HOW CHRIST-LIKE AM I TO BE?
To Read: Nehemiah 1-3
To Know:
³Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your
father and mother¹ (this is the first commandment with a promise),¹ that it
may be well with you and that you may live long on the earth.¹²
(Eph. 6:1-3)
What does it mean to be a Christ-like son or daughter? What did being a
child mean for Jesus? In his pre-incarnate state Christ exercised all
authority in heaven and on earth. Isaiah writes, ³In the year that King
Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and
his train filled the temple.² (6:1) The prophet experienced a theophany or
divine appearance. The signs Jesus did reveal that he was the one Isaiah
saw. ³Isaiah said this because he saw his glory and spoke of him.² (Jn.
12:41) In Jesus Christ the Lord himself became the son of a human mother and
father. Do we know how God in his human form behaved toward his earthly
parents? Yes. He obeyed his parents after the flesh. ³And he (Jesus) went
down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his
mother kept all these things in her heart.² (Lk. 2: 51) Christ-like kids
must obey their parents if they intend to obey God.
To Answer:
How much value do we put on eternal life? Is it worth yielding up our lives
to Christ in this present day and age?
Are we going through the motions or do we will the will of God?
Who is really teaching us how to live?
