HUMAN CHIP IMPLANTS GROWING
----------------October 14, 2004
---------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------The VeriChip
OCTOBER 2004; In July of 2004 Mexico's Attorney General Rafael
Maccedo de la Concha had a RFID computer chip
implanted in his arm for the purpose of tracking and monitoring his
location.. The main reason for this chip implant was that
Mexico is suffering from the highest rate of kidnappings in the world.
Not only was Mexico's Attorney General inserted with
this RFID chip implant, but 160 members of Mexico's selected staff
members were as well. The price of each implant cost
$150 and the government hopes it will curb the astronomical abductions
in Mexico. From 1992 through 2002, an estimated
15,000 people were victims of kidnap abductions accompanied by the
high rise of crime and criminal corruption within the
nation's police force. These chip implants, which where first being
used as tracking devices for animals, were used by pet
owners to track their cat or dog, if their pet disappeared.. This same
chip is attracting allot of attention as a tool for personal
security and identification. It is estimated that over 7,000 Verichips
have been sold and many of them were implanted in human
beings. Mexico's Missing Children Charity is proposing chip implants
for the nation's youth to track abducted children. The
VeriChip Corporation is a subsidiary of Applied Digital (Nasdaq:
ADSX), markets a complete line of Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) Devices that can be used in a variety of
functions that include security, financial, emergency identification,
and other applications.
VeriChip, the company that makes radio frequency identification RFID
tags for humans, has moved one step closer to getting
its technology into hospitals The Federal Drug Administration issued
a ruling that essentially begins a final review process that
will determine whether hospitals can use RFID systems to identify
patients and permit relevant hospital staff to access medical
records, said Angela Fulcher, vice president of marketing and sales at
VeriChip. VeriChip sells it's 11 millimeter RFID tags
which can be implanted in the fatty tissue below the right tricep of a
human being and has sold thousands of tags for identifying
animals such as household pets and livestock. Each month these chips
help reunite 6,000 lost dogs and cats with their owners.
This technology is also used to keep tabs on all cattle that share
feed, so their meat can be tracked if there's a renewed
outbreak of mad cow disease. Chipping humans, it seems, is the
inevitable next step. VeriChip is working on an implant that
will contain a Global Positioning System. Such a device would allow an
individual with a scanner to pinpoint someone's position
on the globe. The idea for employing the tags to identify humans came
after the horror of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the
World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Richard Seelig, vice president
of medical applications at Applied, observed on TV
how firemen were writing their badge numbers on their arm with a pen
so they could be identified in the event of a disaster and
this is reportedly on how The VeriChip was born. The chip is a basic
computer ID tag. When a person whom is embedded
with a chip passes near a scanner, the dormant chip simply wakes up
and issues an ID number. The administrator of the
security systems and databases determines how the information is used.
A person has to stand within a few feet of a scanner for
the tag to wake up. Thus, the RFID tags are capable of following
someone's every step.
The VeriChip miniaturized Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Device
is the core of all VeriChip applications. About the
size of a grain of rice, each VeriChip contains a unique verification
number, which can be used to access a subscriber supplied
data base providing the individual's personal related information. And
unlike conventional forms of identification, VeriChip
cannot be lost, stolen, misplaced or counterfeited. Once implanted
just under the skin, via a quick outpatient procedure ( much
like getting a shot ), the VeriChip can be scanned when necessary with
a proprietary VeriChip scanner. A small amount of
Radio Frequency Energy passes from the scanner energizing the dormant
VeriChip, which then emits a radio frequency signal
transmitting the individuals unique verification number. The VeriChip
Subscriber Number then provides instant access to the
Global VeriChip Subscriber Registry through a secure, password
protected computer data base. This data base is maintained
by GVS Registry Operations Centers located in Riverside, California
and Owings, Maryland. In any case, human chip implants
on a global scale are just a few years away. As Mexico is
contemplating chip implant for it's nation's youth to help track them
in
case of abduction, the recent September & October beheadings of three
individuals by terrorist in Bagdad, the latest one being
a British citizen, were so horrific in their brutality and then were
posted on Islamic Web Site. The global governments of the
earth must be thinking that if these three murdered hostages had been
implanted with a form of RFID technology, these three
people would have been found before their deaths. This is no doubt a
true scenario and it's a valid argument to impose chip
implants on a nations citizens in the same of safety and national
security. VeriChip is also looking for big banks and credit card
firms interested in offering RFID e-wallets. To learn more about
VeriChip visit their web site at www.4verichip.com . Big
Brother would have it no other way and George Orwell's 1984 novel may
now be classified as non-fiction literature.
