God talks to Gabiel and creates a planet |
'God, it's lonely up here,' said God to Gabriel. 'I don't mean that you are
God, Gabriel, when I say that. It's just a figure of speech. I am the only
God in the Universe. I know that for certain. No doubt about it. Doubting
doesn't come into my vocabulary.'
'I've always thought there was only one of you,' said Gabriel. 'But do you
think there could be another god somewhere who is invisible, so we don't
know where he is?'
'No, I would know' said God, firmly.
'But suppose he was in another universe?' suggested Gabriel.
God was briefly taken aback by Gabriel's lateral thinking, but soon realised
that he knew what Gabriel was going to say anyway. 'There isn't another
universe, or I would know about it,' he said, slightly irritated. 'Don't
forget, Gabriel, that I know everything your are thinking, so I am surprised
that you are even bothering to ask.'
'I'm asking because I don't know,' said Gabriel. 'What time is it, by the
way?'
'What do you want to know that for?' asked God. 'And where did you get to
hear that word 'Time'?'
'Well, once you said 'It's time I did something with this universe of
mine'.'
'If you must know,' said God, 'there isn't any time yet. Time is just a way
of measuring change, and nothing has changed up to now.'
Gabriel, not being the universe's greatest scientist (that was God), fell
silent. After a few moments he came back to God's own complaint about
loneliness. 'If you feel lonely, why don't you create another universe?
Then you could be the god of two universes.'
'Done,' said God. Gabriel looked round, expecting to see a clump of stars
where there was blackness before. 'You won't see the new universe,' said
God. 'It is in a different dimension.' 'Oh,' said Gabriel. 'But are you
less lonely now?'
'No,' snapped God. 'I would like more...People around me. To talk to.'
'You've got me,' said Gabriel.
'I always know what you are going to say,' said God.
'The same will apply if you create some more people. You will always know
what they are going to say,' said Gabriel. 'Look, God, you know everything.
You just have to put up with that. Nothing will every happen that you don't
know about. But look at me. I don't know everything. Don't you enjoy
telling me things I don't know?'
'Ha,' said God. 'I think I see what you are getting at. I could create
lots and lots of people. It wouldn't make any difference to me because I
would know everything about them. But I would give them the chance not to
know everything. Then they would have to explore, experiment, discover...'
'That's the idea,' said Gabriel. 'You would be giving them a qualities you
can never have: curiosity, challenge, pain.'
God saw a difficulty, but knew what Gabriel was going to say about it.
'You, Gabriel,' he said, 'are going to tell me that it is no good having all
these people right here, in this place you and I call heaven. .There'd be
nothing for them to do here. So I'll create a planet - done - where they
can live, and where they will be forced to struggle. It's a pity I know how
it's going to turn out, but they won't. They will experience what I cannot.
Let the project begin. I've created time on their planet, Gabriel; quite a
lot of it. They won't realise how lucky they are not knowing what's going
to happen.'
Gabriel couldn't resist a question. God held up the equivalent of a hand.
'Gabriel, I am not going to tell you how it will all finish. You will see
for yourself when the time comes.
Gabriel hoped it wouldn't be a long wait - not that he was sure what waiting
meant.

But how come god didn't know at the beginning that he was going to
create the planet?
If there was no time (nothing changed) how could God teach Gabrielle
anything?
It's a good try, but you can't really write a coherent story about an
incoherent concept (the Christian God thing).

The ones that learn by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence.
