Ok, here's the solution.
A judge, who happens to be named Solomon, says that what we will do is
take a power saw and divide the woman into two halves, sawing her in two
from head to crotch. Then we will give one half to the husband to do
what he likes with it, and the other half goes to the parents to nurture.
Predictably the husband will say, "Fine, sounds like a good plan to me."
But the parents certainly will say, horrified, "No, no, don't do that.
Just let the husband's original wishes be carried out."
Then the judge says, "Now I know who cares the most. The woman goes to
the parents to nurture."

Unlike a pet rock, I believe Terri may be able to feel and respond to
pain. She is not aware of her surroundings, however, nor will she
ever be. If you nuture a tomatoe plant it will grow and bring forth
tomatoes. What is the very best can her parents hope for? Nothing.

It is a sad tribute to modern medical
technology that we have kept her corpse alive over this period of
time. If a PVS patient does not recover within a few weeks, or at
most a few months, it is highly unlikely he or she will EVER recover.
NONE has ever recovered after this length of time.
Terri died 13 years ago. It is all over save for the funeral.

I don't know if that's the case here, or if Terri is in
some happy (?) state of oblivion because her brain is gone.
There was that case (and I'm going to have to find the
name) of an Asian (Japanese?) gentleman who managed to
write a book using nothing but his left eyelid and someone
to transcribe the movements. However, that was because of
a spinal cord injury IIRC, and the brain was still working.
I'm not sure if Terri's brain is in a similar state or not.

comparison of $600 for the abortion versus $120K
for rearing. However, that is counterbalanced by
the (eventual) gain of another worker in society,
another viewpoint, another human. The questions are
considerable, and I for one would want a lot more data
before I could begin to make a recommendation to not

by prolonging the agony -- namely, a bed and the medical
care associated therewith that could go to someone that
may be more deserving (although Terri's parents will of
course object strenuously to this line of thought, and

intelligence (but most likely not).
