Object: Intelligent design teaching ban
from our BBC correspondent:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4545822.stm
A court in the US has ruled against the teaching of "intelligent
design" alongside Darwin's theory of evolution.
A group of parents in the Pennsylvania town of Dover had taken the
school board to court for demanding biology classes not teach evolution
as fact.
The authorities wanted to introduce the idea that Earth's life was too
complicated to have evolved on its own.
Judge John Jones ruled the school board had violated the constitutional
ban on teaching religion in public schools.
The 11 parents who brought the case argued that teaching intelligent
design (ID) was effectively teaching creationism, which is banned.
And quite f** right too. That's one thing the US has done that's right
for a change.

The shop windows are sprayed with 'artificial snow' (s'okay big man - the

It's absurd enough in a northern Europe winter but mid-summer in the

Anti+truths may prove the story of Creation True.=A9
With the current move to remove the theory of 'intelligent design'
from schools, I would put forth the 'thesis' that part of the two
stories of Genesis may be proven true through the discovery of
'anti-truths'. What is an anti+truth ?
Before you read on, be aware that the current definitions of
'truth' and 'lie' are incomplete, due to the expansion of the
definition of 'half-truth' to include truths that are part of the
truth that deceive. There are some 6 or so new paradigms concerning
half-truths, including literal half of the truth statements that create
deceptive lie. We will for this argument concern ourselves with a
statement that is true, but is a minor truth, or part of a greater
truth; referred to as 'anti-truths'.
An anti+truth is a truth that lies, it is a truth, that is part of a
greater truth, a truth deceives that polarizes. It is part of the
whole truth, like looking at one side of the coin, and failing to see
the other sides; a coin has three sides, not two.
The Bible and the story of Genesis contains two main stories. The
first part deals with how God created the universe, a difficult thing
to prove. However, the book of Genesis also contains another story
about the Garden of Eden, and the story of how "Adam and Eve" was
deceived by the devil, through 'original sin'. Through the
discovery of 'anti-truths', I would suggest that this is how the
'original sin' entered human philosophy and has remained with us
until today.
The lack of insight into the negative side to truth, or
"anti+truths" is what I suggest may be the original "sin" of
programming that was passed down to us from Adam and Eve and the story
of the Garden of Eden.
The metaphoric 'tree of knowledge' may represent the tree of
truths, however, mankind has been deceived, as were Adam and Eve to
believe that they would be like God to know The Truth. The fruit of
this tree, truths can lie, absolute true truths, can deceive when they
are parts of the greater truth.
Truth is relative to time and space. Truth has a duality factor, it, in
reference to 'truths' (not to be confused with The Truth) are
absolute and relative. Different truths do not have conflict with The
Truth, merely different relative views of the situation.
A better model of the negative side to truth, can be highlighted by the
scientific model of LIGHT, that is Light can be refracted to form
different colors, each distinct and different, yet each part of the
whole colorless color of LIGHT. Perhaps the hidden message of Jesus
Christ.
I would suggest that if we can prove the part of the story of Genesis
true, through the expanded and more correct definition of
'half-truth' then I would suggest that proving one of the
unbelievable stories in Genesis true, would make it more probable that
the other part of Genesis is also true; God created the Universe.
Merry Christmas !

