How Many Of Each Kind Was On The Ark? |
I have a problem I wish to see resolved. But first I will clarify my
source of information for you all.
I have a copy of the Catholic Bible that was printed by The Catholic
Press Inc of Chicago, Illinois in 1950.
The Old Testament is in the Douay-Challoner Text.
In Genesis 6:19-20 it mentions that there should be one male and one
female of each kind taken into the ark.
In Genesis 7:2-3 it says that there should be seven males and seven
females of the clean and two males and two females of the unclean taken
into the ark.
And then in Genesis 7:15 its states two males and two females of each
kind should be taken into the ark.
Can someone please explain how these apparent discrepancies can be
resolved?

The answer is in 7:2. He was to bring seven sets of every clean
animal, and one set of unclean animals. We know from the law, which
came later, that people were to eat the clean, but not the unclean
animals, and also that the clean animals were used for sacrifice.
This may be why God preserved larger quantities of the clean animals.

No animals. The story was based on and even older story of a flood (Epic of
Gilgamish). There never was an Ark.

There were two writers of the flood story and when they were edited
into one, both stories were included. The first writer, scholars call
"J", said there were to be seven pairs of clean animals because he had
Noah sacrifice some of them after the water receeded. The second
writer,"P" for priestly, said there was only one pair of each whether
clean or unclean, because there was no priest to make a sacrifice.
Incidently, neither of these writers was Moses!
