GODıS WILL AND OURS
To Read: Isaiah 43-45
To Know:
³O Lord, my strength and my stronghold, my refuge in the day of trouble, to
thee shall the nations come from the ends of the earth and say: Our fathers
have inherited naught but lies, worthless things in which there is no
profit. Can man make for himself gods? Such are no gods!ı ı² (Jer.16: 19,20)
Professor John Nash was a brilliant thinker. He lived in his mind. Hollywood
entitled his story, ³A Beautiful Mind.² Nashıs mind betrayed him. This man
of genius became schizophrenic, creating his own reality. People and events
as real to him as the sun in the sky existed only in his mind. These
figments nearly destroyed him. When Nash learns not to believe his delusions
he decides to think them away. ³No,² he is warned. It is the very mind he
must use to think that has become his enemy.
To Do:
When Adam and Eve fell from Godıs favor they became the captives of the very
will by which they rebelled. Their will became enslaved to sin. When the
children came along, they reproduced themselves. We were all born in the
condition into which our first parents fell. Everyone is born with the
nature of his or her parents. We were born with an enslaved will. The work
of Jesus Christ was to set us free from our own will. The gospel of God is
the promise to free our will to follow Christ. This is a gift of God. We can
no more will ourselves back to God than John Nash could think himself back
to sanity.
