the Bible teaches that Jesus had 4 step-brother's and at least 2
step-sisters....
" Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of
James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? Are not His sisters here with
us?" And they took offense at Him. " Mr 6:3 ( NASB)
such a plainly written verse can not be construed to mean any other
relationship to the Lord Jesus except that of blood. we know this
since the context of Mark 6:1-4 speaks to the astonishment of Jesus'
hearers questioning among themselves concerning the brilliance of His
teaching...
they could not associate this mere carpenter of common folk with no
apparent education who " was teaching them as one having authority,
and not as the scribes." Mar 1:22
since the context explains that Jesus was in His home town at this
event it is assured his neighbors knew His family well and by name.
and since Jesus was the local wood-worker brought up in the trade of
Joseph they undoubtedly have seen Jesus toil in the sun with soiled
clothes and sweat on His brow.
this is the apparent offense they took at Him... someone of such
refined speech and brilliance of doctrine without formal education
working down the dirt road as a gritty blue collar tradesman didn't
fit their picture.

the objections to Jesus having step-brother's and step-sister's
centers around the position held by those seeking to raise Mary to
Divinity.
the early Papists... early, means before they ever formed as a
denomination with a supreme leader pronouncing all such heresy to be
truth... held that Mary was a virgin all her life.
but, for her and Joseph to be married and not have children would be
contrary to God's decree to " be fruitful and multiply "... "
" Behold, children are a gift of the LORD; The fruit of the womb is a
reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of
one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them "
Psa 127:3-5

it must be noted that those who've espoused the position of the
continued virginity of Mary are Ascetic's... a practice of strict
self-denial as a measure of personal and especially spiritual
discipline. the early pillars of Catholicism practiced asceticism and
some are noted for masochism as a means to spiritual wellness.
today, these shelter themselves from society just as in days of old.
these do not preach the gospel of salvation and are dumbfounded by it.
it's no wonder that those who practice such extremes want to see Mary
and Joseph in the same light... childless and barren as they. so
they bring these ideas with them as they pervert the Scriptures.