-------------------US Corporations Align with Big Brother
OCTOBER 2004; The government is increasingly using corporations to do
its surveillance work, allowing it to get around
restrictions that protect the privacy and civil liberties of
Americans, according to a report released by the American Civil
Liberties Union. These companies that have information on the US
population are increasingly giving or selling data to the
government to augment its surveillance capabilities and help it track
the activities of people. The current laws that restrict
government data collection don't apply to private industry. This
enables the government to bypass restrictions on domestic
surveillance. Congress needs to close such loopholes as this exchange
of information is already spiraling out of hand. These
loopholes would shock Americans if they really knew the extent of the
practices that are now common in both industry and
government. Industry and government know how outraged the American
citizen would be so they have a strong incentive which
is not to publicize these acts of selling and the buying personal
information. Their are other numerous government projects like
this that are proceeding in secret.
The ACLU released the Surveillance Industrial Complex report in
conjunction with a new web site designed to educate the
public about how information collected from them is being used.
Government agencies obtain data from the private sector by
purchasing the data, by obtaining a court order or simply by asking
for it. Corporations freely share information with
government agencies because they don't want to appear to be
unpatriotic, and hope to obtain future lucrative Homeland
Security contracts with the government. Companies that do not comply
are in danger of increased government scrutiny of their
business practices or being attacked by federal agencies as The
Internal Revenue Service, or The Environmental Protection
Agency. In short, the Godfather metaphor of, " Make them a offer they
can't refuse." is the bottom line.
Corporations aren't the only ones giving private data to the
government. In 2002, the Professional Association of Diving
Instructors voluntarily gave the FBI the names and addresses of about
2 million people who had studied scuba diving in
previous years. And a 2002 survey found that nearly 200 colleges and
universities gave the FBI information about students.
Most of these institutions provided the information voluntarily
without having received a subpoena. Collaborative surveillance
between government and the private sector is not new. For three
decades during the Cold War, for example, telegraph
companies like Western Union, RCA Global and International Telephone
and Telegraph gave the National Security Agency, or
NSA, all cables that went to or from the United States. Operation
Shamrock, which ran from 1945 to 1975, helped the NSA
compile 75,000 files on individuals and organizations, many of them
involved in peace movements and civil disobedience.
The increasing amount of electronic data that is collected and stored,
along with developments in software technology, make it
easy for the government to sort through mounds of data quickly to
profile individuals through their connections and activities.
Although the Privacy Act of 1974 prohibits the government from keeping
dossiers on Americans unless they are the specific
target of an investigation, the government circumvents this
legislation by asking or demanding the private sector for data
collection and information. Corporations are not subject to
congressional oversight or Freedom of Information Act requests,
which would expose the monitoring government activities and exposing
abuses. The government is increasingly turning to
private companies, which are not subject to the law, and buying or
compelling the transfer of private data that it could not
collect itself.. Internet giant Google compiles the data it collects
from users surfing the web and was nominated for the Big
Brother award in 2003.
Walter Cronkite, in his Preface to the paperback edition of 1984
published by The New American Library, mentioned how
George Orwell wrote his novel 1984 as an essay on power, how it is
acquired and maintained, and how those who seek it or
seek to keep it tend to sacrifice anything and everything in its name.
The real purpose of such legislation as The Patriot Act is
government control and power over it's citizens. Knowing that the
government seeks more control over us should not surprise
you, for the government is an entity that now has undisputed power to
monitor and track it's citizens from their birth to their
death.
