Object: HAPPY 31st ANNIVERSARY, Roe vs Wade!!!
January 22, 2004 ---
More than 3 decades since a BENEVOLENT U.S.
Supreme Court **emancipated** America's women!
Over that period of time, more than 35 million women
have been enabled, via the remedy of safe & legal abortion,
to put their lives BACK on track, and have their well-being
and full range of future opportunities RESTORED to PRE-
ill-timed-pregnancy levels.
And since the majority of those women were able to
defer childbirth until the timing was more opportune, thus
making it far more likely that it would be into a more stable
and loving environment, ALL of society has enormously
benefitted.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, Roe vs. Wade !!!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, Roe vs. Wade !!!

Over 44 million babies.

At LEAST! The ones born later on, as mentioned above.
The ONLY babies involved, since ALL *babies* have been
BORN. And they are all people who never would have existed
if their mothers *hadn't* had the abortions, earlier. Since by
doing so, those women's lives all were put on a different track
than would have been taken if they'd gestated-to-term the
first time, and those same sperm and ova would never have
met at the later date. It was one set of potential people or
the other. The odds for each one of those second-round
ones that *were* gestated, of having a good home environ-
ment than the ones that were not would have had, are better
in most cases.
Totally a WIN-WIN situation, all the way around!
All gain, and no loss, for all concerned.
Roe vs. Wade is very likely the BEST decision ever ren-
dered by the U.S. Supreme Court. Those Justices did for
women a benevolent act that was second only to Lincoln's
Emancipation Proclamation.
So again -- Happy Anniversary, Roe vs. Wade!

Essentials of Human Embryology (pp. 1-17): "In this text, we begin our
description of the developing human with the formation and
differentiation of the male and female sex cells or gametes, which
will unite at fertilization to initiate the embryonic development of a
new individual. ... Fertilization takes place in the oviduct ...
resulting in the formation of a zygote containing a single diploid
nucleus. Embryonic development is considered to begin at this point...
This moment of zygote formation may be taken as the beginning or zero
time point of embryonic development."

"We tried to avoid the women seeing them [the fetuses] They always
wanted to know the sex, but we lied and said it was too early to tell.
It's better for the women to think of the fetus as an 'it.'

"Vital signs should be observed regularly, and a Doppler [for listening
to the fetal heartbeat] inaudible to the patient should be used at
intervals to determine the presence or absence of fetal heart tones..
This [informed consent] is a controversial area, but most professionals
in the field feel that it is not advisable for patients to view the
products of conception, to be told the sex of the fetus, or to be
informed of a multiple pregnancy" --Abortionist Warren Hern in

By the 6th week after conception this system will have

Wade !!!

Over 44 million babies.

At LEAST! The ones born later on, as mentioned above.
The ONLY babies involved, since ALL *babies* have been
BORN.

<bullcrap-snip>

<Anti-Choice hate-propaganda-snip>

And they are all people who never would have existed
if their mothers *hadn't* had the abortions, earlier.

Hypothesis contrary to fact.

You don't possess much of a brain, do you?

<Anti-Choice hate-propaganda-snip>

I find that even the slightest degree of abstract thinking is
beyond the mental capabilities of just about ALL who are
ignorant enough to BE Anti-Choicers. And not complex abstract,
either. Abstract that any person having AVERAGE intelligence
would have NO difficulty at all in comprehending fully.

Essentials of Human Embryology (pp. 1-17): "In this text, we begin our
description of the developing human with the formation and
differentiation of the male and female sex cells or gametes, which
will unite at fertilization to initiate the embryonic development of a
new individual. ...

... which as the **same** DNA as did the two gametes that formed it,
*before* they merged, if the DNA is summed. And, of course, if one of
those two gametes; the sperm, for example -- were to be aborted *before*
that merging, then that particular, unique, person-to-be would NEVER be
born. Thus, male masturbation is FULLY as much a form of elective
abortion as are the medical types that *women* access -- with the SAME
end result: the prevention of the development of a UNIQUE potential
person.
Ironically, in their hateful zeal to defend a few more than
3,000 such potential people per day in the USA, the Anti-Choicers
*hypocritically* IGNORE the more than **quadrillion** unique,
potential people that are electively aborted by *men* during
that SAME period of time. (And then the wonder why they have
become America's National laughingstock to all SENSIBLE
people.)