===>It is a kind of fertilizer:
BOVINE EXCREMENT. -- L.
I.D. is just a
"religious alternative masquerading as a scientific theory"
"even that minimal statement amounted to an endorsement of religion,
the judge concluded, because it caused students to doubt the theory of
evolution without scientific justification and presented them with a religious
alternative masquerading as a scientific theory.
The case was most notable for its searching inquiry into whether
intelligent design could be considered science. The answer, after a six-
week trial that included hours of expert testimony, was a resounding no.
The judge found that intelligent design violated the centuries-old ground
rules of science by invoking supernatural causation and by making
assertions that could not be tested or proved wrong. Moreover, intelligent
design has not gained acceptance in the scientific community, has not been
supported by peer-reviewed research, and has not generated a research
and testing program of its own. The core argument for intelligent design -
the supposedly irreducible complexity of key biological systems -
has clear theological overtones. As long ago as the 13th century, St.
Thomas Aquinas argued that because nature is complex, it must have
a designer.
The religious thrust behind Dover's policy was unmistakable. The board
members who pushed the policy through had repeatedly expressed religious
reasons for opposing evolution, though they tried to dissemble during the trial.
Judge Jones charged that the two ringleaders lied in depositions to hide the
fact that they had raised money at a church to buy copies of an intelligent
design textbook for the school library. He also found that board members
were strikingly ignorant about intelligent design and that several individuals
had lied time and again to hide their religious motivations for backing the
concept. Their contention that they had a secular purpose - to improve \
science education and encourage critical thinking - was declared a sham."

"Kristi L. Bowman, a law professor at Drake University in Des Moines,
said that technically the judge's ruling was legally binding only in part of
Pennsylvania and that no other courts in the country must follow it.
"That aside," Professor Bowman said, "this is such a thorough,
well-researched opinion that covers all possible bases in terms of the
legal arguments that intelligent design advocates present, that I think
any school board or state board of education thinking about adopting
an intelligent design policy should think twice."
Professor Bowman attended part of the Dover trial and expects her
article on intelligent design to be in The Harvard Journal of Law and
Public Policy.
The legal fees incurred may be "an even stronger cautionary signal to
school districts around the country than the actual decision," Professor
Bowman said.
The Dover school district is now liable for the legal fees incurred by the
plaintiffs - which plaintiffs lawyers say could exceed $1 million."

I have.
Inside steel pipes next to metal with a surface temperature of 155C.
It had to be that hot as a pre-heat for the welders.
We were supposed to work in that for ten minutes at a stretch with all the
layers of fireproof gear, face-masks, safety hat (!) etc.
I did one shift of that and got myself transferred to the fab shops - ****
that.
One guy died of heatstroke a few weeks later - prompting the infamous
'orange juice strike' where the newspapers said we were out on strike for
free ornage juice and most people seemed to believe it.
We just wanted the welding process slowed down so the surface temperature
could be reduced to 105 C so as no-one else would die - perfectly possible
from an engineering stance but it would have cost the company extra money.

Try working in 165 degree F.

I have.
Inside steel pipes next to metal with a surface temperature of 155C.

EEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

It had to be that hot as a pre-heat for the welders.
We were supposed to work in that for ten minutes at a stretch with all the
layers of fireproof gear, face-masks, safety hat (!) etc.
I did one shift of that and got myself transferred to the fab shops - ****
that.

Indeed.

That hit them right in their god.

I used to work with a company that did nuclear plant maintenance. I
worked with a fellow who was rather famous in that circle. Among other
things he got his entire year's allowed radiation dosage in about 5
minutes. He was lowered down into something or other reached out and
turned a bolt. That was it and he was not allowed back on a nuclear
plant in the whole country for a year. 165F sounds much better.

Yes it does. Radiation's some 'slippery' stuff.
When a sub is in dry dock and they've got to do a resin change (not
sure what that is) they've got to crack access through the hull to the
reactor. All but dry dock duty personnel are evacuated from the dry
dock. Sub crews sit tight, iirc.
Even in dry dock with standard sandblasting and painting of the sub
there's an area on each side of the sub which is cordoned off with the
radiation warning tape.

You can keep that job!

I was probably down there a couple hours total. I disconnected
everything and brought the panel mounted guts back to the electric
shop. It was a very interesting problem plus the system was miswired.
I figure it was the burned carbon track that glowed red that was the
deal breaker.
The problem was the motor controller would only be off while the off
button was pressed. Something, probably the carbon track, was keeping
the M Auxillary contacts closed.
The next day the E6 and I were working with it, me at the controller
he at an auxillary station, utilizing headphones to determine what
