How words have become cheap

³by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, that
through these you may escape from the corruption that is in the world
because of passion, and become partakers of the divine nature.² (2Pet.1: 4)
Our family rented a summerhouse on the Turkish coast fifty miles north of
the ruins of ancient Ephesus. We decided to visit the ruins on a Monday and
therefore the Saturday before we set out to secure the services of a minibus
to take us there and back. The minibuses operated from a town twenty-five
miles north of where we lived. With a handshake one of the drivers agreed to
pick us up along the roadside Monday morning and take us to Ephesus. With
only the handshake to seal the contract we waited on the side of the road
and at the agreed time the bus appeared on the horizon. The covenant sealed
by our handshake proved to be as good as gold.
Godıs word is golden. Covenant promises administrate the kingdom of God. The
Lord promised Abram family, fortune, and fruitfulness. It all came to pass.
Abram, who became Abraham, is known to this day. Everyone whose faith is in
Jesus Christ is his spiritual child. Each believer inherits the riches
promised to him, which is eternal life. The day will dawn when men and women
who owe their salvation to the grace of Abrahamıs God will inherit the
earth. Unquestionably, Godıs promises are precious and very great.
To Ask:
Father, words have become cheap in our time. Everyone uses words to tempt us
and to twist our understanding of the world and ourselves. Grant us faith
that in the Bible we have a trustworthy word directly from you.