Fertilization takes place in the oviduct ... resulting in the formation
of a zygote containing a single diploid nucleus. Embryonic develo-
ment is considered to begin at this point... This moment of zygote
formation may be taken as the beginning or zero time point of
embryonic development."

...but NOT of the development of any given particular person-to-be.
THAT began with the **formation** of his/her gametes in the repro-
ductive organs of his/her parents-to-be. (In line with what I just
pointed out above.) Gametes are Stage 1 of the reproductive process,
and fertilization is a necessary bridge to Stage 2 (zygote), but the
gametes are JUST as indispensible to the process as fertilization is.
Thus, if any person sought to DEFEND *potential* people (which
would be ludicrous), he would have to INCLUDE the gametes in that,
in order to avoid *also* being hypocritical. And per the article, th
zygote *does* immediately lead to the zero time point of **embryonic**
development, since the embryo is Stage 3 of the 4-stage reproductive
process... with "fetus" being stage 4, beginning about 2 months later.

- Larsen, W.J. 1998. Essentials of Human Embryology, Churchill
Livingstone, New York.

<Anti-Choice hate-propaganda snipped>

"Vital signs should be observed regularly, and a Doppler [for listening
to the fetal heartbeat] inaudible to the patient should be used at
intervals to determine the presence or absence of fetal heart tones..
This [informed consent] is a controversial area, but most professionals
in the field feel that it is not advisable for patients to view the
products of conception, to be told the sex of the fetus, or to be
informed of a multiple pregnancy" -- [Abortion provider] Warren Hern in
"Abortion Practice" J.B. Lippincott Company, 1984 pgs. 145 and 304.

Very logical, since the woman is there for an abortion so why
provide potential emotion-evoking information that's unnecessary...
unless she specifically ASKS for it? **Then**, she should be given
such additional, albeit irrelevant, details.

"Television interviews in particular should focus on the public issue
involved (right to confidential and professional medical care, freedom
of choice and so forth) and not on the specific details of the procedure."
-- [Abortion provider] Warren Hern, Abortion Practice p. 323.

Specific details of MANY types of surgeries are not provided to
patients beforehand unless they ASK for them. That's quite normal.

Since by doing so, those women's lives all were put on a
different track than would have been taken if they'd gestated-
to-term the first time, and those same sperm and ova would
never have met at the later date.

Hypothesis contrary to fact.

You don't possess much of a brain, do you? I find that even
the slightest degree of abstract thinking is beyond the mental
capabilities of just about ALL who are ignorrant enough to BE
Anti-Choicers. And not complex abstract, either. Abstract that
any person having AVERAGE intelligence woulf have NO
difficulty at all in comprehending fully.

<Material describing the reproductive process snipped. Irrelevant.
Everyone already knows about this process, no matter which side
of the debate they are on. And it has *nothing* do do with people
attempting to deny women the right not to got through that process,
if that is their choice. Red herring.>

The real liberation of women had little to do with feminist politics
but was, ironically, engineered by men who came up with antiseptic
medical procedures, later invented "the pill" and, meanwhile,
produced an endless array of household machines.
- Balint Vazsonyi

That was another red herring, but I left it in this time just so
readers could see that the snips I've been making are of **irrelevant**
TRIPE; red herrings. NO FACTS that supports being Anti-Choice.

It was one set of potential people or the other. The odds
for each one of those second-round ones that *were* gestated,
of having a good home environment than the ones that were
not would have had, are better in most cases.

Again, hypothesis contrary to fact.

<irrelevant red herring snipped>

THANKS for all of this further clear evidence of the OBTUSE-
NESS of Anti-Choicers/RRR cultists.

