying that in regards to this case here, there is doubt among
the doctors about her condition, her husband has shown not to have her best
interests in mind, and that it has been her parents who have been providing
the majority of the care she has been receiving. Hence it is up to the blood
family if Terri should be let go.
My issue is with the starving to death. If a person is in a condition that
he/she has no chance of recovering from, there is nothing wrong with letting
them pass on in a more humane manner than either starving them to death, as
would be the case with Terri, or letting them sufficate like what happened
with Karen. We can be way more humane about it with these kind of patients.
And if I am not mistaken I think when Karen came off the vent, she was
breathing on her own for a while. Karen and Terri here are the two casses
that have caught the nations attention, both are very tragic and emotional
issues, with no real clear cut solution.

speed/pain/discomfort for the patient of the removal of the feeding tube
and the other legal method of withdrawl you are referring to but not
specifying above.

But if we are to let people like Terri
go, the least we can do is give them a quick humane way out, not a slow
death by starvation. Even if they cannot feel it, it is still inhumane.

So what method would you suggest that is 'humane'?

The same method that dr Kervokian uses.

And that legfal method is what, exactly?

The person justs slips away. Very humane to say the least.

And which legal process is this?

Better than
letting a person starve to death, a very slow painful process.

Yes, I did see the videos in question. There is nothing in them that's
inconsistent with PVS,

There sure is. That is why even the doctors cannot agree.

You're not a doctor.

This is a very tough case to call. But if we are to let people like Terri
go, the least we can do is give them a quick humane way out, not a slow
death by starvation. Even if they cannot feel it, it is still inhumane.

Killing people is a felony, otherwise known as murder.

Never claimed I was.

Yet your posts are presented by you as if you are writing as being
qualified and experienced as a medical doctor, even to the point of
disputing medical facts presented by people posting here who *are* so
qualified.
Why is that?
