Object: Getting into the Acts
In reading the "Cornelius Calls for Peter" - then "Peter Visits Cornelius",
and "The Gentiles Hear the Good News" out of Acts 10, I came away with an
understanding, again, that when God says something is good or if God says
something is acceptable, we are not to say it isn't...even if it is based on
"human" tradition/rules that we question God on. Hey...God is God...will
that finally sink in for us?
As the Scripture tells us, Peter went up to pray and fell into a trance. He
saw the sky open and a large sheet was let down. In the sheet were all
sorts of animals, reptiles and birds. Then a voice said to him, "Get up,
Peter, kill and eat them" He tells the Lord that never would he eat
anything forbidden by his Jewish laws. Then the voice spoke again "If God
says something is acceptable, don't say it isn't". This was repeated three
times.
At the same time, God is dealing with a Roman army officer named Cornelius,
who was a devout man, who feared God and gave generously to charity and who
regularly prayed to God...there is that "prayer" again - (the importance of
lifting things and others up to Him jumped out at me). So Cornelius has
Peter brought to his house, at which time Peter says the following:
"Peter told them, 'You know it is against the Jewish laws for me to come
into a Gentile home like this. But God has shown me that I should never
think of anyone as impure. [jumped out at me BIG time] So I came as soon as
I was sent for..."
Then the Gentiles hear, through Peter, the Good News of Jesus Christ and
receive the Holy Spirit.
A bit later on this Verse caught my eye as well. It is where Peter Explains
His Actions to the Jewish believers who criticized him for entering the
home of Gentiles...even eating with them.
Acts 11:9 "But the voice from heaven came again, 'If God says something is
acceptable, don't say it isn't'".
His peace, joy, and love to us,
:o)