<irrelevant red herring snipped>

Argumentum ad misericordiam based on opinion.

Yep. Obtuse as hell. Typical. You can't even compre-
hend common-sense arguments solidly based in facts.

<Anti-Choice hate-propaganda URLs snipped. Garbage-up

hate-tripe in mine.>

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, Roe vs. Wade !!!

I'm all for legalized abortion but roe v wade was bad law. The
consitution never menions or implies anything about abortion. The
USSC just invented the constitutional right to an abortion. From a
legal standpoint it was every bit as bad as bush v gore. The abortion
issue should have been decided by the legislatures.

Why would you expect the Constitution to say anything about abortion?
Does the Constitution say anything about driving an automobile,
having cardiac surgery, or watching television? Of course not.
The purpose of the Constitution is not to identify rights that
individuals may or may not have. The purpose of the Constitution
is to put limits on the authority of government to intrude on our
lives. The Constitution is a set of rules for how our government
operates, not how private citizens behave.
Since the Constitution does not limit behavior of private indivuals.
This is why we have a right to privacy from the government and the
reason why government officials cannot just walk into someone's
home and search it without just cause.
The reason Woe v. Wade is a good decision is because it sets
a limit our government has into intruding on our private lives.

My point is that the Constitution does not list out any rights
that we individuals have. That's why nothing in the Constitution
refers to a right to have an abortion. Does this make sense to you?

to put their lives BACK on track, and have their well-being

And since the majority of those women were able to
defer childbirth until the timing was more opportune, thus
making it far more likely that it would be into a more stable
and loving environment, ALL of society has enormously
benefitted.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, Roe vs. Wade !!!

I'm all for legalized abortion but Roe vs. Wade was bad law. The
Consitution never mentions or implies anything about abortion. The
USSC just invented the constitutional right to an abortion. From a
legal standpoint it was every bit as bad as bush v gore. The abortion
issue should have been decided by the legislatures.

Lawrence McKnight made an excellent point in his response to
this post. But I'll add this:
The U.S. Supreme Court in empowered to test all laws that come
before it against the precepts contained within the U.S. Constitution.
When conflict between the law in question and the Constitution clearly
occurs, the Constitution wins... being the supreme law of the land. It
supercedes ALL ofther laws in the USA.
Roe vs. Wade wade decided primarily per the constitutional right
to privacy. IMO, it could *just* as easily have been decided the same
way by declaring that forcing women to gestate to term against their
will would be tantamount to putting them in a position of involuntary
servitude. Which *also* is unconstitutional. And a good point to
remember if a serious threat to abortion rights should ever arise.
The Roe vs. Wade decision wasn't "invention." It was legal and
sensible **interpretation.** It was totally-valid Judicial Law per the
Constitution's system of checks and balances.
And -- thank heaven for it!! SOME states, such as Utah, probably
would be repressive states yet TODAY, if the legislatures had needed to
deal with it. With luck, EQUALITY for same-sex couples being able to
marry soon will do for THEM what Roe vs. Wade did for women...
nationwide.

Again, the Constitution does not mention any individual rights. What
the Constitution does is put limits on how government can function;
it is a blueprint for government, not individuals.
For example, notice what the First Amendment says. It does not say
that individuals have a right to free speech. What it says is that
the government may make no laws infringing on free speech and that the
government may not establish any religion. It says nothing about
what individuals may do.
The Constitution does not say anything about limiting the government's
intrusion into our privacy directly, but it does refer to it indirectly.
The First Amendment is one such place where that happens.

Well Craig, it sure is an anniversary to remember.
Another anniversary will occur later this year, that of the Oregon State
Death with Dignity Bill,
Yes, I guess we'll see some of these fanatical anti-choice RRR cultists
jumping up and down how this is evil and wrong, but hey, what do they know
about women with truly unwanted pregnancies and those suffering agonizing
terminal illnesses?
If I had my way, barbiturates (a certain lethal variety of sleeping drug),
which are normally only available via prescription, would be sold over the
counter, no questions asked. This would then put the decision and power, as
to whether or not to end one's own life, into the hands of those who deem
themselves fit enough to decide - those who do not want to continue
suffering the final devastations of a terminal illness. Why should a doctor
decide whether one's life is worthwhile or not? Why should a doctor decide
whether a woman should terminate her pregnancy or not?
Sure, some irresponsible people may abuse these rights. Just because a few
people may abuse that right doesn't mean that we shouldn't have that right.
If we were denied a certain freedom because of the possible abuse of that
freedom we would have NO freedoms!

