Unfinished Business
How the scriptures are finished
To Read: Psalm 37-39
To Know:
".of which I became a minister according to the divine office which was
given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known,." (Col.1:25)
When the Pilgrims sailed away from Leyden, Holland to Plymouth,
Massachusetts, their pastor John Robinson promised those brave souls that
more light and truth would break forth from God's Holy word. Nearly four
centuries later leaders of their church have twisted Robinson's words to
promote immoral sexual behavior. Robinson was promising folk who had lived
under a king that their Lord would shed light on how they could raise up
leaders from among themselves, once in Massachusetts. Those 17th century
Christians were indeed guided by God when they organized their church on
these hostile shores. Never would the Pilgrim pastor have believed that his
words would be tortured to support same sex sex.
In Paul's day God had yet more to say to us. Now the scriptures are
finished. When the apostle John received Revelation, it was the last book of
the Bible written. Revelation ends the Bible by saying, "I warn every one
who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if any one adds to them,
God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if any one takes
away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his
share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this
book." (Rev.22:18,19) Although God is finished giving his revelation to us,
he is not finished shining light on his revelation in order that we may
understand how to put his truth into practice.
To Study:
C.S.Lewis learned from George MacDonald. Getting to Know Jesus is a book
from which we can each learn how to develop a closer walk with God.
