"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep." Joh 10:11 Paticular Redemption |
Probably the most hated doctrine of all is that labeled ' Limited
Atonement / Particular Redemption.' it is the strong meat of the Word
separating the immature believer from the mature as well as separating
the elect from the non-elect. yet, it can be easily shown from
Scripture that both the Old Testament and New Testament point out that
God has mercy on some and the rest, He hardens. Ro. 9:18
Jesus Christ Himself taught Limited Atonement/ Particular Redemption
to His apostles ( and therefore to us ) when He said... "I am the
good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep "
Jo. 10:11 ff
it's apparent that all of mankind are not counted among His sheep
since many will go to hell. the Universalist hopes in a salvation
offered on a take it or leave it basis... which makes God subservient
to man and not omnipotent nor Sovereign Lord.
Jesus goes on to say that since He lays down His life for the sheep
that others who are not His sheep do not believe because they are not
those for whom He lays down His life...
" But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I
said to you. " Joh. 10:26
the Universalist / Evangelical who falsely teaches the unbeliever that
Christ died for everyone overlooks the words of the One who makes the
distinction between the sheep and the non sheep...
" I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You
have given Me, for they are Yours." Jo.17:9
and those that are given Him were chosen, apart from good works,
before He created the world...
" He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we
should be holy and without blame before Him in love,
having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself,
according to the good pleasure of His will,
to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us
accepted in the Beloved." Eph. 1:4-6 ff
( notice who accepts who )
redemption was particular. it is effectual only for the believer.
and according to Eph. 1:4-6 all who would believe have been chosen
according to the good pleasure of Gods will apart from any good in the
chosen one prompting God to elect him.
particular redemption is the cause for Noah and his family finding
favor with God while the rest of humanity was accounted as the objects
of the wrath of God and were thus destroyed.
particular redemption is the cause for Israel finding favor with God
while the Egyptians found only the wrath of God.
particular redemption is the cause of some hearing the message of the
gospel while others in the same crowd find it to be foolishness...
" and as many as were appointed to eternal life, believed. " Acts
13:48
Peter had limited Atonement in mind when he wrote saying...
" The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count
slackness, but is long suffering toward us, not willing that any
should perish but that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9
the ' us ' Peter is referring to is ' us ' believers, ' us ' chosen
ones... Peter is writing to ' those who have received like precious
faith as ' us '. he is not writing to the non-elect, to unbelievers
since...
" the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God,
for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they
are spiritually discerned." 1 Cor. 2:14
God is not willing that any ( of us ) should perish but that all
( of us ) should come to repentance.
the only way to make 2 Pe. 3:9 teach universal atonement is to admit
that Christ died for all those whom God wanted to save, but couldn't.
this would mean of course that God is not omnipotent... that Christ
failed at Calvary since more have gone on to perdition than have been
saved from it.
in the doctrine of limited atonement as taught by Christ Himself and
the Apostles, God's work of salvation was complete before the world
began. that He will lose none. that all that the Father gave Him
shall come to Him.
there is no provision for the rest. these will get justice... " For
the LORD loves justice, And does not forsake His saints; They are
preserved forever, But the descendants of the wicked
shall be cut off. " Ps.37:8 ... ( a limited atonement verse.)
( the ' decendants of the wicked ' are those in league with Satan,
their god )
limited atonement... particular redemption is taught in John 3:16...
ask these questions of the verse... ' who is it who will not perish
but have everlasting life ' ? ... those who believe in Christ.
who is it then who are included in the word ' world ' ? For God so
loved the ' world ' ?... answer...those who believe in Christ. the
word ' world '... ' cosmos ' means ' men out of every tribe and nation
but not all tribes and nations as a whole ' since not all trust in
Christ.
( the Bible word ' world '... ' cosmos ' is the same word used 7
different ways in the writings of the Apostle John. )
the term ' loved by God ' is never used in reference to those who are
perishing... for to them the gospel is foolishness. 1 Cor. 1:18
God hates the wicked... Ps. 5:5 the wicked are in a sexual embrace
with the devil... 1 Jo. 5:19 since they are of their father the devil
and want to do his desires... Jo. 8:44
Christ did not pay the penalty for their sins otherwise they would be
regenerate believers. of what value is a pardon that doesn't pardon...
a redemption that doesn't redeem ?
He does not lose any who were given Him by the
Father.
it is the social gospel which says ' God loves everybody '. God does
not love the wicked.... God hates the wicked ( Ps 5:5 ) God is angry
with the wicked everyday ( Ps. 7:11 )
in every preaching of the gospel of Christ in Spirit and in Truth
when and where God is willing to show mercy, all who are chosen to
believe, will believe, since ' as many as were appointed to eternal
life, believed ' Acts 13:48...
" all that the Father gives Me shall come to Me " Joh : 6:37
' believing ' is God's work, not mans Joh. 6:29 those who believe
can not say therefore that they ' made a decision for Christ ' and
thus are born from above... this is being born from below... where man
is.
" salvation is of the Lord " Ps. 3:8
************************************************
" believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved "
Acts 16:31
" and as many as had been appointed to eternal life, believed."
Acts 13:48