More than 3 decades since a BENEVOLENT U.S.
Supreme Court **emancipated** America's women!

For the most part that is indeed true.

Over that period of time, more than 35 million women
have been enabled, via the remedy of safe & legal abortion,
to put their lives BACK on track, and have their well-being
and full range of future opportunities RESTORED to PRE-
ill-timed-pregnancy levels.

Well, I guess we can all agree that this is very often true, but not always
true. In the cases where it is true (most cases) it certainly does restore
their well-being and full range of future opportunities. In those few other
cases this may not be true, most often because the woman is suffering from a
mental illness, or is confused about her pregnancy, or in the case where she
wanted to continue the pregnancy but felt cornered into the abortion due to
personal circumstances or being coerced into the abortion by significant
others such as her boyfriend/parents. This doesn't happen too often but it
does happen. If the woman decided to abort the pregnancy of her own
volition, well, all bets are off, she will (in almost all cases) feel
relieved and will not regret her decision.
I wish I could say that your comment above is completely and utterly true,
but, unfortunately, because abortion is a very, very complex issue, I cannot
say this.

And since the majority of those women were able to
defer childbirth until the timing was more opportune, thus
making it far more likely that it would be into a more stable
and loving environment, ALL of society has enormously
benefitted.

Society has benefitted somewhat, in that there are less unwanted births and
therefore less children who grow up feeling unwanted. Society may have
benefitted to some extent by those unwanted children not being born in the
first place.
However, not all ill-timed pregnancies result in unwanted children.
But ultimately a woman makes a decision about her body, not for the benefit
of society, but for the benefit of herself. Any benefits conferred to
society would be a mere coincidence of affording women the right to control
what happens to their bodies and lives.
A woman should never abort for the sake of others's wellbeing, or for the
sake of society's wellbeing, or for the sake of her boyfriend's or parents'
wellbeing, but for HER wellbeing. That's what the right of abortion is all
about.

regret her decision.

And reliable studies CONSISTENTLY verify all of the above.

I wish I could say that your comment above is completely
and utterly true, but, unfortunately, because abortion is a very,
very complex issue, I cannot say this.

I have often made the same points you just did. I was just
keeping the post simple, since what I said applies to all but a
tiny percentage of cases... of the sort you just descibed.

And since the majority of those women were able to
defer childbirth until the timing was more opportune, thus
making it far more likely that it would be into a more stable
and loving environment, ALL of society has enormously
benefitted.

Society has benefitted somewhat, in that there are less
unwanted births and therefore less children who grow up
feeling unwanted. Society may have benefitted to some extent
by those unwanted children not being born in the first place.

AND, no doubt, by the substantial numbers of more-wanted
children that were born as a reault of pregnancies deferred until
circumstances had improved. MILLIONS of them.

However, not all ill-timed pregnancies result in unwanted
children.

Of course not. But abortion stands ready as the remedy for
all women who choose not to take that risk.

But ultimately a woman makes a decision about her body,
not for the benefit of society, but for the benefit of herself.

WHICH probably benefits society, too, ultimately, in most cases.

Any benefits conferred to society would be a mere coinci-
dence of affording women the right to control what happens to
their bodies and lives.

That, AND by causing a higher percentage of the children that are
born to be ones that are wanted. And ones that are born into more
stable environments.

A woman should never abort for the sake of others's well-being,
or for the sake of society's well-being, or for the sake of her boy-
friend's or parents' wellbeing, but for HER wellbeing. That's what
the right of abortion is all about.

Precisely!!!
